Book of Dead Slot Overview

The mysteries of ancient Egypt continue to cast a spell on slot players, and few have proved quite as enticing as Book of Dead. Created by Play’n GO, it’s a simple 5 reel, 10 payline video slot that combines great design with some top gameplay. The main attraction in this highly volatile game is the Free Spins feature where expanding symbols can deliver jackpots fit for a Pharaoh. Find out more in our unbiased and detailed Book of Dead review.

Book of Dead Details, RTP, Payout and Volatility

Book of Dead is an extremely easy slot to understand. The action takes place on a 5x3 reel setup and comes with 10 fixed paylines. Land 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols or wilds from left to right in a payline, starting from reel 1 and you’ll land a winner. A minimum of just 2 is needed for the four highest paying symbols.

If you want to spin away with all 10 paylines active, you can play Book of Dead at bet levels of between £/€/$ 0.10 to 50.00 per spin. There’s an option to adjust the number of active paylines so, in theory, you can play from as little as £/€/$ 0.01 per spin with just a single live payline. Use the arrows next to the coins box to adjust your bet size.

In most cases, the Book of Dead RTP is a better than average 96.21%. There are versions with 94.25%, 91.25%, 87.25% or even 84.18% return to player rates, so check the paytable to make sure you’re playing the version you want to play at your chosen online casino.

The gameplay in Book of Dead is simple but this is a slot that can deliver a knockout punch. The Book of Dead volatility is high. The most you can potentially win from a single spin is 5,000 x bet.

Book of Dead Theme, Audio and Symbols

Book of Dead is a lavishly designed slot. The reels are dripping in gold. That might make this slot sound a bit too bling for some tastes but it’s all rather tastefully done. Sandstone walls covered in hieroglyphs form the backdrop to the reels. Those reels are set within ornately designed columns.

The Book of Dead soundtrack is a classic of the genre. The lush orchestration has just the right hint of Egypt which gives the game that all-important air of mystery. That’s certainly the case in the bonus round where the sound ramps up another level. Combine the silky sound with some of the best visuals you’ll find anywhere, and you have a slot that’s packed full of atmosphere.

On the regal deep purple reels, you’ll find A to 10 royals edged in gold plus the bird god Horus, the jackal god Anubis and a gold Tutankhamun-style burial mask. The most rewarding standard symbol is treasure hunter extraordinaire, rugged Rich Wilde. Land 5 of him in a line for a payout of 500 x bet. In the happy event of filling all 5 reels with Rich Wilde symbols, you’ll scoop the game’s top prize of 5,000 x bet.

The golden tomb symbol serves a dual role. It’s wild and substitutes for all the standard symbols in a winning combination, and also a scatter which can trigger the bonus round. Here’s a list of the symbols you’ll come across in the game and the payout info for each:

  • 10: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.5, 2.5 or 10 x stake
  • J: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.5, 2.5 or 10 x stake
  • Q: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.5, 2.5 or 10 x stake
  • K: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.5, 4 or 15 x stake
  • A: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.5, 4 or 15 x stake
  • Horus: 2, 3, 4 or 5 = 0.5, 3, 10 or 75 x stake
  • Anubis: 2, 3, 4 or 5 = 0.5, 3, 10 or 75 x stake
  • Osiris: 2, 3, 4 or 5 = 0.5, 4, 40 or 200 x stake
  • Rich Wilde: 2, 3, 4 or 5 = 1, 10, 100 or 500 x stake
  • Tomb Wild/Scatter: Substitutes, pays up to 200 x bet + triggers free spins

Book of Dead Mobile

Created using HTML5 technology, Book of Dead is available to play on all devices including PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones. The vivid visuals work beautifully on the smaller devices and you won’t miss anything if you’re playing the Book of Dead mobile slot rather than the desktop version. The 5x3 reel setup looks great on smaller screens.

Book of Dead Bonus features

Play’n GO has kept things nice and simple as far as features in Book of Dead go. There’s only one bonus feature. It has some exciting potential though, offering free spins with expanding symbols. Let’s run you through the bonus feature so you can fully understand everything this slot has to offer.

Free Spins feature

Trigger the bonus round by landing 3, 4 or 5 tomb scatter symbols anywhere on the reels on the same spin. You’ll then receive a payout of 2, 20 or 200 x bet followed by 10 free spins. Before those spins begin, the Book of Dead will scroll through its pages and stop to reveal a single symbol. This will be the special expanding symbol throughout the round. Whenever this symbol lands, it expands to fill the whole off that reel. Expanding symbols don’t have to be next to each other in the payline to win either. For example, expanding symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 would still result in a winner.

Book of Dead Verdict

There are hundreds of ancient Egyptian-themed slots available and Book of Dead is right up there with the very best of them. Play’n GO’s simple formula of free spins and expanding symbols has proved extremely popular. Combine that with some of the best sound and visuals you’ll find anywhere and it makes for a very appealing game. Online casinos often include Book of Dead as a slot you can use when claiming welcome bonuses, so keep an eye out for that as it’s a great way to test the game out.

The RTP of 96.21% is generous and very typical of a lot of Play’n GO slots. The volatile gameplay can deliver bumper payouts of up to 5,000 x bet.

Main character Rich Wilde’s treasure hunting has taken him around the world in a series of spin off slots. They include:

They all have their charms but we usually come back to Book of Dead. If you like slots that offer a huge range of bonuses and features, this might not be for you. For everyone else, Book of Dead is a red-hot Egyptian classic.

If you’re on the hunt for Egyptian-themed slots that offer bigger win potential and more bonus features than this one, check out the likes of John Hunter and the Tomb of the Scarab Queen from Pragmatic Play or Immortails of Egypt from Play’n GO. They come with 10,500 x bet and 10,000 x bet max wins respectively.

When I first played Book of dead slot game I didn't like the game at all because the wins weren't very big at all and I found it practically impossible to hit the free spins feature with my tiny $10 deposit and betting minimum of 9c only. After depositing $10 three times in a row and having spun at least over 350 spins at only at 9c per spin throughout $30 game play and loosing all it all without even hitting the free spins feature at all, I decided to give up and give this game as miss for good and didn't play the slot game again until the game was featured and played during one of videoslots battle of the slots sit and go freeroll battles.

Each freeroll battle consists of 25 spins at 9c per spin. I got the free spins feature quite a few times and it was retriggered more than a few times also. During one battle I hit the free spins feature which was retrigered two more times giving me 60 free spins all up and winning a total of over seventy dollars!
After seeing how much I could win from this game I decided to give it another shot and I'm glad I did because I have had quite a few big wins since then.

This slot game is a hit and miss for me. Sometimes you can win big where the free spins are triggered easily within the first few spins and then retriggered again easily but other times you wont get any big wins and the free spins feature is hard to hit and when it is triggered the winnings are very low. One time it took me $10 times five deposits and only betting at 9c throughout, which is at least over 500 spins, before the free spins was triggered.
I was thinking to myself I was definitely gonna get a big win because it's taken this long to trigger the free spins but when I finally got them you can imagine how disappointed I was when I only won a bit over $2 from it, wow!!

Book of Dead is a very powerful video slot game from Play `N Go. I play this game from time to time and the outcome is always different like with any other game. This slot is set in Ancient Egypt with special features and expanding wilds in order to expand your wins too.

Book of Dead is a 5 reels and 10 pay lines video slot game. There were times when I was winning a lot in this game and there were times when I was losing my bankroll very fast. This is a high variance slot so if you want to win big you need to risk a lot. This game is very similar with the very popular slot from Novomatic Book of Ra but I would say that this one has at least better graphics.

In the Book of Dead video slot game the book symbol is acting as wild and as scatter too. When it acts as wild it substitutes for all the other symbols in order to help you in landing more winning combinations. If you land 3 or more symbols you activate the free spins feature. The last time I played this slot I thought that I will lose all my money and I will not manage to trigger the free spins. All the time I was getting 2 book symbols and they were on the last reels so they were not helping my balance at all. I got 10 free spins after an hour playing I think and I won only 20 x bet. Luckily I had some money on my balance from other games that I have been playing before I switched to Book of Dead. All in all the highest amount that I have won during this game was 950 x bet. I had 4 pharaohs on an active pay line and some other symbols too, and for this reason I play this game, hoping to land a win even better than this one.

My first experiences with this game weren't the best, I got a bunch of free spins on the game from a handful of my favourite casinos and had almost entirely dead spins. As a result I forgot about the game for a while until I received 15 free spins from Videoslots a couple of months back when I had much more success. It had been a while since I had my last five scatters when five books dropped onto the screen awarding a very reasonable 200x my free spin 0.10 stake on just my second spin!

Finishing up my free spins with a little over 35.00 I decided to continue playing the game and hit the free spins round for a second time shortly after. This time I was fortunate enough to get a decent boost from the expanding wild feature which chooses a random symbol to expand across the reels when it forms part of a winning combination. If the "Riche Wild" symbol is chosen and expands to fill the whole screen you can win the games jackpot of 2500x your stake, I wasn't quite as lucky as that but still finished up my 15 free spins worth just £1.50 with a final balance of almost £100.00! As videoslots have no restrictions or wagering requirements on their free spins I was able to withdraw my balance immediately and use it to participate in a welcome bonus at another casino. What an awesome result!

Sure, this ancient egyptian theme has been done to death in the slot world - since IGT's Cleopatra it has become an extremely popular basis for slot games and that trend has continued in style into the on-line slot world. I wouldn't say this is the best looking egyptian themed slot game and in fact I would have to say I probably prefer the excellent Cleopatra II over this game despite my lucky free spins win, but it's a high quality game nonetheless and the 5000 coin payoff for a five of a kind of the top symbol is a welcome find with all the bad paytables appearing in on-line slots these days.

More paylines might mean you see wins more often but Book of Dead shows there's a whole lot of life left in the old 9/10 line format in 2016. This isn't one to rival Dead or Alive, but it's a solid slot and one that I'll definitely be playing a lot more in the future.

At first i though i will like this slot because of my success i had on the famous Book of Ra slot. Now given that this slot is a clone of the Book of Ra, i though my time will be great on this slot but i think this slot is very bad, even worst than Play'n Go latest release"Hugo" and you can imagine how much empty spins you have on Hugo.

Now as much as I like Play'n Go, this is definitely not a book that I like and will not read it at all. 10 paylines, 5 reels says it all, very difficult to win. Thinking how difficult it is to win in Pimped, Royal Masquerade, this book of dead is worst.

If you love the slot Book of Ra then you definitely will not like love this slot as this book is completely dead. Dead spins, dead wins, dead money, losing money. Now the Book of Ra base game does not pay a lot but you definitely make most of your money back during free spins. Rich Wilde is the highest paying symbol, not sure why and then he has his Egyptian era symbols like pharaoh, the idol and the bird type of symbol. The rest are the low paying deck of cards, which is the only thing that comes in a 3 of a kind or 5 of a kind if you lucky.

Now the dead free spins feature is triggered when the book of dead appears. The book also act as wild, but if free spins are triggered, those 3 dead books hardly land in a winning combo. You will get 10 free spins with a special scattered symbol. You know during base game you see deck of cards symbols 90% of the time, but during free spins you will see 2 or 3 of them on the reels. If it is really your day you will see 4 of kind maybe 5. Even so the wins are not even great either. I have only manage to trigger free spins once and that was with A symbol, but man I tell you I won 470 coins during free spins.

Now give me an address so I can go and find this Rich Wilde character because all he does is take my money with this deadly game. You can try this game but be warned, unless you have about $1000 to throw away be my guest.

Well PlayNGo provider could make a bit more effort and make this game a little bit different then Book of Ra, this game reminds so much of the game I have mentioned. When I saw this game for the first time and seeing the free spins feature, specially the wild one and the scatter one which are the same symbol the Book, same old story of Book of Ra slot but this time with new title Book of Dead game.

Book of Dead slot is a 5 reel with only 10 pay lines and by the way I really hate this kind of games, but given as free spins offered by some casinos when they launched this game, can't say no for a freebie. The game has nothing special so in my eyes its another PlayNGo slot with very low variance, giving you some tiny wins, well in my case all dead or empty spins.

The game has free spins feature and the most that player can get is 20 free spins. The Book is a wild symbols but scatter as well, so triggering 3 Book symbols will award you 10 free spins and the more scatters triggered the more spins would be won. The only thing I liked is the free spins feature where the wilds are expanding, but even so I didn't manage to trigger something bigger then 25 X my bet size. I even deposited once in iGame casino where they were giving 100 free spins for one tiny deposit so I thought I could give it another try.

So from those 100 free spins I only won 8.50 euros and triggered the free spins only once. Sorry PlayNGo, but this is not my type of casino games, it might have nice potential of big wins, but I doubt I rill trigger it. So yet another slot game from this provider which I definitely would never play, or I might but only given as free spins from some casinos.

Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead, is the full title of this new game from PlayNGo. The game is actually nothing new at all, but merely a clone of Book of Ra and similar games. If you've played Book of Ra, then consider yourself as having played this Book of Dead. Other than its title, everything play the same way. The only difference being, some games play very well indeed, some play so-so, but some games do play horribly.

The Book is the Wild and the Scatter symbol at the same time, as in all other similar games too. 5 Scatters/Wilds pay 200x the total bet. 3 or more Scatters award 10 free spins with a random Special Scattering symbol, as expected. Rich Wilde is the next highest paying symbol, 5 of him paying 5000x the line bet. The Pharaoh pays 2000x, the Idol pays 750x, and the Bird pays 750x also, all as per line bet for 5-of-a-kind of each. The lower symbols pay 150x to 100x the line bet. This paytable is actually no different from that of any similar games, making Book of Dead a definite clone too.

The Book of Ra Deluxe, a Novomatic game, can play horribly bad, but when it starts paying, it's like selling hot cakes! So I wasn't expecting anything different from this Book of Dead game, but I was hoping that it would play slightly differently from all the other similar games, and justify in a way, for labelling Book of Dead a new game, but this isn't so. A clone is a clone in every aspect of its game play.

I just couldn't believe my eyes when I played this game the first time. Right from the very first spin, it went on and on and on without giving any Free Spins game. Whatever some spins paid were so meagre and miserably small, with not a single 5-of-a-kind win. Nothing decent at all, nothing worthwhile at all. It ate up all of my first deposit like a very hungry lion, without any pause to breathe! On another day, I tried again, with the same blardy result! This Book of Dead was performing like the dead, and remaining dead. On my third deposit, I finally got the first Free Spins game, with 'K' as the scattering symbol, but all I got was twice of 4 reels of K and twice of 3 reels. All others were dead, well, almost. With such blardy poor payouts, I simply gave up trying. This Book of Dead should remain with the dead for ever more!

Book of Dead is video slot with 5 reels and 10 paylines. It is creation of Play'n GO software provider. I do not like Play'n GO software games so much, mostly because I never won any massive big win on them. But I had some decent winnings around x100 bet.

I came across this one some month ago, while I was playing at Casumo. Well I heard of it, before I made even my deposit there. When I tried to deposit, I got some offer for 30 free spins on Book of Dead game. After I made deposit I opened it, and from those free spins I won only around 3€. I was a little bit disappointed at the beginning, but later when I saw that it has only 10 paylines – I guess it was ok. Hehe.

The game has only one feature – free spins. Those free spins feature has special expanding symbol mode. When you trigger 10 free spins, you will get some random expanding symbol. I like this kind of mode during free spins, i played a few other games which have this kind of feature and I won pretty decent money from them. But those games were powered by other softwares.

After I used 30 free spins I played it for some more time. I triggered free spins once and from them I won almost x100 bet. Well later I just closed it, because I got bored. I think the free spins feature is great here, but main game is quite boring with small payouts.
I am not so sure that I will play it again in near future. Mostly because it was hard to get those free spins while I was playing it. And the thing which I dislike here is that you can’t get more than 10 free spins. I triggered feature with 4 scattered books – but there were the same number of free spins.

Book of the Dead is a video slot game that is created in Play'n Go. This game has 10 pay-lines and 5 reels. When it comes to the appearance of the game, the theme and even the sound that can be heard while playing, this game really reminds me of another video slot game called Book of Ra (Novomatic). There is no doubt that the Book of Ra was inspiration to the creators in Play'n Go.

When it comes to the graphics and the animation, this game is not that bad but I expected more because this is one of the newest Play'n Go slot games. From features here you have the interesting free spins feature. This feature can be reached with 3 or more symbols with the book. Also, the symbol of the book is the wild symbol. You get 10 free spins with a special symbol that during the free spins becomes a wild symbol and which spreads over the entire reel on which it appears. Actually this can bring you big wins on this game, because not often can happen that the wild symbol covers the entire 3 or 4 reels during the free spins.

Although my experience with this game is not big it seems to me that you can’t reach the free spins so easily. The only time, I played Book of the Dead with a bet of 1 Euro per spin. The truth is that, already after just a few spins I have reached the free spins where I had total wins bigger than 150 x bet. But after that I spent more than 1.5 hours on this game with just one break, and I did not reached the free spins again. What can I write at the end of this review? The Book of the Dead does not offer a lot of excitement or too much originality and from me will get only the minimum positive rating i.e. 6 out of 10 possible stars.
