If you're an online player from the UK, soon you might not be allowed to stake more than £5 per bet, according to a Bloomberg report which suggested that the government is currently mulling the capped stake idea.
Addressing Addiction Concerns
As the UK draws closer to finishing the ongoing review of 17-year-old gambling legislation, reports have emerged that online casino operators may suffer a blow in the form of a limit on stakes. Apparently, the stake being considered is within the range of £2-£5, the source familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.
The UK government is considering limiting stakes in online casinos to £2-£5, according to a media report.
Another thing that might be coming operators' way is a cap on mandatory affordability checks.
The proposal was put on hold in late may 2021, after parts of the industry slammed it as "prohibition by another name." Initially, the monthly threshold stood at £100 per household.
Removing Risky Features
Operators won't be the only ones being dealt a blow: software providers may be asked to remove any features that raise the level of risk for customers, like quick games where players can lose money faster, the person said.
Meanwhile, the source said that the government is considering plans to relax regulations for brick-and-mortar venues and allow them to host up to 80 gaming machines, up from the 20 they are allowed to install right now.
