If you are familiar with Playtech games, then you will know that this game Rome & Glory is identical to two other games in the same stable, namely Captain's Treasure Pro and Thai Paradise. The paytables are exactly alike, only the symbols are different. Hmm, cloning of games may be acceptable if done discreetly, but three of the same kind in one stable? One too many I would say! Presentation wise, Rome & Glory falls in between Captain's Treasure Pro and Thai Paradise. Its graphics look dated, with nothing looking good or outstanding at all, but at least they are a little better than for Thai Paradise. Amongst the three, Captain's Treasure Pro came out better.

This game is akin to The Book of Ra Deluxe, game play wise, but not payouts wise. I've had many plays on Rome & Glory, with only a few good runs, the rest being all hopelessly fruitless! Fruitless meaning no overall win in the end, just losses, in spite of getting a few of those free game bonuses. If the 10 free spins could give out a little bit more of retriggers, then things might have worked out better, but retriggers are hard to come by. If that is not bad enough, waiting for the next free spins game to come could take ages, sometimes ridiculously long, so far apart from one to another, making the game so boring at times. I've found myself falling off to sleep quite a number of times. Just couldn't keep my eyes open to watch the empty spins go by. Who wants to watch empty spins go by anyway, right?!

When I do get a good game, the symbols that would fill all the 15 grids were usually of the lower kind, you know, like the cups, the scrolls and the bag of coins. I have never seen or gotten any full Queens before, much less the Emperor himself. At best it would only be 4 full reels of them, which no doubt paid a good sum, but nothing like getting all full of them. My friend once, and only once, got the Captain on all 5 reels, for a whopper of a win, but that was on the game Captain's Treasure Pro. I've also heard of somebody getting that Thai lady on all 5 reels (Thai Paradise) but I've never heard of anyone getting all Emperors. Maybe the Emperor was too shy to come out, or maybe he was always too occupied with his queen. Whatever!

I'll only be repeating myself here, but what the heck. I don't like the way the free spins games are spaced, too far apart with too many empty spins in between, the retriggers are also so hard to come by, but when they do come, they hardly made much difference to the total payout amount. On top of all that, I have never won anything big that's worth mentioning! Rome & Glory doesn't quite come up to expectations.

Rome & Glory is one in a series of video slot games that have a Roman Empire theme. Somehow this game reminds me of another Playtech game called Gladiator. The games are different but they share almost identical scatter symbol. Both games have the symbol of the Roman Coliseum as a scatter symbol. No wonder because this building is one of the main symbols of Ancient Rome. The Colosseum is the most famous building and Julius Caesar is probably the most famous and the first emperor of the Roman Empire. That's why I'm not a little surprised that the symbol of Caesar pays the most in this game. In fact, 5 of these symbols on a single line pay 5000 x line bet.

From features, this game does not offer them much. Here you have only the free spins feature. The free spins can be reached with 3 or more scatter symbols anywhere on the screen. The scatter symbol here is also wild symbol. In the free spins feature randomly you get another wild symbol. In my opinion it would be good that this game has one more bonus feature, as now I like Rome & Glory less than let’s say the game Gladiator. There is another reason why the Rome & Glory is not my favorite Playtech game. I clearly remember on the last time I played this game that I have here a total of 4 x 50 automatic spins. Altogether 200 spins. A bit unbelievable fact is that in these 200 automatic spins I did not reach neither once the free spins bonus. So, in this game is quite difficult to reach the free spins. On the other side in most cases is worth when you get to the free spins. A few times I had here wins larger than 1000 x bet, but no matter what Rome & Glory will get from me at the end a positive rating. Admittedly, that will be the least positive rating.

For Rome & Glory I give 6 out of 10 possible stars

Rome&Glory is a slot game I visit from time to time whenever I am in some Playtech casino. The graphic and sound of the game are on a descent level, nothing too fancy but still pleasant to the eye.

This is a standard 20 payline 5 reel slot but it is just a little different from other Playtech slots because of it’s unique bonus feature and symbols. Here you have a scatter symbol which is the Coliseum and it is a wild symbol at the same time. Instead of a wild symbol you have two main high paying symbol. One is probably an emperor and 5 of them provides a 5 000 x bet win. The other is a roman woman and 5 of them awards you 2 000 x bet win. This a pretty descent payout but I have never seen 5 of these symbols on a winning payline. It really hurts when you see 5 of them on the reels but they are not on a payline. From the features this slot has only one and that is the free spins bonus. It is activated when you get 3 scatters/wilds anywhere on the reels. I have to say that sometime the free spins bonus is very hard to get. In one session I played over 300 spins before I got it and it paid peanuts, so this game can be a real balance killer sometimes. In the bonus features you get 10 free spins with and extra symbol which acts as scatter. If you get 3 or more of these symbols they expand to cover the reels and the payout can be big. If you get any of the main symbols even 2 of them in the bonus provides a descent win. By this feature the slot reminds me of Novamatic, Wazdan and Premium play slots because the bonuses have the same feature.

I play this game only for 2-300 spins max and if I don’t get some big wins I move on. The biggest wins come if the free spins are retrigerred but that rarely happens.
