Mad Hatters is Microgaming powered video slot with 5 reels and 30 pay-lines. This slot is inspired with the amazing story of Alice in Wonderland. The slot is pretty cheerful and colorful and the reels are big and cover up the whole screen so there is no background here. The reels are purple, and all symbols are theme-related. Before you set off to this adventure, you should set your bets. By clicking on "+/-" you will set coins size which ranges from 0.01 to 0.10, and "Select Coins" is used to set the number of coins per line that you wish to bet. "Select Lines" will help you set the number of lines to bet, and "Max Bet" is used to set the maximum bet available. "Spin" will set the reels in motion, and "Autoplay" option is used to turn the reels without interruption for a chosen number of times.
Wild symbol in the game is the Red Top hat, and if you land 5 of these on an active pay-line you will win 20000 coins. Red Top hat substitutes for all the symbols except the scatter and the bonus symbol. If the Wild lands on reel 3, it will expand to cover the whole reel
Cuckoo Clock is the Bonus symbol, and if you land 3 or more of these on adjacent reels, you will trigger the Cuckoo Bonus feature. Once triggered you will get to play a picking game where you will have to pick the triggering symbols in order to reveal your prizes.
Rabbit in the Hat is the Scatter and it can form scatter wins which are multiplied by the total bet. If you land 3 or more of these you will activate Free Spins feature, and the number of spins will depend on the number of scatter symbols. You can win 10, 25 or 50 spins. Also, before the spins start, you will get the chance to choose one extra wild that will appear during the feature.

If you're a Microgaming fan and you haven't played this Mad Hatters game before, then you must be kidding me. I'm not a fan, but I've played this game numerous of times, and a lot more times in the freeroll tournaments too. Back in those days, this game, along with games like Loaded and Ladies Nite, are frequently featured in the tournaments. Not so much nowadays, with newer games already taking over its place. High variance players would love this game, as it has potentials for huge wins, but I ain't one of them.
This game may be based on Alice in Wonderland, but Alice herself is missing. Hmm, maybe Alice was still at her home, not yet entered the Wonderland world, but never mind. Luckily too, this game isn't entitled Lucky Mad Hatters, or Cashalot Hatters, or even Wonderland Star, as a lot of the games tend to be entitled. Anyway, the Red Hat is the Wild symbol, 5 of which pays an incredible 20,000x the line bet, if you are damn lucky enough to get them. I couldn't even get 3 of them on any payline. If it appears anywhere on reel 3, it expands into a Wild Reel and awards 1 Respin. Other than that, it only does substitution of symbols, except for the Rabbit Scatter and the Cuckoo Clock Bonus symbols.
Getting 3, 4 or 5 adjacent Cuckoo Clock Bonus symbols award a Cuckoo Bonus pick-and-win game. Pick a clock to win cash prizes, up to a maximum of 45x the total bet amount. The Rabbit in the hat is the Scatter symbol, 5 of which pays a high 300x total bet amount, which is much higher than the usual 100x. 3, 4 or 5 of these Scatters trigger 10, 25 or 50 free spins with all wins doubled. You also get to pick one of the 3 Mad Hatters to be the Extra Wild symbol in the free spins game. More free spins cannot be retriggered. As for the rest of the symbols, they pay from 2000x the line bet to 100x the line bet for 5 of each kind. A very good paytable, with a high variance, so getting big wins may be very difficult but may be very rewarding indeed.
Well, playing a high variance game has its pros and cons. The Free Spins game are very difficult to come by, but can pay quite good, as far as my own games are concerned, with a 88x total bet win being my best. But still, that's not a lot is it? The Cuckoo Clock Bonus games didn't help at all, mostly paying 8x my bet amount, with 15x the highest, and nowhere near the possible maximum 45x win. As good as the game may be, with its good potentials, my games have not fared well enough for me to really like the game. Just too bad.
