Premier League Betting

sportsbooks

The Premier League has practically become synonymous with football. It was officially established in 1992 when top-tier clubs, First Division clubs, broke away from the English Football League after being part of it since 1888.

Since it’s one of the most popular leagues in the world because of its quality, it’s no wonder that Premier League betting attracts so many punters around the world.

Why Should You Bet on the Premier League?

The Premier League (commonly also referred to as the English Premier League or the EPL) viewership is counted in billions worldwide (reports indicate over four billion), with many people eagerly anticipating the season to start. Premier League clubs have been in the top of the European club competitions for decades now, thus proving the quality of football played.

The popularity of the Premier League is the reason why (probably) all sportsbooks that offer football betting include it in their offering. Premier League betting offers are vast and extend across numerous types of bets and betting markets (outright, pre-match and in-play) to cater to all betting enthusiasts.

Apart from the attractive offer, bettors choose to bet on the PL because they know a great deal about it, having followed it throughout the seasons. Also, many tipsters give their opinions about the matches in each round, providing bettors with ideas on how to place their bets.

English Premier League Rules

The Premier League season 2024/25 starts on 16 August 2024, and the final matchday is 25 May 2025. Each team will play 38 matches, with 33 rounds played on weekends, four during the week, and one holiday round.

That is a difference in the upcoming season when compared to the previous years when the Premier League was the only one with matches played on Boxing Day and 1 January. Boxing Day remains a matchday for the Premier League clubs, but the New Year’s Day is omitted this time around.

Three teams that finish last are relegated to the EFL Championship. They are replaced by three teams from the same league, the top two teams, and one that wins the playoffs that teams ranked in positions 3-6 play.

Top four teams at the end of the season qualify for the Champions League group stage, and the fifth for the Europa League (UEL) group stage. The winner of the FA Cup also gets a place in the Europa League, and if they finish the season in the top five, their place in the UEL goes to the next-highest-ranked club on the Premier League table.

Premier League Betting Markets

If you wish to start betting on the Premier League, you will have plenty of options to choose from, starting from the outright markets if the competition has not yet begun, to pre-match and in-play betting markets. Premier League market offer is among the best in the sports betting industry, but the offer will depend on the bookmaker you choose.

Pre-match betting includes numerous markets, starting from the match winner, or the basic 1X2 betting, both teams to score, total goals in the match, half-time/full-time, correct score, cards markets, corners, over/under markets, and many others. There are also many available handicap markets.

In-play betting is very popular for Premier League matches because of the league dynamics and the quality of football played. You can check the in-play markets once they become available for the match you wish to bet on.

You can check out the AskGamblers Live Scores page to keep track of the latest results, standings and statistics.

How Does Premier League Handicap Betting Work?

Handicap markets for the Premier League work pretty much the same as for any other football competition, and they depend on the bookmaker that offers them. Premier League handicap betting means you are betting on match results or on a team to win by a certain margin or score enough goals so you can win your bet.

For example, if the handicap on Team 1 is -1, that means that Team 1 needs to win by a two-goal margin for you to win the bet. Team 1 is a favourite in this match, so Team 2 was given a head start with a +1 handicap. There is also a draw handicap that the bookmaker sets.

Premier League Relegation Betting

As we have already mentioned, three teams that finish last at the end of each season get relegated to the EFL Championship league, and their places are filled by three promoted teams.

Premier League relegation betting starts with outright betting on teams you predict could get relegated even before the competition begins. Relegation odds are available throughout the season, and they reflect the current standing on the Premier League table.

Premier League Outright Betting

Sportsbooks provide outright markets and odds up front, weeks, and sometimes even months before the competition begins. Premier League outright betting includes a few markets, starting from predicting a winner for the season.

Since the clubs that finish in the top four positions at the end of the season qualify for the Champions League, sportsbooks also provide odds for the Top 4 Finish as a part of their outright market offer. Since recently the Big 4 became the Big 6 in the Premier League, the Top 6 is also an outright market bettors can bet on with some sportsbooks.

The Relegation market is also quite popular for outright betting, with odds available for every club that plays the Premier League for the given season.

Where Can I Find Premier League Betting Specials

Premier League betting offers often don’t include many specials before the kick-off of the competition. You can find outright specials for where a player will play in the upcoming season, who will become a manager of a certain club, or which club a manager will manage next. It is typically the large Premier League betting sites that offer specials, especially outright.

When the competition is ongoing, specials can include goals scored in each match of the day, the number of corners in those matches, each team having a yellow card, and so on. One of the specials during the season could also be to bet on which manager will get sacked first.

How to Bet on the Premier League

If you are new to betting on Premier League but have been watching the matches and following the results for at least one season, then you have the basics for starting your betting experience. Here are some Premier League betting tips for you:

  • Use your knowledge of the league and participating clubs to decide who you wish to bet on and who you should avoid. If you are not a Premier League enthusiast but merely wish to bet on the competition, check the results and statistics before placing your bet.
  • If a team typically scores many goals in a match, consider betting on the goals markets.
  • Odds on the favourites are often low, but that can change in derbies. Check the teams' form and see if it’s worth to bet on your favourite in a derby match.
  • Claim a Premier League promotion with a sportsbook to enhance your betting experience.

It might also be a good idea to find a reliable tipster and follow them for more EPL betting tips during the season. Scores are often difficult to predict, which is what makes the Premier League interesting to watch but challenging to bet on, especially in the seasons with many title race contestants.

EPL Betting Odds

Since the Premier League is extremely popular with bookmakers and bettors alike, there is no shortage of sportsbooks that offer odds for betting on this competition all season long. That’s good news for bettors because they have plenty of options to choose from, and the sportsbooks need to stay competitive to attract new customers.

When looking for a new betting site to place your bets on the Premier League matches, our advice is to look into the EPL betting odds on multiple websites and compare them. You might notice that the odds on favourites can be quite low, so if that’s your betting strategy, you will need to shop around to find the best odds.

Of course, best odds shouldn’t be your only reason for picking one sportsbook over another, but it is an important one.

If a sportsbook consistently offers good odds and is a reliable and safe betting destination with a good choice of markets, payment methods and sports betting features, such as the Bet Builder, then it could be the right choice for you. Make sure to read our expert sportsbook reviews first before signing up with a new operator.

Premier League Betting Offers

Starting with the welcome bonuses, betting offers are designed to attract new customers or enhance the experience for loyal bettors. Bonuses for sports betting come in different shapes, such as deposit match bonuses, free bets, odds boosts, cashbacks and so on.

Bookies can offer free bets on deposit match funds for betting on the Premier League, either as the entire welcome bonus or as a part of it (for example, £30 from the £40 free bet you receive after making a qualifying bet is for betting on the EPL).

During the season, plenty of Premier League betting offers appear in the sportsbooks’ promotions sections. They may again offer small free bets to be used for betting on the Premier League weekend under certain conditions.

You might also encounter boosted odds for that week’s matchday for betting on certain markets, such as more than three goals scored in a match, or only one goal scored in a game, or for a certain player to score. Other offers could include acca insurance or acca boosts when placing an accumulator bet on the Premier League matches, early payouts, or maybe even boring draw (0:0) money-back promotions.
