A Switch in Time is 5 reels and 20 pay-lines video slot powered by Rival software provider. The slot is inspired with the nineteenth century and symbols featured are mostly inspired with Victorian era. There is an interesting intro we advise you to watch if you want to understand the plotline. Both reels and the backdrop are dark and glossy. Before you travel in time, you should set your bet. By clicking on "+/-" you can set the coins size which ranges from 0.01 to 0.25. The number of lines can be set by clicking on "Select Lines", and by clicking on "Select Coins" you can set the number of coins per line. "Bet Max" sets the maximum bet and starts turning the reels automatically. The Wild symbol in the game is the Sand Clock and it can form its own winning combos when it occurs on an active pay-line. During base game the Wild comes with x2 multiplier. During Free Spins the Wild becomes Expanding Wild, and all wins are multiplied by 3.
The Woman symbol will activate Free Spins feature if you hit 3 or more of them anywhere on the reels. The number of spins will depend on the number of symbols you land. Three symbols will get you 12 spins and x3 multiplier, four symbols will get you 45 spins and x6 multiplier, and five symbols will get you 78 spins and x9 multiplier.
If you hit 3 or more Time Machine symbols you will trigger A Switch in Time bonus round. You will have to choose several buttons on the time machine. There aren't many good Rival games to play, the good games being the old ones, as the new games are mostly rubbish, if I may say so! This A Switch In Time is one of the good ones, if you haven't played it already, although winning from it is a totally different matter, so luck would play an important role whenever you play this game!
The game plays with the usual 20 paylines, the Free Spins games have 3 different time modes - Present, Past and Future, with 3x, 2x and 1x multipliers respectively. Why this difference in multipliers, I cannot figure out, but it certainly made a big difference in the payouts from the free spins. Needless to say, the Present mode being the best of the three modes, and the Future being the worst.
The Wild symbol, the Timer, pays a nice 6789x the line bet for getting 5 of them, pays 2x for wins in the base game, 3x for wins during the free spins, and also becoming an Expanding Wild Reel during the free spins. The Lady is a non-paying Scatter symbol, awarding either 12 free spins with a 3x multiplier, 45 free spins with a 6x multiplier, or 78 free spins with a 9x multiplier, for getting 3, 4 or 5 Scatters respectively. Very good indeed, but damn difficult to get 4 or 5 of those Scatters! In fact, I could only get 3 Scatters in all my various plays on this game!
The Time Machine is the Bonus symbol, also a non-paying symbol, and getting 3 or more of which awards a Bonus game. Nah, the payouts from these Bonus games aren't good at all - just small wins! The Time Explorer is the highest paying regular symbol, at 1895x the line bet for 5 of him, but the other symbols have much lower values of 400x down to 65x the line bet, but still making for a good paytable on the whole.
As I have said earlier on, you really need good luck to win on this game. If the free spins are playing in the Future mode, for example, the wins only have a 1x multiplier, and most of my disappointing Free Spins games were in this mode. The Past mode is slightly better, with its 2x multiplier, but I always prefer the Present mode with its 3x multiplier. However, these modes are automatically changed after each Free Spins game, so there's no chance of sticking with the Present mode all the time.
Nonetheless, A Switch In Time can be an exciting game to play, provided you don't get stuck in its dry run period. There were times when those Free Spins games paid a zero win, or almost zero, and more than half the time, the payouts were less than 20x the total bet. However, my best win so far is 248x, so that's a pretty decent good win, if I may say so. With better luck with the free spins, bigger wins are definitely possible, but I wouldn't really know how big the wins can be. Theoretically, getting 5 Wilds with a 3x multiplier would pay a nice 1018x total bet amount, so that's probably the best single win anyone can expect out of this game. That's still much better than what newer games nowadays can pay!
