Courts of Hearts is almost like a follow-up on that 3x3 grid slot from Play'n Go namely Rabbit Hole riches. However, this time they released 5 reels, with 10 payline version which is highly volatile and have a cascading feature. The paytable seems okay, but with the multipliers, I can see why it’s the way it is. As always, Play'n Go has superb graphics.
Seems like a fairy-tale theme like Alice in wonderland maybe? The symbols include hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs with other higher-paying value characters. The queen of hearts is the highest paying symbol which will award x20 your total bet if you manage to get 5 of a kind on a payline.
Now there are a few features embedded in this slot. During any given spin a rabbit hole symbol could land anywhere on the reels and trigger one of the following modifiers:
- Cat feature: An expanded wild cat will land on the reels and if it creates a winning combination, the fully stacked wild will float on other reels, for more wins.
- Caterpillar feature: He blows smokes and turns 3 – 7 spaces wild on the reels.
- Dormouse feature: a 2x2 wild symbol will land on the reels and maybe even expand horizontally to create bigger winning combinations.
The free spins feature with an unlimited multiplier can be triggered in 2 ways. You can either land 3 scatter symbols on the reels or with the help of the rabbit which can appear on any spin, where he adds scatter symbols to the reels.
The free spins feature will award 10 free spins or more, depending on the amount of scatters. For every winning combination on different paylines, the multiplier increases with no limits. The spin modifiers of the base game appear more often during free spins for chances to win even more.
This slot is fun and has some excitement apart from the low paytable and the empty base game spins, however, the spin modifiers help in some way. I like the slot but I think Play'n Go could do better these days.
Court of hearts is a game with 5 reels and 10 paylines that was released a few months back. As you can tell by the name, the game is inspired by the Alice in the Wonderland theme, the Wonderland- to be exact. And since it's from the Play'n Go game provider, I was quite interested to try it out.Â
When it comes to game design, I do like it but it's not really spectacular. But more importantly, the base game payouts are quite low. Unless you land the green symbol which adds additional features to the base game, I didn't get past 10x bet wins. And whenever the green symbol lands, it can give you either a wild reel which moves around - only if there's a win, random wilds or a wild that expands. These features can help to keep a steady balance as otherwise the payouts are low.
When it comes to the mechanic, whenever there's a win, the winning symbols cascade from the reels. That comes in handy as you need 3 scatters to trigger free spins. And from my experience, quite rarely they come in on a single spin right away, many times I've triggered free spins because of the cascading wins bringing scatters in. That, or also sometimes the rabbit can come up and give "Guaranteed Scatters" feature and add 2 scatters on the reels. I quite enjoy it and it helps landing the bonus round.Â
For 3 scatters you get 9 free spins and after every win, the multiplier increases. Every time you get a scatter, you will get 2 more free spins. In the bonus round you'll want to see as many green symbols as possible for different features to trigger and the multiplier to increase. I've had a few big wins because of the feature that gives an expanding wild- my best win was 700x bet. But it was due to only one big hit, so I'm certain it can pay much more.Â
All in all, it's quite a fun game and it has great winning potential in the bonus round. However, the base game can be quite dry and overall the slot has high volatility. With that in mind, I would recommend trying it but keeping an eye on the balance as it can be a money eater even with low stakes.
