Tome of Madness Review - Editor's Impressions

The Tome of Madness is the fourth instalment in Play’n GO’s popular Rich Wilde series. The intrepid explorer delves into tombs to discover the secrets of the Cult of Cthulhu.

The series is based on books by H.P. Lovecraft, who was renowned for his horror writing, and it shows in The Tome of Madness, which is packed with spooky music and graphics.

This is a really well-crafted and entertaining slot. We love the cascading grid and cluster system, as it’s much easier to spot your wins straight away. Read our Tome of Madness slot review for everything you need to know to start your adventure.

Overview of Tome of Madness Game

Play’n GO have used a 5x5 cascading grid for The Tome of Madness slot machine. Rather than traditional paylines, you need to match four or more symbols vertically, diagonally, or horizontally.

Winning symbols are replaced with new ones, helping one win to become more wins! In this sense it’s not unlike Viking Runecraft, from the same developer.

The lower-paying symbols are coloured runes, and the higher-paying symbols are a skull, ring, sword, and Cthulhu.

There are also three different Wilds: The book is a Special Wild, which can activate other features. Rich Wilde himself is a Multiplier Wild, which doubles any win. The one-eyed monster is a Mega Wild, which you can find in the bonus game.

There is also a portal, which unlocks new features as it charges, similar to other games where you have to fill a meter. More on that later.

Tome of Madness RTP, Payout and Volatility

The Tome of Madness RTP is 96.59%, and volatility is high. You can bet from £0.10 to £100. The max win is 2,000x, not the highest you might find in online slots.

Tome of Madness Graphics and Gaming Experience

Play’n GO are known for creating stylish games with impressive graphics, and Tome of Madness is certainly no exception. The series is brought to life beautifully here, with the dramatic music and sound effects adding to the adventure.

You can also play on mobiles, but being a 5x5 grid, it can feel a little cramped on smaller devices.

Tome of Madness Bonus Features

Tome of Madness uses a portal for most of its bonus features. It can take a while to get going, but as it’s a cascading grid, wins can escalate pretty quickly. Fully charging the portal will trigger the Other World Free Round.

Eye Marks are another feature to look out for. These are purple squares that appear on the grid, normally there’s one. If you make a cluster on it, you get two Special Wilds once you’re out of wins.

If you make it to the Other World Free Round you get 11 or 12. Make wins in all of them to summon the Mega Wild. This takes over multiple squares, moving down the grid to potentially make plenty of wins.

Tome of Madness Other World Free Round

Once you hit seven symbols in winning combinations, two Special Wilds are added to the grid, helping you hit more. Reach 14 and the same happens. This time though, if you make a combination with one of the Wilds, the Abyss feature is activated, wiping out a row or column, and further charging the portal as it does so.

27 Symbols gives two more Special Wilds, which will trigger the Void feature if they make a combination. Void removes all instances of one random symbol. Reach 42 and you get to play the Other World Free Round.

In this bonus round you get three Portal Effects, which are used when you have no more winning combinations. You can also get more Portal Effects by making new combinations, up to a maximum of seven.

The Other World Free Round is this slot’s version of Free Spins and the reels will continue to spin as long as there are Portal effects activated. You can see how they all work by playing the Tome of Madness slot demo.

Summary of Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness - A Stylish Slot Where you Can Really Get on a Roll

Tome of Madness is a slot that really looks the part. The graphics and sound make for a great gaming experience. Fortunately the gameplay is also up to standard.

The cascading system, along with the Special Wilds and the Portal, mean that once you get on a roll, the wins can keep coming. We didn’t find it too hard to hit a run of combinations either.

Try the Tome of Madness slot demo for yourself to see if it’s your type of slot, but we definitely think it’s one of the best video slots around.

A slot from Play’n’Go and as you might know Playn’Go is well known for their cluster based slot games and they think you can never have enough of cluster games so they made this cluster based game too and it features Rich Wilde the character they use in other slot games such as Book of Dead, Rich Wilde is an Indiana Jones type character. The slot has 5 reels and 5 rows and plenty of clusters. Min bet is just 0.10 per spin makes it ideal for low rollers and gives you plenty of play time as there are plenty of base wins and teases too in almost reaching the feature.

The slot lis a cluster type game so that means filling up a meter on the left and to do that you will need to get wins in the main window screen and the more wins you get the more it fills the meter on the left and sooner or later you will fill it and the feature game will start. I was able to trigger the feature quite quickly during my first session which meant getting the feature in just 73 spins and it paid almost 70x.

There is the potential during the feature to fill the meter more and you will get this wild symbol that moves downstars on the screen giving you plenty of wins, during my feature I wasn’t able to trigger this special wild but I have had it in funmode. It is an unusual slot with plenty of interesting elements to it and who knows I could play it again and maybe go for a better win. I know they made a sequel to it called Tome of Insanity so that is another option to play that instead.

The sound and music is suitable for this spooky game I would is good, there is some foreign language spoken during the game as it is some sort of cult game theme.

When it comes to the base game in my short session there wasn’t much to say about it but that the triggering win paid just over 10x and then the feature started so I still consider that as a base win.

As for the RTP that is with this slot, it runs on on the 96.59% and that is the setting I played it at and would recommend that RTP. The high RTP gives the player plenty of game play and I found that to be the case when I played the slot in my first session.

DISLIKED

The max win for this slot game is just 2000x and from what I have read it is almost impossile to achieve and who knows if anyone has ever achieved it. PlayNGo isn’t one of those providers that makes slots with achievable max wins it is more about the game play and keeps the balance going with smaller wins along the way.

Game sometimes like all cluster games like to tease where you almost reach the required 42 points on the meter.

If I can have it my way, I would rename this Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness game into Bad Wilde and the Tome of Madness. Why? That’s because none of his games, of which there are indeed quite a number of them, have ever given me any good big wins so far over the years. I actually do like a few of PlaynGo games, like Pimped and Holiday Season to name a few, but this Rich fellow has never been kind to me. Playing his game would always end up poorly for me, even though some other players do get some good wins from it.

However, I do like the minimum starting bet of only 0.10 for a 5-reels 5-rows game, but then again, clusters-pay kind of games have very seldomly given me good wins, for one reason or another. I really envy those who could get nice big wins from such games, but it seems like I would never be one of them. My kind of games have always been, and will always be, the standard 5-reels 3-rows kind. So, I would always avoid playing any multi-rows, clusters-pay, or even Megaways/All Ways kind of games. They can never be good for me.

I have played this Tome of Madness games on several occasions and at different casinos too, but always ending up disappointed. I also don’t like that this game doesn’t award a free spins feature game in the usual manner, that is by getting 3 or more Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, but instead requiring collecting 52 symbol wins into the Progress Counter. That sucks! Worse still, it awards only 7 free spins, and doesn’t have the usual retriggering of the free spins either. How anyone can even like this kind of reward mechanics is beyond me, but there you are, different people, different tastes and likes.

DISLIKED

The maximum win is only 2000x the bet, yet the game plays like a very high variance one. Nothing about this game that I like really, only have dislikes, so I won’t be playing this game whenever I can.

Rich Wilde and the tome of madness is an online slot game that was released a couple of years ago by the famously known slot provider company, Play N Go. The slot game's design is dark trying to pass mystical vibes. The minimum bet in order to play the slot is 0.10 cents per spin which is pretty much amazing since you can try it out without having to worry about losing your balance fast. Additionally, the theoretical RTP in the rich wilde and the tome of madness slot is 96,59 %, which is pretty much decent. When it comes to the bonus feature, your goal is to fill the progress bar which is located on the left side of the slot. Filling it with 42 symbols will open the portal to the bonus game. Please note that by filling more symbols into the progress bar you will be given up to 7 winning spins for the main bonus game. During the bonus game, your goal is to make as many winning combinations as possible in all the slot set, in every angle to fill the progress bar. You will also get a big help from the 2 special features that are guaranteed on each spin, the Abyss and the Void feature. Filling it, you will be given one special spin at the end of the free games where the special stacked wild symbol will appear. When the mega wild is dropped in the slot, it will keep moving down giving you more and more wins until it reaches at the bottom of the slot. I have played the particular slot game so many times that I have honestly lost count. It is probably the only game that I am pretty sure I have won on each bet and of course big wins. The biggest one I had was on a 1 euro bet and it was 1100x. Yes, you heard it right.

DISLIKED

I love this slot because the bonus feature is pretty much easy to be triggered while the 2000x max win potential which makes the rich wilde and the tome of madness a medium volatile slot gives frequent wins that help you build up your balance.

Tome of madness is a PlaynGo slot which is another addition to their Riche Wilde explorer series. This time the explorer is in the hunt of the mythical creature Cthulhu. Tome of madness has got the slot design placed on a giant tile in the middle of a few pillars with Rich Wilde standing next to it. The slot has got a haunting music which goes with the theme of the game.

The slot has 5x5 reel where symbols pay in clusters of 4 or more. Every win triggers a cascading feature and every hit lands new symbols. The slot has 4 low variant symbols in green, blue, red and purple gems that pay in the range of 2x to 6x of your bet size on a connection of more than 10 symbols. The slot also has 4 premium symbols in an octopus skull, a ring, a dagger and a pendant with an octopus engraved in it. The octopus pendant is the highest paying symbol and pays up to 100x on connection of more than 10 symbols.

Apart from these symbols there is a regular wild and a Rich Wilde wild that when becomes a part of a cluster doubles your win but only for that cluster. Just next to the slot grid on the left corner there is a portal which fills up to an extent every time you connect symbols. You need to reach a a target of 7, 14, 28 and ultimately 42 symbols to trigger the other world free spins. When you collect 7 symbols you get 2 wilds and after reaching 14 symbol connections you will get 2 more wilds which after connection will release an abyss feature that clears symbols on its line. After reaching 27 symbol connections you get 2 more wilds that on connection will activate void feature. This feature removes all symbols of the same kind. In the beginning of every spin you might get a random spot on the grid on which if a paying cluster lands will activate two wilds. If you make more connections up to 54 symbols you get a chance to trigger up to 7 free spins.

In the free spins your main goal is to open the 11 or 12 eye marks across the grid. Opening every eye mark activates either abyss or void feature. If you manage to achieve this it activates the Cthulhu feature which is a 2x2 wild symbol that appears on the top most row and after the connection stops it moves lower until it reaches the bottom row.

The slot can give you a max win at 2000x. This game is one of my favorite slot to clear wager and I have had a few 750 to 800x wins on this game.

DISLIKED

The bonus feature can take a lot of spins to trigger and the bonus feature pays really low without the 2x wild. The base game feature gives you a lot of dead spins.

Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness is a game from Play'n Go game provider that was released last year. This game follows the Rich Wilde explorer theme, but this one seems like a combination of Sweet Alchemy and Reactoonz at the same time. I had even heard some players before comparing it to Reactoonz before, because of the Gargantoonz feature as this game has a similar feature bonus round.

The game itself has quite dark design and compared to Reactoonz, the minimum bet is only 10 cents. I've tried this game several times but to be honest, I don't really like it. There's a meter that is filled up when you get consecutive spins, and within this meter you get several features such as added wilds to the screen and others. When it comes to base game, not once I've had a win even over 20x bet, the game gives a lot of tiny wins, however, getting to the final feature is very difficult. Once you fill in the meter, you get one bonus spin in which features are activated, however, you need to get specific winnings on the screen to hit the necessary grid, and only if you manage that at the end of the features, the Expanding wild will come up.

One exciting thing about this expanded wild is that instead of Reactoonz, it will appear on top of the reels and then move down instead of disappearing right away. Therefore you can get a few more wins with this feature. With that being said, I've managed to get this feature a couple of times but not once had a win over 100x bet, besides it seems to be quite difficult to even get that far.

All in all, this isn't a bad game to play with small balance as the base game can give small winnings frequently, however, getting to the bonus round can take a while, and from what I've experienced, big winnings are difficult to achieve. I'd choose Book of Dead or Reactoonz any day over this game.

You remember Sweet Alchemy, I am sure all of you remember the pretty lady, but I am talking about the slot in general. If you know this slot, you will know what to expect from this release. Rich Wilde is back and released Tome of Madness slot, which plays out like the Sweet Alchemy release so its safe to say it's almost a clone.

Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness is based on another with an explorer on a mission. This slot is based on cascading reels and you form winnings by getting 4 or more matching symbols in a connected cluster either vertically or horizontally, similar like Gemix, Viking Runecraft and the likes. When you get a win, the contributing symbols are removed with new symbols falling in to give you continuous wins. Wins stop once there are no more winning clusters.

Symbols on the reels include 4 different colored stones as well as skulls, rings, daggers and pendants. The highest paying symbols give you 100 times your stake for a cluster of 10 or more symbols. If Rich Wilde himself for part of a win, your combo is multiplied x2.

Every win will contribute to the charge Portal (to the left of the reels) which unlocks several bonus features. There are 4 stages on the portal that release 2 wilds randomly on the reels to create more wins. Look out for the eye mark symbol which randomly land on the reels. Should a winning combination land on the eye of mark, it creates 2 additional wild and makes winnings even easier. There is a special Abyss and Void effect that each has its own feature to clear the grid and at the same time help filling the Portal charge.

If you manage to fill the charge the bonus feature is triggered with a set amount of portal effects. You can win up to 7 portal effects. Portal Effects are triggered when no more wins can be achieved, and these include:

• Special Wilds – 4 special wilds are added to the grid
• Abyss – 4 special wilds are added. If a win is formed with any special wild, the Abyss portal effect feature is triggered
• Void – 4 special wilds are added. If you get a win with any special wild, the Void portal effect feature comes into play.

Twelve Eye Marks are visible in the feature and if you generate wins on each of those locations you can release the Mega Wild Cthulhu. This is where you start winning some serious cash especially if base game wilds lands on the reels giving you the multiplier. This slot is nice but extremely highly volatile from what I can see. A lot of empty spins and bonuses pay on average between x20 – x50 your stake. If you do not get he mega wild, then there is no Mega win unfortunately.
