The slot is very exciting and very high-end, just like most of NetEnt’s creations. At first I felt slightly uncomfortable with the violent/bloody theme. But when I got used to it, I became fascinated how genius this game once again is. The special base game features - Hot Spot and Shield Wall - seem to come up quite often, and most times they provide you with a smooth win. Ofc the most exciting is to get to the Raid Spins, which has happened to me a couple of times as well. Will certainly look up to playing this game in the future as well.

As I said, at first I was slightly bothered with the violence/blood. After all, it’s just a game, based on a TV series as well as real life history, so it’s understandable.

Vikings is probably one of the currently most popular slots from Netent that was released a year ago if I remember correctly. I remember that some players were really anticipated for this release while it wasn't the case for me- the game is inspired by the popular show Vikings but me not being familiar with the show, it didn't really leave an impression on me. However, when I saw it for the first time I have to admit it is a very nice looking game. Technically it has 5 reels and 40 paylines, minimum bet is 20 cents per spin and there's a base game feature and a bonus round.

Since this game has been released, I've played it numerous times. I have to say this game is quite volatile and I've had several sessions with it when I haven't had a single win over 30x bet and 0 bonus rounds. I've also had a few decent sessions with my highest win on the game being 350x bet win.

There are several things to look forward to in this game. First of all, whenever one of the main characters land stacked on the middle reel, you will get a payout called "Scatters pay" and all the main symbols on this spin will be turned into the middle reel symbol. It usually gives me a win up to 10x bet but it appears frequently. Then another one that can appear both on base game and free spins is Shield feature- random shields will be added to the screen and turn into one of the main characters. If this feature appears in bonus round, it can help getting a big win.

The free spins themselves have a lot of potential, but being quite volatile game, it can also end up with nearly a 0 win. For 3 bonus symbols you get 7 free spins, there's no multiplier for them but instead of 3 rows you're playing with more active rows. If at least one of the main characters land in one of the highlighted middle reels, all the other character symbols will turn. That's when mega wins happen, I had this happen to me once and that's when I had my 350x bet win. If you don't manage to get any of the scatter symbols in the middle reels, it's difficult to get a high win on free spins themselves.

Overall I do like this game and I definitely will keep playing it- design is really nicely done, the features have incredible payout potential and the gameplay is exciting. However, I do think that it's one of the games you need to keep an eye out on your balance as in a bad mood it can take and take without decent turnover.

This slot is absolutely amazing ! Yes the payouts maybe quite rubbish but it’ll all be worth it once you get the bonus round. I was betting £1.60 and won £3780 on the bonus round I mean wow. It’s good to be able to have play a low stake and still have a chance of winning big. 10/10 from me. Also no, it’s not just luck as I have played this slot many of times and have always had an amazing outcome with the bonus round. This is definitely my number one slot of all time and I have played many.

Can’t think of anything that I Dislike really. The payouts can be quite small but aren’t greedy when it comes to the bonus round so can’t have it all I guess.

Vikings is one of the newest slots by Netent and may I add, one of the best releases for the past few ones. One that pays very well and is among one of the best of slots out there. People classify this slot as medium variance, however I would say this slot is highly volatile, as in BTG volatile lol. Highly volatile slots are so unlikely for Netent lately.

Visually, Vikings is amazing. Based on the very popular television series, this slot has everything you are looking for. The Vikings are the highest paying symbol and pays equally as well as A, K, Q, J and 10 royals. There’s also the Vikings ‘V’ symbol which is the most rewarding giving you 7 times your stake for 7 across a payline. Pay table sounds low does it? Well you would be surprise what over 78000 ways can do for you during free spins and it can come in often as well.

Vikings comes with a Hotspot feature. This is triggered when a fully stacked Viking symbol lands fully in a Hotspot on reel 3. All other Viking symbols on the reels transform into that symbol. A scatter pay is then awarded and treat the win as pay anywhere on the reels, similar like book of dead.

Vikings also comes with a shield wall feature which can be triggered in both the base game and Raid Spins feature. The Shield Wall appears as a cluster of mystery symbols in a random area on the reels. These transform into a randomly chosen symbol and wins are awarded according to scatter pays.

Finally, Vikings offers you the Raid Spins feature which is triggered when you get 3 Raid Spins symbols on the reels. You will then play on a 7-reel, 5 row, 78,125 ways to win reel set. You will be rewarded with 7 raid spins with 3 hotspots on reels 3, 4 and 5. If a fully stacked Viking symbol lands fully in 1 or more of the Hotspots, all other Viking symbols outside and inside the hotspots transform into the same Viking symbol that triggered the Hotspot feature. This allows for lots of the same Viking symbol to appear on the reels for huge wins of up to 10,000 times your stake on each raid spin, how cool is that?

Remember highly volatile, the base game can dish out enormous wins continuously or you can just have dead spins and take like 500 or more spins to trigger the free spins feature. I love this game as much as I hate it.

What do you get when you combine a few of different NetEnt games into one? You get NetEnt's latest game offering, the Vikings. It’s a game that plays with 5 reels at first, but changing into 7 reels for the free spins, paying initially with 243 ways then into a whopping 78,125 ways, albeit paying like Aloha cluster Pays - the more same symbols in a winning cluster, the bigger the win. Sounds very interesting right? Well, it may be so for most players, but it actually didn’t even stir up my emotions! Why? Simply because 7-reels and clusters-paying games do not attract me at all!

This Vikings game actually looks ordinary, with nothing outstanding, and the overall presentation isn’t that striking or vibrant either. To me, everything looks rather dull, so how to get excited? I thought the paytable would at least show something exciting, but nope, it only made things worse! Imagine getting 7 symbols on a winning payline and getting paid only 28 credits, or 20 credits for 5 of them? Oh gees, that is simply ridiculous to my eyes and senses! The only way to get any decent good wins would be during the free spins, with its 78,125 ways, and hope to get as many same symbols as possible – otherwise, the payouts would simply be chicken feed!

Here’s another important thing in the paytable that nobody would see, except for people like me. The maximum possible win is getting 27 same symbols during the free spins, for a whopping 200,000 credits. However, the game would be playing with 7 reels and 5 rows, with 35 possible symbols, so, it actually means that you can never get all same symbols! But never mind, getting all of that 27 same symbols would almost be impossible anyway!

As usual, new games tend to have interesting new features, although not really new but borrowed from another game. In Vikings, it’s called the Shield Wall Feature, which is randomly activated, whereby up to 15 symbols can be turned into one same symbol. Yeah, you’ve seen this kind of feature in action before, in many other games, but under some other feature name. That HotSpot Feature is also not anything new and it's borrowed from the game Hotline.

My question would be 'is there anything that I like' about this Vikings game? Sadly, no, there's none! But to be fair, the game can produce some decent wins no doubt, at the right times, but I wouldn't ever count on it happening regularly. All other similar games from NetEnt have been nothing but disappointing for me, so I'm not putting my hopes on Vikings either, even though I managed to get one damn lucky early win on my first ever play on this game. Even after seeing all those newer recent games by various game providers, I'd still rather be spending my time and money on my favourite oldie games, which I do know for sure can pay big and fairly regularly too!
