When I first came across this Pearl Lagoon game from Play’nGo, I got attracted to it. Why? Simply because it reminded me of my former favourite game Dolphin Reef from Playtech. There’s the dolphin, the turtle, the seahorse, and the fish, and I’m thinking, is this a cloned game of Dolphin Reef? After browsing through Pearl Lagoon’s paytable, only then I realised that is it not. What surprised me even further was that the paytable is more similar to another one of Playtech’s game, Safari Heat, also a former favourite of mine. Well, it looks like this Pearl Lagoon game is actually a combination of Dolphin Reef and Safari Heat.

I’m also wondering why the heck I haven’t been playing much of this game all this while, when it should also have been one of my favourite games like the other two! The paytable is good - 5 Wilds paying 250x the total bet, 5 Scatters paying 200x the total bet, and the free spins game offers 15 free spins with a 3x multiplier. Retriggering is also possible, but unlike unlimited retriggers in Safari Heat, Pearl Lagoon can only retrigger up to 60 free spins, but I guess this should be good enough.

Playing this Pearl Lagoon game got me confused at first, but only for a short while. Why? Because the Dolphin Wild symbol doesn’t expand into a full Wild Reel as in Dolphin Reef, but wins with the Dolphin Wild gets double payment as in Safari Heat. Anyway, this shouldn’t pose any confusion to other players, because I don’t think there are many other fanatics of the two Playtech games as I am, hehehe.

After playing Pearl Lagoon for a few times, I now know why this game couldn’t stick with me for long. To put it very briefly and very simply, Pearl Lagoon pays like Dolphin Reef does, despite having better winning potentials as in Safari Heat. Nevertheless, even those two Playtech games can no longer pay as good as they used to, so I’m not complaining much about Pearl Lagoon. Nowadays, it is very hard to find games that can pay good, because even the good old oldies have now been adulterated! Argh!

"Pearl Lagoon" is the marine themed version of Play 'n GO's golf themed slot "Gold Trophy II", meaning that these two games are exactly the same in terms of gameplay, paytable and even musical theme and sound effects. I quite like "Gold Trophy II", so by all logic I like "Pearl Lagoon" as well.

This slot requires a bit of patience to unlock its full potential. For instance, the bonus is quite volatile and can be hard to trigger, making it not always rewarding to play "Pearl...". I've had anything from around 10x to 250x in the free spins, usually playing 10 out of 20 possible lines (you can select anything from 1-20 lines on this slot).

However, "Pearl LagoonI" is capable of very nice line hits in the base game along the way, with 150x being the max. for a full line of either of the two top symbols with wilds. During the free spins pays are tripled, and you can retrigger the initial 15 free spins up to 3 times for a total of 60 spins. I've managed to retrigger a couple of times, with 45 spins being my best result.

Granted, compaired to newer Play 'n GO outings like "Reactoonz", "Moon Princess" and "Rise of Olympus", "Pearl Lagoon" may seem pretty old fashioned, but I still like the overall potential of this slot, especially the fact that you can adjust the number of played lines to your liking. As mentioned, I prefer to play this slot on 10 or sometimes even 5 out of 20 possible lines.

DISLIKED

As mentioned, free spins can be hard to trigger on this one. And while I'm at nitpicking: I would like the retrigger in same free spins to be unlimited for higher potential, e.g. like the free spins in "Gold King" from same provider.

Pearl lagoon is a very old slot from Play n Go which has 5 reels and 20 pay lines. If you like the slot Myth from Play 'N Go then you will love this slot, however I feel this slot is much nicer and have a smoother feel to it when spinning the reels.

The graphics is a bit out dated for me and not so modern, as if you would compare it to imperial opera or gold king, but it has a nice water theme set in the ocean with all kinds of different sea animals which are the symbols in this slot. The dolphin act as wild and multiplies your win x2 whenever it substitute in a winning combination.

The pay table is very decent since it’s a very old slot, where the top paid symbol pays you 1000 coins for 5 of kind, which makes me wonder what would wild pay for 5 of kind, since it is not presented in the pay table. Maybe the same as the highest paying symbol or that combination is not programmed to take place.

Landing 3 shell scatters on the reels pat x5 your bet and gives you 15 free spins with a x3 multiplier. If you land 4 scatters it pays x25 and 5 scatters pays x200 your stake. You can retrigger the feature as much as you like, not sure if there is a limit and all scatter wins and normal wins are x3. If a wild dolphin substitute in a win, then you win is multiplied x6 and that’s where the big wins for this slot comes from.

I simply like this slot and it bonus often quickly, however do not expect big wins session all the times. It pays on average x30 – x60 your bet stake during bonus rounds. I have hit many base game hits with 5 of kind and wild substituting. My biggest win in this slot was just a little over x300 and I often get a good place in the battle of the slots on Videoslots free roll.
