Diablo 13 had a facelift, with slightly better graphics than before, but Fandango's appear to be exactly the same as I remember it, except for the new buttons and whatnots. The game screen is still like before, the symbols and paytable unchanged. But the most important thing remains uncertain, until I have given it a good play, and that is, does the game play and pay the same as before? Let's find out now. The Sheriff's Badge is the Wild symbol. It's a dumb symbol, sad to say, because it doesn't pay for itself, doesn't double any wins, doesn't become stack and doesn't expand either. It only substitutes for other symbols except for the Scatter symbol. The Scatter symbol, the Dynamites, is also another dumb symbol like the Wild symbol. Getting 3, 4 or 5 of them triggers 10, 20 or 40 free spins without any multiplier, but more free spins can be retriggered. Dumb Wilds and Scatters are typical of most Top Game games from yesteryear, which did not matter much to me then, but now it does matter a lot.
The Wanted Sign is the Bonus symbol, the third dumb symbol in the game, appearing only on reels 2, 3 and 4, triggering the Bonus game when all 3 of them appears on any active payline. In the Bonus game, first pick 1 of the 3 boxes to earn the number of shots, from 2 to 4 shots, then pick the items to shoot to win cash prizes. A simple bonus game that can pay from 9 coins up to 825 coins. Certainly not a lot by today's standards. As for the symbol, the Pistols pay 10,000x, the Red Indian pays 800x, the Boots pay 500x, the Cactus pays 200x, the Bullets Chamber pays 100x, the Hat pays 80x, the Horseshoe pays 60x and the Bullets pay 50x, all per line bet for 5 of each kind. In those days, this paytable was considered good, but today, it can only be a low paytable.
Nonetheless, as I've said before, a low paytable can still provide a good game play, and Fandango's is one of these games. Playing the game gets more interesting when the Free Spins and Bonus games start kicking in, paying out small to fairly decent amounts most of the time, but unexpected good wins can come by suddenly, either in the base game or in the feature game. My best score was achieved many years ago, getting 5 Pistols that paid about $2500. 5 Pistols pay 666x the total bet amount. My latest play on Fandango's gave payouts of 5x up to 67x my bet amount, but it gave me an extended play time, which was satisfactory enough for me, even though I didn't win anything in the end. Yep, this Fandango's is still the good old Fandango's. It still plays and pays the same as before, and this I like.
