Other providers have already got several games of the ‘Book Of’ genre, but Microgaming isn’t one of them, so it’s refreshing (for me at least) to see this Book Of Oz game being released by them. Microgaming do not generally clone games by other providers, mostly on their own existing games, but this Book Of Oz is a nice mixture of one-other-provider game plus their own.

What or how do I mean by that? Well, this Book Of Oz plays and pays just as any other Book game, with a maximum win of 5000x the total bet for getting the top expanding symbol in the free spins. The difference lies in its capability for choosing one other expanding symbol if you do not like the selected one, and also the ability to lock any of the 5 reels to try and get a win in the next spin. If you can remember Microgaming’s Dragon Dance or Wild Orient game, then you know what I mean, whereby you can pick any reel or reels to lock them, at a cost of course, and hope to get the winning required symbol on the next spin. Book Of Oz offers both of these two extra features, for two extra kicks, if I may say so, hehehe.

Before you quickly jump into locking the reels, kindly take note that the cost of locking each reel can be expensive, yet it does not guarantee a win on the next spin. For example, I already had 2 Scatters on the reels, needing just 1 more to trigger the free spins feature, so I locked the 2 reels with the Scatter symbols, costing me $1.38 extra over the $0.20 bet, gave it 3 consecutive spins, costing me $4.74, yet couldn’t get that blardy third Scatter symbol! That reel-locking-to-win feature can only work after many attempts, and may not be worth it at all most of the times.

Other than that, changing the selected expanding symbol may also work or may not work for you, but at least it doesn’t cost anything extra to change the symbol. Needless to say, you do need plenty of luck to win on any Book game, and Book Of Oz is just the same!

Book of Oz is a game I had heard of before multiple times but hadn't played it much myself until recently. The game comes from Microgaming and I think I started to hear more of it when its' sequence slot was released with lock n spin option. Book of Oz is a 5 reel 10 payline slot with 10 cents as minimum bets.

If I'm being honest, I don't really see much appeal in this game, other than the fact that it allows you to respin reels for a particular cost and is in general inexpensive. Talking about the design, it doesn't speak much to me, it's inspired by wizard theme but for my eyes, it's quite a generic design. 

For 3 or more bonus symbols you get 10 free spins and again, just like all the other book games before, you get one expanding symbol that will expand during free games- just like Book of Dead and pretty much any book game. I have had the free spins multiple times on this slot, both by respinning wheels to get scatters for extra cost and organically and for the most part I've had letter symbols as expanding symbols and 90% of the time I would end up with 40x-60x bet win, very rarely more. My biggest win was due to a retrigger when I had over 100x bet win.

Overall this is quite an average game in my opinion. There's no base game feature, the base payouts are decent to keep a steady balance, so that's a plus. In my sessions I've only ended up with a loss due to the respin feature- I've said this before and I still believe that this is a good feature to have but players need to be extremely careful with it as even with 10 cent bets some of the respins may cost 50x bet and more and even then it's not guaranteed that your symbol will land. I think this is a decent game but certainly not in my favorites or go-to list.

Microgaming games were never that attractive to me and I honestly was ignoring their games until I came upon Book of Oz that is released in late 2018 and it seemed like a good game to try out. The game has 5 reels and 10paylines, and the minimum bet you can do per spin is 0.10$ per spin which is really good because I don't like to risk a lot of money trying some game for the first time.

The Book of Oz as the name states is similar to the many book slots out there with the same concept revolving around getting 3 or more "Books" to trigger the free spins, 3 Book of Oz will grant you 10 free spins, 4, 12 free spins, and 5, extraordinary 25 free spins which has a huge potential because as soon the free spins start you will be given a random expanding symbol. Such as Oz himself that is highest paying symbol, blue elixir, purple elixir, or a red elixir and those are top-paying symbols which can pay a lot of money, but unfortunately there is a high chance you will get 10, J, Q, K, or A that are low paying symbols.I've never had a lot of luck playing free spins but with some retriggers you can manage to get some nice wins at least.

The unique feature that this game offers is a reel respin function that lets you spin individual reels as many times as you like which I like to use quite a lot when game teases me with only 2 books, so I try to get last one but remember that respin comes with a cost and you can end up losing a lot of money chasing that last book or anything you need to complete a winning combination.

As a high variance slot, this game has outstanding potential in both base games and free spins as you can win up to 5000x which is what makes me come back and play this game quite often hoping for it to finally explode and make me happy, but in another hand the graphics and symbols are well done too and maybe I can't admit to myself that I found my book of dead replacement.

I've never seen a book game that has so many teases in my life, as it forces you to use respin feature which most of the time will just eat your money over and over again, and I wish there was some slow-motion when doing a respin instead of just almost instantly showing you all the symbols.
