“Oh Catrina” is a video slot manufactured by the company “Booming Games” which has a theme based on the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead, and I have to admit that this game has a very attractive design, mainly because its 3D images look very real.
However, its paytable and mainly its hit average they have been pretty disappointing from my view, and I say this mainly because of the apparent change in behavior patterns of symbols’ appearance once you are playing a round of free spins, for example, many stacked symbols of another kind and things like that.
To understand a little better effects of this observation, it is necessary to know that at the start of the round of free games you must press a stop button to randomly get one of the regular symbols becomes our special symbol for our 10 free spins, then every time our symbol appears, first it will expand through the reel and then it will form combinations with matching symbols regardless of whether they are located on adjacent reels or not.
In theory, this is an excellent feature that I have even seen previously in slots produced by other companies, but in this game, it becomes obvious the fact that our symbol drastically decreases its frequency during free spins, a frequency that seems to return to normal once our round is over.
Besides this, I think there is an irregularity in rules of this feature as skulls symbols pay for lines made from 2 of a kind during the base game, but during free games they only pay for lines of 3 or more of a kind once they have already been expanded, that in case they appear sufficient matching symbols to do so.
On the other hand, many times you have to wait eternities to gain access to a round of free games, wait that will hardly be well rewarded since my biggest win during one of these rounds amounted to a maximum of 51 times my total bet, not exaggerating when say that each of my other few rounds have given me total winnings below 2x my total bet.
Moreover, low prices of paytable don’t allow you to dream of ending up victorious only with gains achieved during the base game; in short, “Oh Catrina” has been for me a totally disappointing slot and I think the only remarkable aspect of this game is its excellent design, otherwise, I think it's a slot below the average.
