Sumatran Storm is a video slot game from IGT that is powered with the Multiway Xtra feature. I play this game from time to time and I have to say that I am not very impressed. Do not get me wrong, the game play is okay and the wins are regular too. It is possible to win from left to right as well as from right to left.

Sumatran Storm is a 5 reels and there are 720 pay lines. I really like this game mainly because it is so easy to activate the features here. The last time I played the game it took me a while to activate the free spins but it was worth it since I won around 150 euros.

There is only one special feature in the Sumatran Storm video slot game and that is the free spins round. To activate the feature you need at least 5 tiger`s eye symbols on consecutive reels. So initially you get 5 free spins for 5 scatters but if there is one more scatter you get 5 free spins more for that one symbol. You can get up to 60 free spins like this, just to start with and it is also possible to retrigger them and get up to 150 in total. The highest amount that I have won during the free spins was 130 euros in only 20 spins. During my last session I could not activate the free spins again but in general the session was okay. I did not win much but at least I enjoyed the game play. Most of the spins were empty and I only managed to land couple five of a kind wins only.

I would recommend the Sumatran Storm video slot game to anyone. This turned out to be a very interesting slot and a really generous one at times.

Judging by its name, Sumatran Storm is a slot inspired in Sumatra, the world's largest island, although personally I think the theme of this slot does not have much symbolic content related to the island, except perhaps for the famous Sumatran tiger that today is considered endangered.

IGT uses in Sumatran Storm the same feature Multiway Xtra with 720 ways to win used in the "Miss Red" slot. The format of this game is not like traditional 5-reels slots, but it possesses a diamond-like shape so that each reel has a different number of cells, 3, 4, 5, 4, and 3 from left to right, conceived thus very likely to take advantage of its property Multiway Xtra, that allows winnings from left to right and right to left, pays for matching symbols appear on adjacent columns to the line formed regardless of their location and finally, symbols of the same type appearing on the same columns where it was formed a payline to multiply the value of the respective gain. This feature is very interesting as it, but from my point of view it does not work well by itself, but it must be supported by stacked wilds or some other feature to appreciate its power. In Sumatran Storm we see the emergence of wilds stacked on reel 3, the longest of all reels, but the truth is it seems the Multiway Xtra feature here has not the ability to surprise any player, very different situation to what happens in Miss Red slot, where additional to Multiway Xtra, IGT uses another special feature called "End2End" with the ability to expand its two main symbols horizontally, thereby maximizing the power of MX.

Another special feature is the free spins round, which I almost forgot to mention, possibly because of the low incidence in my results since they are only 5 free spins and I could never make a mildly interesting profit with them.

After playing several times this slot in demo mode, I have come to the personal conclusion that Sumatran Storm is not a very strong slot, mainly because of low winnings average, which in my case led me each time to total collapse of my demo balance. Alternatively I prefer to play Miss Red, also created by IGT, similar but stronger slot.
