I've been impressed with the ingenuity and originality shown in Playson's games just lately, and "Art of the Heist" sounded like a lot of fun to me! It certainly doesn't let you down when it comes to fresh ideas, and infact it took me a little while to work out what on earth was going on as after my very first spin I had a security guard appear in a video in the centre of the screen handcuffing a little guy (me, I presume) followed by a countdown in the top left corner for the next three spins and then nothing at all further happening for the next twenty spins or so.
I resisted the temptation just to look at the paytable and rules though, soldiering on until a new video showed me deactivating an alarm system and wandering into the next "room" - the second reel of the slots top row. Immediately another video played of a monster like creature knocking me right back to the start! Oh dear, I don't think I am very good at this game! Still, I persevered and eventually worked out I was collecting free spins as I progressed through the museums hallways, nicely arranged behind the spinning reels of this game, and when you finally make it to the bottom right of the screen the free spins are activated. It took a lot of spins to get this far so I was excited to see what possibilities the bonus could bring!
I started with 15 free spins and a "free spins bet" of 0.63 - an average calculated from all of my bets that had got me to the free spins. I can imagine this game will soon be banned by most casinos for bonus play because of the potential this mechanism has for abuse by those sneaky enough to try and cheat this system and I guess that's why we don't see things like this in too many games these days. Well, my total winnings were just 10.65 - less than 20x my stake and I ended up feeling a little disappointed because of that. Nevertheless I kept playing the game for a second run through of the free spins, as I noticed there were lots of additional stacked wilds added to the reels and I was sure a good win would be possible. Sadly though although I had a lot of fun playing this game I've come to the conclusion this one just isn't a big payer. It's worth a try for sure, but I doubt I'll be coming back to it anytime soon.
