Once upon a time not too long ago, BetSoft released a game entitled ‘Greedy Goblins’. That game was not too bad, but it wasn’t that good either. Recently, whilst browsing over BetSoft list of games, I came upon Once Upon A Time, most probably another one of the oldie games which I haven’t played before, and I quickly saw its similarities with Greedy Goblins, which I later found out that it is indeed a clone of Greedy Goblins.

After looking through the paytable, I must say that I wasn’t impressed at all! All the symbols have very low win values, and there aren’t any Wild symbols either, unless a Green Dragon symbol lands on top of reel 3, turning it into a full Wild Reel for that spin. Nope, it doesn’t multiply wins and it doesn’t substitute for all symbols either. On top of that, the Bonus symbols don’t pay as well, but getting 3 of the Tree House Scatter symbols would pay only 2x the bet amount, plus awarding 5 or 10 free spins, again without any win multipliers, sheesh!

There are other feature games available no doubt, like ‘How She Loved The Knight’, ‘Goblin’s Treasure Bonus Round’, ‘Save The Princess Bonus Round’, and ‘Greedy Goblins Click Me’, all paying instant cash wins, but needless to say, all could only pay measly miserable wins! The free spins can be retriggered by getting 3 more Tree House Scatter symbols, but getting only 5 extra free spins each time certainly couldn’t do much good!

I’ve only played this Once Upon A Time game one time, and already I couldn’t like anything about any of the features. From what I could see, and from what I had gotten from each of the feature games, all payouts were absolutely ridiculously low – getting any 10x win was a rarity enough, and the best win that I could get was a horrible 17x win! Sorry BetSoft, but this is yet one more game to be avoided!

"Once Upon a Time" it is one of those slots that one truly enjoys to play, since it has a variety of special features and most of them provide great prizes, and certainly Betsoft do not seem to have sacrificed the rates of its paytable for somehow subsidizing these awards, it is possible that the continued appearance of special symbols sacrifice a little the hitting average during the base game but nothing else.

Game’s theme is simply attractive, I've always liked games with epic topics, with castles and knights, Betsoft additionally adds some romance and fantasy including princesses, dragons and goblins on it, which incidentally is quite appropriate because fits perfectly to the name of the game. About the special features I have to say it's very hard to pick one as the favorite, because except perhaps the feature of the kiss between the princess and the knight, I managed to get good prizes on all of them and even some of them were excellent and announced by machine as big wins, the only feature that I could not trigger was the round of free spins, the bigger prizes I could achieving happened in the features "Click Me" and "Save the Princess Bonus Round" and the features of the kiss and ClickMe were the most common triggering, in short, all the time I had the feeling of being in front of a slot that, in addition to being an incredibly fun game, had reasonable payouts for combinations made during the base game and good prizes for the features, and one of the things I liked most of these latter is that you never finish the round with zero prize, you always stay satisfied and ready to continue spinning the reels. Many new slots of this company are not as generous as "Once Upon a Time" and I think this slot is one of the most representative Betsoft slots that has even become one of the most popular games from this provider since its release in 2013 until today, this according to ratings and reviews that we may read on forums and websites related to the world of gambling and I join personally to this view. This is a video slot not to be missed, one of the best works made by “Betsoft Gaming” in my opinion.

What I like about this slot "Once upon a time " is that it is full of features. These features are so frequent that I could not keep track of the number of spins that I have played. Probably somewhere between 100 and 150 spins, but I fail to tell precisely. I do not even know to say exactly how much I lost or I won here. Playing with a minimum bet of 5 cents/line, 30 paylines, at first I lost about 25 Euro but now after 100 spins I have an extra of about the same: 25.This is just the reason for which this slot is excellent: here you never know what will come. You can lose pretty well , or you can have a massive win and you can enter quite often one of the 4-5 different features of this game.

For example, the slot has a Bonus game where the Goblins enter the castle and steal things, each bringing a payout. This bonus game is triggered very often, once about 10-15 normal spins. There is another Bonus game where the knight will fight the dragon to save the princess. Again more than 20-30 spins will not go until you get this bonus. There are also Free spins (minimum 5) , which are offered by 3 „Goblin Tree House“ symbols. If during Free spins there is another „Goblin Tree House“ symbol on the reels one extra free spin will be added.And since 2 types of Bonus game and the Free Spins round are not enough, there is in additional payout every time the princess and the knight are on adjacent reels and are kissing (this feature is named „How She loved the Knight“).

A dragon found on an active wild reel (do not ask me because I could not figure out how a reel becomes active wild) expands into an entire wild reel. Therefore the slot is great!As I said, at 5 cents/payline and 1.5 Euro total bet, I expected to have major losseshere, but I was very happy to have an extra 25 Euro at the final and be awarded 7-8 Bonus games, 2 Free spins rounds, 2 Expanding Wilds and about 4 Knight + Princess Kisses in about 100-150 normal spins. Even the symbols lined up relatively easily and I had 2-3 times 5 of the same kind. Very nice done!
