Buffalo Blitz

A slot from Playtech based on the buffalo (but really it is a bison) and various other North American animals. Buffaloes are found in Africa and South Asia, while bison roam in North and South America. If you are familiar with the Raging Rhino slot by WMS then this slot by Playtech is obviously inspired by that. Which ones you ask? They are bear, moose, raccoon, lynx. This is one of those slots with 6 reels and 4096 ways which is given plenty of ways to win. This particular slot is more to my liking than the Epic Ape version which is a clone of this but for some reason, I have had more luck on the Buffalo Blitz. The slot is loaded with an RTP of 95.96% just under 96% and that is still a satisfactory level of RTP and should be enough to deliver some decent wins along the way. My experiences thus far have shown me that this slot has given me a feature about every 176 spins and that is not much of a waiting time.
When it comes to features payouts well what I have found thus far is that they have only been about 59xBet on average, not too bad at all.
The free spins feature is triggered by getting 3 or more free games scatter symbols, 3 scatters will give you 8 free spins, 4 scatters give you 15 free spins, 5 scatters will give you 25 free spins games, and on those super rare occasions if you get 6 scatters then you will get a whopping 100 free spins! Can’t say that I have had anything more than 8 free games but there is one good thing about this slot when it comes to free spins features is that you can get a retrigger by getting 2 scatters or more to get additional free spins. I will also have to mention that the wild diamond will multiply your wins randomly by 2x, 3x, or 5x. Obviously, it tends to be a lot more 2x wilds.

Min bet is 0.40 so perhaps that can be a problem for some players that like to play on lower stakes such as 0.25 or 0.20 in this case you will have to play on a minimum of 0.40. I have found that there can be a large number of dead spins and the game has a tendency to tease a big win by leaving out a symbol on a reel especially when it comes to buffalos missing on reel 1 or 2.

As far as I know, Rival came out with their game Blazin' Buffalo several years ago. Then WMS came out with a similar version entitled Raging Rhino, but playing with 6-reels and 4-rows, and with a baffling 4096 ways to win. Apparently, this game became very popular with many players, but I was always restricted from trying it out. When Playtech released a similar version of Raging Rhino, called Buffalo Blitz, I finally get to try the game out. Not exactly the Raging Rhino that I would like to play on, but it has about the same game concept, with 6-reels and 4-rows, and that 4096 ways to win too. Gees! With so many paylines in a game, getting small wins should be a breeze right? Well, it didn't quite work out in the way I had expected it to, for me at least.

With 6 reels and 4 rows, all the symbols become so much smaller and less attractive, so much so, the overall appearance isn't that good at all. Nothing like big very nice icons for me. Small ones are cluttering and unpleasing. The Diamond is the Wild symbol in the game, appearing only on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5, multiplies all wins by 2x, 3x or 5x randomly, and substitutes for other symbols except the Scatter symbol. What I don't like about this Wild symbol is in not paying for itself and not appearing stacked or expanded. Instead, the Buffalo symbol is stacked on all reels. 'Free Games' is the Scatter symbol, again not paying anything for itself, argh, and getting 3 or more of them awards up to 100 free spins, in the order of 8, 15, 25 and 100 free spins, depending on the number of triggering Scatters. The highest paying symbol, the Buffalo, pays a very low 300x the line bet for 6 of them, and the other symbols pay from 250x to 100x the line bet for 6 of each kind. Damn! If not for the 4096 ways to win, I would use unspeakable expletives in rating this kind of paytable! It's a blardy low one indeed.

During the Free Spins game, 2 Scatter symbols adds 5 more free spins, 3 Scatters adding 8 more, and so forth, up to adding 100 more free spins with 6 Scatters, and with an infinite number of free spins possible. This is just a marketing ploy, which can never be true of course, because the free spins just cannot go on indefinitely forever! Where Playtech is concerned, Safari Heat still holds the record for the most number of retriggering of the Free Spins games, with 20 retriggers, for an additional 300 more free spins. Other games have the same 'infinite' retriggering clause too, but they usually end within 6 retriggers. For Microgaming games, as a comparison, it is mostly 1 retrigger, but very difficult to get, or very rarely with 2 retriggers, and only once in a blue moon with 4 retriggers. Nothing more than that, as far as I know.

I was excited to be able to try out something new with Buffalo Blitz, but the only blitz I got was lots of empty and non-paying spins! A very big disappointment for me. Not only that, the stacked Buffalo symbols do not appear often enough, and tend to appear in mostly non-winning combinations. What the argh! The Wild symbol is just as bad, hardly appearing at all during the free spins, thereby greatly reducing chances of getting multiplied wins with it. Worse still, this multiplier only works during the free spins. The Wild symbol doesn't multiply any wins in the base game! Argh! What a buffalo of a game this turns out to be for me. Nah, no more tries on it. Once bitten, twice shy.

Buffalo Blitz is powered by Playtech and has 6 reels, 4 rows and 4,096 ways to win. Playable from $0.40 per spin, this game is available to play on desktop, mobile and tablet devices. The theme is about buffalos with strong resemblance to Raging Rhino. It has the same amount of reels, rows and paylines.

This game is based on the American buffalo which is of course the highest paying symbol. Other symbols include are skunks, lynxes, bears, moose and oddly enough, diamonds. The buffalo offers 300 x your line bet if you manage to get 6 on the reels and also come in stacked form on the reels.

The game most interesting point is the free spins feature. Landing 3 or more free games scattered symbols on the reels lands you 10 free spins. If you get 4 you will get 25 free spins. If you get 5 you will get 50 free spins and you if you land 6 scattered you will get a whopping 100 free spins (I hope I will live to witness this one day).

During the free spins look out for the diamond symbol on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 which act as wild. During free spins when wild substitute in winning combination then you they apply a random multiplier of x2, x3 or x5. Imagine getting at least 2 or 3 wilds with a few buffalos on the reels.

If the scatter symbol lands on the reels during free spins, additional free spins are awarded. You will only need 2 scatter symbols to add 5 additional spins. I don't think there is a limit as to how many extra spins you can win during the feature. I never won much on this slot as it is fairly new, but I am in process of trying to make a big win and make a decent cash out. The reason I like this slot is because I saw how big people win on raging rhino and I am not allowed to play it. So a replica is a good choice for me as well.

Buffalo Blitz looks unbelievably like Williams' "Raging Rhino", so much so that I was genuinely shocked to discover this was a Playtech slot - I'm sure this could get them into some trouble at some point! There's the same 6x4 symbol grid, the same wild setup including multiplier wilds, and the games namesake Buffalo symbol is stacked on all reels just like the Rhino. Even the font used for the 9TJQKA symbols looks just like a WMS font... Wow!

Raging Rhino has always been brutally harsh on me so I didn't come at Buffalo Blitz with particularly high expectations. I've certainly never seen the 100 free spins on offer for six scatters, or even the 25 promised for five for that matter.

You might expect huge wins on the paytable on a six reel game but it doesn't really work that way here because of the ridiculous 4096 pay ways. It's still quite hard to get a six of a kind of anything though which is a little disappointing considering even six of the buffalo symbols pays just 7.5x your stake. Of course, the point is being able to win on a huge number of those 4096 ways at once, possibly even with a couple of the multiplier wild symbols... the base paytable really doesn't mean very much in this type of game.

And that's what is so exciting about both Buffalo and Rhino - the maximum possible win is almost incalculable, but you'll need a hell of a lot of patience in order to get anywhere near to it. These games deliver a horrendous number of dead spins and no matter how many screenshots of enormous wins I see on these games, I just can't seem to get even close to one of them no matter how much I play. I guess the huge playfield just means there are so many more possible results in these games!

There's a huge number of casinos that offer only Playtech games and if you frequent one of those and also enjoy WMS' Raging Rhino then this is no doubt a game you'll want to try out. It's firmly in the average bracket for me right now, but I do put a few spins through it every other week or so, so maybe that will change in time!
