At first sight, I didn't notice this game was a 5-reels and 243-paylines video slot. It looked like 20 or 25 paylines machine to me. But then I realized I was mistaken. Let's check this festive slot paytable before we make up our minds whether we like and will play it or not. The Wild symbol is 'Paw Logo' and it appears only on reels 2 and 4, not so good though. Another bad point goes for its payout. The Wild doesn't pay for itself, doesn't double, expand and does nothing more than substituting for all symbols except for the Scatter. Well, firstly, the overall look of Gung Pow doesn't strike interestingly in any way. The graphics look mediocre, it doesn't look attractive enough, and for those who have seen the paytable, it just doesn't grab players to play the game at all. My first glance at the paytable only gave me a "hmm". Even with 243 ways to win, Gung Pow doesn't have the explosiveness to excite big-win hunters. Casual players may enjoy the game, with its fairly frequent small wins of 5-of-a-kinds, but trying to get wins of 100x the total bet, or more, seems like a damn tough task to me. I've spinned at least 1000 spins, yet not seeing a 70x win at all. The best I got was 69x from the free spins, and that sucks. I simply hate it when out of 15 free spins, only 4 or 5 spins actually paid out something!

Do you think this is a cool feature? I don't think so.

The free spins feature should be more fun. I miss here stacked wilds on all reels. But you can get them only on reel 2 and 4. And this is also the reason why i don't like this game. If wilds were everywhere, it could provide bigger winnings and i like to play this kind of games. I don't like Gung Pow so much, i played it only once or maybe twice. The payouts during free spins should be better, maybe at higher multiplier too and with better feature. With some additional feature mode or something like that.

Well, Gung Pow Slot is probably strangest slot release together with lucky firecracker, which Microgaming ever made. I am of course probably do not know something, and I am not work at Microgaming, but really, what about they think when release two absolutely same game with only one difference - look of symbols and sounds. Wilds here work with the same way, only on reels 2 and 4, and for 243 lines game it is disappointing, I think most players will agree with me - when you make slot with a lot of lines, be sure to add there some good feature with wilds, like stacked, expanding, or probably something even better. But no, there are just regular wilds, on only two reels. Pointless to be honest, reminds me octopus slot, where wilds also on reels 2 and 4, but there this two wilds trigger feature!

That's it about the game features.

Firs time I tried it I got so frustrated, I had 30€ balance and I played with the minimum bets and lost all balance just super fast, without any free spins game. Then after some time I was ready to face this game again. I made a 40€ deposit in one of my favorite Microgaming casinos, placed the minimum bets which are 0.25€ per spin. Gung Pow slot is a very pleasant game from Microgaming and though we don’t experience any specialty in its appearance but it is still attractive and impressive. The game chose for its theme ‘Asian fireworks’ and in my opinion every single symbol is very characteristic, well-drawn and perfectly fit to each other. The graphics are great, the color usage is very decent and I really like how the entire interface look like and how its beauty is hidden in simplicity. I think overall this is a very compact and well-structured product so we have got really nothing to complain about here and all we can deal with is just to enjoy the displaying work of Microgaming.

Initially, I imagined 20 or 25 paylines for this slot but the developer thought it other way and make this slot a ‘243-ways-to-win’ type game and though it doesn’t offer too much feature but the game still has some good qualities. The best paying symbol pays up to 3000 coins and generally can be said about rewarding capabilities of winning combinations that they’re quite good. I don’t really like at this game that the Wild has very limited functions and only can substitute for other symbols without multiplying the wins and sadly it only appears on the second and fourth reels. I think this main symbol should have better qualities and I don’t really understand why this icon became so powerless. It should have either win multiplying function of if it doesn’t have that at least it could pop up anywhere on the screen, not just on two specified reels.

On the other hand the only real feature the game offers to win some real big is a very great side game. Getting 3 or more Scatters on the reels means we got an entry to free spins (15 extra games) where all wins are multiplied by x3. This is the segment of the game which has real big potential (up to 90.000 coins) but without winning this high grand prize this segment most of the times are very generous and has a real great game settings. The triggering tendency of this feature is acceptable and I almost always excited when it starts because based on my experience the winning combinations there more frequently happen and it seems the Wild also like to show itself over and over. Though I have never won any worth mentioning amount there but I could collected some nice wins at my level that I could be satisfied with.

I really like at this slot that nothing’s complicated the rules, the game scheme is very simple but the game still has the ability to entertain me for extended times without being boring or one-dimensional. I started of this game with a minimum bet of 0.25$ and the slot started off pretty slot I had absolutely no decent wins in the first 15 minutes whatsoever. The couple of wins that I had were thanks to the Gung Pow symbol which is a wild symbol and its substitutes for all symbols except scatter. So I continued playing regardless of the hard start and with a hope I would hit the scatter that would have granted me 15 FS and during those FS all the winnings are multiplied by a factor of 3x and also the free spins can be re-triggered. Besides these features this slot had nothing else, so as I continued spinning I managed to land 3 scatter symbols for 15 FS and after those spins finished I came out with only 2.5$. But still regardless of this I continued playing and I was now hoping more for a five of a kind win since I saw even at minimum bet it is possible to get 100x bet win, for example on that fire works symbol. But unfortunately that didn't happen since it was really hard to get three of those symbols together not to mention five. The game also has a gamble option which makes you choose between a red and a black card therefore you can get win equal to you winning line or double that.

After many FS passed and I still couldn't manage to get a good win I just decided to quit the game before losing any more of my balance. Also the game will give pretty hard a good win so without any motivation from their part it became really dull to me pretty fast. Overall I honestly expected more out of this game and from me 6/10.

So weak that hardly deserves a mark of 6. There is nothing new, same payouts, same frequency of the wins, what to say... a total disappointment. Gung Pow is a slot about the Chinese fireworks. This is not the only game of this kind and does not bring anything new. Yes it is true, the music is beautiful (like the banjo music), and the payouts have all about the same value as playing all other standard Microgaming slots. That is, “5 tens” pay 1 Euro. In the paytable “5 fireworks majors” pay 20-30 Euro, but here in all my game I did not had these combinations. Only once in “5 smaller fireworks” gave me 5 Euros. And that was all. 30 Euro lost for about 15-25 minutes spent here is my brief description of the game. And I never have some extra money.

I was always under the impression when I played that this slot takes during the normal game to give then in the Free Spins round. And when with extreme difficulty I entered into the Free Spins (15 in number) I have finished them with just a few Euros. A disaster followed by another disaster. Yes it is said that one can win enormous in these Free Spins, but this has not happened to me. I could be wrong, there were good slots that I was wrong about them but “Pow Gun” never seemed to be extraordinary in any respect. This is very bad, not very good for Microgaming.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but every year around the month January Microgaming tends to release a video slot inspired by the Chinese New Year celebration which is in February this year I believe. It shows they cater to their Asian fans as well, and since Asians are very fond of gambling it completely makes sense business wise.

Last year they released Lucky Koi if I remember correctly, while this year the game in question is Gung Pow. Not sure what it means in Chinese, or if it means anything at all, but it made me think of fireworks.

And that’s exactly how the majority of the symbols in Gung Pow are decorated with. Lots and lots of fireworks to ring in the Chinese New Year. Personally I’m not Asian and therefore obviously don’t care much for it, except seeing some decent potential and prizes during my play.

I’ve had the chance to play this game at a bet size of 50 cents per spin. The minimum is 25 cents, which is not bad if we consider the fact that Gung Pow is a 5-reel, 243-ways-to-win type of slot. Certainly cheaper than other games of the same format.

I’ve managed to trigger the free spins feature a couple of times and one time even with five scatters. Gung Pow is one of the very few games on which I’ve achieved five scatters on. However, I was deeply disappointed with only winning 100x my bet.

Not exactly a DOA type of payout. During free spins my best win was around 75x bet size, while the base game had many smaller wins to keep the balance on a decent level. I think this game is good for clearing WR on, but like I said it’s a filler and certainly not a game with huge potential.

I will probably choose to ignore Gung Pow in the feature, despite breaking even more or less.
