Golden Rome is nice themed game with 5 reels and 40 pay lines. It is powered by Multicommerce Game Studio software provider. I tried this game for the first time, some time ago at next casino. I like to play sometimes games which have theme about old Rome or Egypt – so yes, basically about history.

Even if this game offer you 40 different paylines to win; you will see only one feature here – free games. The feature starts when you get 3 or more coliseum symbols in any position on the reels. 12, 20 or 40 free games are awarded with 3, 4 or 5 symbols respectively. During free games you can get multipliers too. Wins obtained in a free game are multiplied by the number of wild symbols obtained in that free game.

I played this game only for a short time, but I still managed to triggered free games at least three times. I got 12 free spins every time, because I had only 3 scatter symbols. The winnings there were not so good at all, payout were really small so after third feature I decided to closed this game.

Almost in every feature I had the same winnings which were around x5 total bet. I think this is really bad, I never expected so low payout. During main game the payouts were the same. I never got any decent win from it, most of the time I got winnings around amount of my bet.

I am sure I will not play this game again. I lost some money on it and I do not like it, because of all small payouts. Maybe it can provide some big winnings, but I will stick away from it. I will rate it with 5 stars here, at Askgamblers.

The nice thing about the Julius Caesar symbol is that it acts as wild and appears stacked in some reels (2, 3 and 4). I’ve seen it appear in 1, 2 and 3 symbols. Not sure if it can appear stacked covering up to 3 positions on every reel though. It does show up quite frequently.

The Coliseum symbol is the scatter, and you need 3, 4 or 5 of those symbols to respectively trigger 12, 20 or 40 free spins. I managed to trigger this feature a couple of times but my experience with it was very appalling.

I won only 8x and 13x bet size. Since I wasn’t very successful during the base game either, I decided to quit and try my luck on some other slot instead.

The paytable isn't really constructed all too well. For instance, the best paying symbol is that of the Roman Lady. If you get five of a kind, you'll only win 500 coins which is equal to 12.5x bet. So this definitely is a low variance game with repeated small wins, but how to win big on this game? Well I don't have an answer to that.

Seems to me that's impossible unless you get the Roman Lady (which is stacked) aligning real well on reels 1 and 5 and get stacked wild symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4.

In the 2000s, on the wing of popularity of the blockbuster movie named Gladiator, the bigger and not so known software developers released their own versions of the ancient, golden age of unnamed heroes and historical Rome themed game. I always loved playing these games, I just love history especially this segment when the prosperous empire was so controversial, two-faced but also grandiose and had civilization opening new vistas at the same time.

I like its visual appearance a lot. At Leander, the designers did their utmost for this game and created an almost perfect, eye-catching end product with crystal clear images and very good animations (this pertains mostly when a Wild arrives on a winning line). I only miss the absolutely no existing background music. Without it, it becomes a little monotone down the stretch. I can’t even imagine how they could issue this slot without this important segment, especially nowadays when it’s among the minimum requirements.

Golden Rome uses some very Roman symbolic icons like Coliseum, gold coin, amphora. The Caesar like character is the Wild and only appears on the middle reel but no add any multipliers to the wins. It also can act as an expanding wild during normal games, and many times does it. The Roman Lady is so realistic that the first time I saw her I was sure she’s Angelina Jolie. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone from the creators’ team would be a big Jolie fan.

When I was trying out the game and examined the paytable I thought there were some mistakes because the best paying ‘Jolie’ pays only x500!!! if there’s enough of it. I knew it’s a 40-payline game and has many ways to win and the Wild comes into view so many times, but I thought it has still very poor payout. But playing with it for some time despite all of this now I think there’s a lot of potential left in this game. I had some nice returns even without the free spins.
This feature has 12, 20, 40 extra spins depending on how many Coliseum icons triggered it. Normally, it has no multiplier but Wild can manifold the wins if it involved.
The game has no other bonus or gambling game features.

I said again this machine can be profitable but many Wild are required it. Anyway, I like this Rome slot and more I play the more I enjoy it and it’s very true despite its apparent shortcomings. I recommend it to try, I would recommend it but somehow very few casinos offer this game to play.
