Top Gun is a very likeable movie, a good movie even, but Playtech’s game version of Top Gun is more like a rotten gun! It plays with a nice 243 ways to win, starts with a minimum bet of 25 cents per spin, but everything else leaves much to be desired. If you cannot get a win on many lines, then the win cannot be good, because the best possible wins would require the effectiveness of all that 243 ways. The win values of all the symbols alone simply cannot produce any sizeable big win. The absence of any win multiplier makes it worse.

The logo Top Gun is the Wild symbol, paying only 1500 coins, or 60x the staked amount, for a 5-of-a-kind win. 4 or less would only pay for the substituted regular symbol win. This Wild symbol also doesn’t double any wins, so that doesn’t better any wins. The Fighter Plane is the Scatter symbol, appearing only on reels 1, 3 and 5, and to trigger 8 free spins without any multiplier. 8 free spins without any win multiplier simply cannot give any good wins! Retriggering of more free spins should be possible, but I’ve never gotten one so far, after several years of playing Top Gun occasionally.

The only interesting feature to look out for in Top Gun is the Dogfight Wilds. It can be randomly triggered during base game play, or be randomly triggered during the free spins game play. Up to 15 Wild symbols can be shot onto the reels, but that’s more like a dream coming true. It’s usually between 1 to 4, maybe 5, Wilds at any one time. Not only that, those random Wilds may not even create any win! Hard to get those Dogfight feature game, with no win multipliers at all, yet it can pay a zero win...now that is rubbish!

Those Dogfight Wilds seem to appear more often during base game play than during a free spins feature game. Getting 3 of those Fighter Plane scatter symbols usually takes more than 500 spins, even over 1000 spins at times, yet the resulting win from the 8 free spins hardly ever come out satisfactorily. Always very low and very poor wins, mostly under 40x, including a few zero wins! Wins in the base game are usually much bigger and better.

This Top Gun game is apparently not on its right footings. Its gameplay sucks, its payouts suck, and even its randomly activated Dogfight Wilds feature sucks. So, very sadly, there’s hardly anything good or worthwhile from this game!

Top Gun is a video slot game from Playtech that is based on one of my favourite classic movies. I know that the movie is a bit cheesy but it has received a cult status. I cannot say the same about this game too. The only thing that was up to my taste in this slot was the soundtrack which reminded me of the movie and that was it.

This game has plenty things to offer. The Dogfight Wilds and the Danger Zone Free Spins are its special features. The game play is made much more interesting with the Dogfight wilds. This feature can add up to 15 wilds on the reels. In my case I got wilds on the whole second reel but no win at all. The feature is triggered randomly, but I never won anything from it.

To activate the free spins you need 3 scatter symbols anywhere on the first, third and the fifth reel. You get initially 8 free spins with a chance to get more if you land more scatter symbols during the feature. I was always ending up with more than 10 free spins but I never won anything higher than 30 x bet. The Dogfight wilds can be triggered during the free spins round which shows that the game does have a potential to pay huge, but this did not happen while I was playing.

I found this game to be action packed, since you are hoping for the random feature to be triggered, but in my case it was not very profitable. I was always getting wilds in the wrong places. I do believe that this game has lots to offer, even if you are from the younger generation and have not even heard of the movie this game was based on, you can still play it. I would recommend this slot, because I cannot say it is a bad game since I have played it only once.

I had around 4 to 5 wilds on the reels. I like this feature because it appears quite often and the winnings could be quite decent.

You can also get free spins feature at Top Gun slot. During free spins dogfight wilds can appear which could raise your winnings. I triggered only once free spins and from them I won around x50 my bet. I think this feature is set ok, but I miss some multipliers here. The winnings could be higher if there would be some random multipliers up to x5 or something like that.

Otherwise I think it is a good game. During main game the payouts were good while I was playing. I had a few good winnings when wild dogfight feature appears. Maybe the pay out for wild symbols could be set higher. I like wilds and here all five symbols pay out at x1500 bet. After all I played this game only for a short time and I made some profit from it. I do not know if I will play it again in the future. I will rate Top Gun slot with 8 out of 10 possible stars here at AskGamblers.
