Britain’s gambling scene shows no signs of slowing down. The 2024 survey reveals nearly half of adults placed a bet in the past month, or 28% if we skip the lottery players.
Gambling is still mostly about having a good time and the excitement of a big win for most Brits. The survey revealed that 85% of gamblers are in it for the chance to snag life-changing money, while 72% just love the entertainment.
But beneath the excitement, the report highlights a steady 2.7% of adults showing signs of problem gambling - a figure that remains unchanged from 2023.
“Know Your Risk, Know Your Limits,” Warns the Commission
Gambling Commission Chief Executive Andrew Rhodes calls the survey a key building block for shaping smarter safeguards. He says:
This year’s findings deepen our understanding of gambling consequences.
He’s urging online casinos to use this evidence to protect players and prevent harm.
With 19,714 respondents across Britain, this is no small flutter - it’s a national snapshot of how fun, fortune, and risk collide in the world of wagering.
And the stakes are only getting higher. With new rules rolling out at the end of October, including mandatory deposit limit prompts and tighter financial risk checks, the UK’s gambling scene is moving towards a safer, more responsible future.
Whether you're just casually spinning or you've been punting for ages, this year could be when Britain really gets the hang of balancing the fun with the facts.
