Thunderkick has been in this gaming market for about 2 years now, yet they have a very limited number of games so far. Ever since coming online as a fresh competitor, Thunderkick has remained silent and quite unproductive for many months, coming up with only one or two new games within a period of several months. Until recently that is. The year 2016 is seeing much more activity from this game provider, with already several new games released, but hardly any one of them making a bit hit as yet. I am a great fan of Thunderkick games, Fruit Warp made me as such, but there hasn't been any new game that comes even close to it as yet. Personally, I think Thunderkick is being too timid by staying in their 'comfort zone', never daring to take any high risks, never daring to come up with a good high-paying game, or one that can keep any player's interest going. Thunderkick is 'moving too cautiously'. Isn't it time to 'start living dangerously'? Yeah, I agree with Nick Jonas when he sang those words in his song 'Eat Cake By The Ocean'.
Frog Grog is one of these latest releases from Thunderkick. The graphics are simple and nice, appearing differently from the usual, a typical Thunderkick trademark which I do like, but sad to say, it still isn't perfect. The active icons are a little bit too small, as compared to the win multipliers to the left of the play area, which are much too big unnecessarily. And there's too much of the background scenario too, which aren't doing much. The Play area should have been the top priority and be given more viewing space than it currently is.
The Frog is the Wild symbol, appearing first in orange, then turning blue after clearing some symbols, but is an absolutely dumb Wild symbol which doesn't pay for itself, doesn't double any wins, doesn't become stacked, doesn't expand, but only to substitute for all other symbols. What a waste of Wilds! And what a waste of winning chances for players too! Why the designers have to do this, I just cannot figure out. But then again, most of their games are like that, hence they cannot be big hits. When orange in colour, and after winning symbols have been paid for, the frog would burst out its flame to clear all symbols on the same row and column, letting new symbols drop into the vacated positions, for new winning chances. It's called 'Dropping Symbols', as opposed to 'Rolling Reels', because the reels do not roll down in this game, only new symbols would drop down. Some may like this, some may not, but I personally feel that rolling reels have more advantages.
There are no Scatter symbol and there are no Bonus symbol either. The only special feature in the game is the Mystery Game feature, randomly activated with any non-paying spin. All symbols would be removed from the play area, getting paid for each of them, except for the Frog, Flower and Moth symbols, which would remain. New symbols would then drop down into the empty positions and any new wins are then paid. Wins with up to 7x multiplier are possible. The other symbols in the game have very low values, which I don't like at all. The highest paying symbol is the Moth, paying only 10x the total bet for 5 of them. The Flower pays 6x, the Heart pays 3.5x, and the rest paying from 3x down to 2x the total bet for 5 of each kind. Sheesh! With such a very low paytable, coupled with the 23 fixed paylines, no big wins seem possible at all!
I just couldn't believe that Frog Grog would be so disappointing! I gave this game many good long trials in the fun mode, over many days, to familiarise myself with it, before actually playing with my real money. The results were just as disappointing in the fun mode as it was in the real mode. The best win I could achieve was only 47x the bet amount, which is very low indeed, and I dare not even say how much higher it can pay out! Like I've said earlier on, "wake up Thunderkick...stop moving cautiously...start living dangerously...if you are ever going to make a good big hit with any game!"
