I want to say that I like football very much, here in my country football is a very popular sport, is played by a lot of people and I am playing it very often too! So I decided to play a slot with this kind of theme, about football and obviously about legends, that’s all about. It is a Playtech slot, so good news because I like their slots, have interesting features and usually a decent payout rate! The theme and also the name of this slot attracted me to play it, it was for the first time, didn’t played so far. I had some money left in my Ladbrokes account and I decided to spend at this slot. Only a couple of spins I made, I saw that the Wall of Fame symbol landed on the 1st reel and I decided to click the stop button. I thought that I have to catch 3 of them to trigger the bonus, but no, the bonus was triggered, I was prompted to choose 3 from a couple of football legends, I picked random, but I won only 1.6 euro. I wasn’t impressed by this bonus because is not paying much money, but it is easy to trigger so it is a good thing!

The free spins feature is harder to catch, you have to catch at least 3 Top Trumps symbols, you will be awarded 10 free spins with an extra wild that had a 4 x multiplier. Well, I managed to catch the 10 free spins only one time, it paid me 19 euro, a decent amount I could say because the bet was 0.15 euro.

I will give a 9 for the graphics and theme because I like this kind of slot, I like football and I will play it again!

Regarding the features, the bonus and the free spins are good although hard to catch, but I think that deserve a 9!

After having reviewed Microgaming's "SHOOT" video slot and Playtech's "Football Stars", it's now time to discuss Football Legends or Top Football Trumps Legends. This slot is also a Playtech production and has a similar vibe like SHOOT. I've always been a footy fan since my younger days, and I can always appreciate if gaming developers make a fine soccer slot.

I'll try to review this slot without being too biased topic wise. Unlike SHOOT this game only features 5 reels and 15 paylines. I wouldn't consider this a bad thing per se, since per spin it would cost you less money as well with only €0.15 as minimum bet. My experiences with the base game of Football Legends have been moderate, no real big wins but still plenty of smaller wins.

The symbols that are being used in the base game are dedicated to some of the greatest footballers our world has ever known, including Pele (wild), Bobby Charlton, Alfredo di Stefano, Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini and Franz Beckenbauer. But wait….hold up….

Don't you feel like something is missing? I'm not talking about Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, since this slot clearly has been made before these have been dominating. I'm talking about Argentinian legend Diego Maradona. For some the best player ever. I really feel like he can't be missing from this slot, but maybe Playtech couldn't clear the image rights. Anyway Football Legends does offer two types of second-level bonuses to keep you entertained with. The first one is the Wall of Fame bonus. This one gets triggered if you manage to get the Wall of Fame bonus symbol on reels 1 + 5. I've managed to do this countless times and saw my wins ranging from 5x to 20x bet size. During the bonus game you get presented a selection of football cards including other legends like Zidane, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, George Best and Lothar Matheus.

Still no Diego Maradona here though. You can choose 3 cards or re-shuffle and then pick. It's a bit disappointing considering the low wins this game awards. The other bonus feature is the free spins bonus, which you'll trigger if you manage to get 3 or more scatters (Top Trumps symbol) on the reels. You then get 10 free spins and can choose an additional wild which to give you a 4x multiplier.

Like Afi mentioned I do find 10 free spins a bit low as well. Nevertheless I did have some very decent wins of over 100x bet size while experiencing the free spins. I got lucky the extra wild dropped in on a few occasions multiplying my bet. Overall a very nice slot, but with so many football legends present maybe they should have created a slot with more potential.

Carrying on down the football track, we now come to Top Trumps Football Legends. Still a 15-paylines 5-reels slot game, it does not follow in the shoes of Football Stars but more like that of Football Rules, but with a slight difference. Personally, amongst these three football games, Football Legends just fall short of expectancies and end up last in my own preference rankings. So, what are the differences and what's not so good with Football Legends? Lets explore and find out.

5 legendary footballers from the past glorious era are the chosen symbols, along with the usual 10, J, Q, K and A, with Johan Cruyff of the Netherlands being the highest paying symbol of the five. The legendary greatest of all time, Pele of Brazil, is the wild symbol, paying out the usual x10,000 line bet for 5-of-a-kind. A WALL OF FAME symbol represents the bonus trigger, whereby when triggered by appearing anywhere on reels 1 and 5 simultaneously, a Wall Of Fame Bonus game is awarded. Here, you are presented with 16 symbols showing all the great footballers of the past era, each one hiding a cash prize award. Out of these 16, you only get to pick 3, but if you're lucky enough, you get an extra pick, making a total of 4 picks out of 16 symbols. This is a big disappointment indeed. In all other Playtech games where such a selective feature is awarded, the number of picks can vary from 3, 4 or 5 out of 10 symbols, depending on how many symbols had triggered off the bonus game. But here, only 3 or 4 picks out of 16 symbols are awarded, only a quarter of the total selection, so picking out the higher cash prizes becomes so much harder. What you do get after your picks is usually a total win amount that's just isn't big enough to be satisfactory! 3 or 4 picks out of 8 symbols would have been more rewarding and gratifying.

Next, the free spins feature game, triggered whenever 3 or more scatter symbols, represented by TOP TRUMPS, appear anywhere on the reels. You also get to choose 1 player symbol to be the extra wild symbol. 5 scatters anywhere on the reels would still award the same number of 10 free spins, but paying out x250 the total bet. In this instance, the x250 total bet payout is acceptable, but the 10 free spins award is rather a let down, in my opinion, considering that wins without the extra wild are paid only x1 the line bet, not the usual x3 line bet as in other free spins feature games! With the extra wild, however, any wins with it are paid x4 the line bet, which is quite good actually, but not always attainable. At the end of the feature game, you would usually end up with a smaller total amount than what you would usually get when playing with a x3 win multiplier at every spin.

All in all, not a really bad game to play, but not the best either. It will certainly keep you playing for a while, but a time will come when the bonus and free spin feature games do not pay that much and disappointment begin to set in. Then it's time to leave and look for a better game to play. If still interested in football games, the newer ones introduced not so long ago could be better choices, but again, it's all up to every individual's taste and preferences. So, happy footballing! ;)
