Gung Pow Slot Microgaming

Gung Pow Slot is a 243-payline video slot running on the Microgaming software platform. This colourful game’s theme is Chinese New Year and its most important symbols are the Gung Pow logo, which is wild and an ancient Chinese Coin, which is the scatter. Players are welcome to try the slot on this page free of charge or select any of the Microgaming casinos from the listings to play the game for real money.

Before spinning the reels, players should adjust their bet. By clicking the “Bet” button and then +/-, players can choose their preferred coin size, ranging from 0.01 to 1, and the number of coins wagered. Clicking “Spin” initiates the game. In order to spin the reels for a preset number of times without interruption, players can press the “Auto Play” button.

The “Gamble” button enables players to increase their winnings. If their guess whether the face down card is red or black is correct, their winnings are augmented. If their guess is wrong, the sum is lost and the game ends. Players can leave the Gamble round and collect their winnings by pressing the “Collect” button.

If 3, 4 or 5 scatters appear on the reels, 15 Free Spins are triggered. During the Free Spins round, every win is tripled. Free Spins can be re-triggered.

At first sight, I didn't notice this game was a 5-reels and 243-paylines video slot. It looked like 20 or 25 paylines machine to me. But then I realized I was mistaken. This game has an oriental theme, which is a bit mystique and somehow attractive to players. This time it's about Chinese New Year and its celebration. Honestly speaking, it's not so attractive to me and I came across this slot by chance, but as always, I was willing to give any new game a try. Same thing happened with this Microgaming addition. But overall, it doesn't look so nice with its golden colors dominating.

Let's check this festive slot paytable before we make up our minds whether we like and will play it or not. The Wild symbol is 'Paw Logo' and it appears only on reels 2 and 4, not so good though. Another bad point goes for its payout. The Wild doesn't pay for itself, doesn't double, expand and does nothing more than substituting for all symbols except for the Scatter. Very often in Microgaming slots, you will see Scatters that pay 100x your total bet for 'five of a kind'. Here it's the same. Getting 3 or more Scatters will trigger 15 free spins with a 3x multiplier. The Free Spins game can be re-triggered, but to me, it seems like mission impossible. I have triggered the Free Spin game by crazy luck, yet I ended the round with empty pockets, with no decent win at all.

As for the rest of the symbols, it seems pretty low. The Rocket Fireworks symbol pay 120x, the Big Crackers 80x, the Lantern 60x, the Sparklers 30x, and the rest down to 4x, all for 5 of a kind. Now this tells me that I don't have a single reason to invest my money here. Instead of being a high variance slot, the way it pays look like a medium, if not low variance to me. And no, there is nothing which could keep my attention.

There are more and more Oriental orientated games appearing now, not necessarily oriental customs or people themed, but including animals and environmental themes. Not that I don't like it at all, I do, just that I haven't found one yet that sticks to me like a glue. Maybe I've been looking in the wrong places, I haven't a clue, but wherever I've been and gone through, none has yet to come true. As for Gung Pow...oh wow. I love fireworks and firecrackers. Used to play them a lot when it was still legal to buy and play them. Not anymore. A written permission from the Police is now required beforehand, but that's out of everyday people's hand. Too much hassle, too troublesome, but even the authorities know how to close their eyes on certain festival ceremonies, and that's a good thing.

The logo 'Gung Pow' is the Wild symbol, appearing only on reels 2 and 4. It is yet another true blue dumb Wild symbol, loved so much by Microgaming, but certainly not by players. The Wild doesn't pay, doesn't double wins, doesn't move, shift or expand, and only substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter symbol. The ancient Chinese Coin is the Scatter symbol, paying 100x the total bet for 5 of them, and getting 3 or more scatters award 15 free spins with all wins tripled. Free Spins games can be retriggered, but don't count too much on it. Symbols wise, the Rocket Fireworks pay 120x, The big Crackers 80x, the Lantern 60x, the Sparklers 30x, the small Firecrackers 20x and all the rest from 8x to 4x, all per total bet for 5 of each kind. A low paytable indeed.

Well, firstly, the overall look of Gung Pow doesn't strike interestingly in any way. The graphics look mediocre, it doesn't look attractive enough, and for those who have seen the paytable, it just doesn't grab players to play the game at all. My first glance at the paytable only gave me a "hmm". Even with 243 ways to win, Gung Pow doesn't have the explosiveness to excite big-win hunters. Casual players may enjoy the game, with its fairly frequent small wins of 5-of-a-kinds, but trying to get wins of 100x the total bet, or more, seems like a damn tough task to me. I've spinned at least 1000 spins, yet not seeing a 70x win at all. The best I got was 69x from the free spins, and that sucks. I simply hate it when out of 15 free spins, only 4 or 5 spins actually paid out something!

As always with most of Microgaming games, new or old, they have hardly ever impressed me at all, except for a very few games. A large number of players seem to love Microgaming games, but impressive huge-winning screenshots are hardly ever from Microgaming games. Perhaps players are being too sentimental, but not me. Realistic and regular good wins are what I'm more interested in, not empty promises of astoundingly huge wins from getting 5 Wild Reels or All-of-a-kind wins, which comes only once-in-a-lifetime anyway. Where winning from games is concerned, I'm not a dreamer. Never will be either.

Gung Pow slot is another game coming from Microgaming software. This is a 5 reel and 243 ways to win video slot. This means that the winning combinations are formed by the matching symbols on adjacent reels. I cannot say what is the theme in this slot but it might be representing some kind of a celebration since there are fireworks as one of the symbols.

The first time I tried this slot I was not happy at all. It ate all my money and I could not trigger the bonus either. I played this slot with 50 cents bets and the minimum you can play with is 25 cents. This is not so bad for a game that has 243 ways to win. This is definitely the cheapest I have seen when it comes to this kind of slots. While I was playing this game I realized that this is yet another game with no potential for any wins. Most of the wins during the base game are so low or not happening at all.

The next time I played this game it was a bit different. After just a couple of spins I triggered the bonus round and it paid me 50 euros. During the free spins round you get a lot of 5 of a kind combinations and with a x 3 multiplier I have to say that this is pretty decent. I did manage to trigger the free spins a couple of times more during my session this time, but it was nothing special. During the base game I had some small wins but they were not enough to keep my balance. After I saw that even the free spins round is nothing special I decided to leave this slot while I still had some dignity and some money on my balance. I would not recommend this slot to anyone. I tried it and I gave it a chance but the game is not paying at all.
