Mad Hatters Slot Microgaming

Mad Hatters is Microgaming powered video slot with 5 reels and 30 pay-lines. This slot is inspired with the amazing story of Alice in Wonderland. The slot is pretty cheerful and colorful and the reels are big and cover up the whole screen so there is no background here. The reels are purple, and all symbols are theme-related.  Give this slot a spin for free on this page or visit Microgaming Casinos to play for real money.

Before you set off to this adventure, you should set your bets. By clicking on "+/-" you will set coins size which ranges from 0.01 to 0.10, and "Select Coins" is used to set the number of coins per line that you wish to bet. "Select Lines" will help you set the number of lines to bet, and "Max Bet" is used to set the maximum bet available. "Spin" will set the reels in motion, and "Autoplay" option is used to turn the reels without interruption for a chosen number of times.

Wild symbol in the game is the Red Top hat, and if you land 5 of these on an active pay-line you will win 20000 coins. Red Top hat substitutes for all the symbols except the scatter and the bonus symbol. If the Wild lands on reel 3, it will expand to cover the whole reel

Cuckoo Clock is the Bonus symbol, and if you land 3 or more of these on adjacent reels, you will trigger the Cuckoo Bonus feature. Once triggered you will get to play a picking game where you will have to pick the triggering symbols in order to reveal your prizes.

Rabbit in the Hat is the Scatter and it can form scatter wins which are multiplied by the total bet. If you land 3 or more of these you will activate Free Spins feature, and the number of spins will depend on the number of scatter symbols. You can win 10, 25 or 50 spins. Also, before the spins start, you will get the chance to choose one extra wild that will appear during the feature.

If you're a Microgaming fan and you haven't played this Mad Hatters game before, then you must be kidding me. I'm not a fan, but I've played this game numerous of times, and a lot more times in the freeroll tournaments too. Back in those days, this game, along with games like Loaded and Ladies Nite, are frequently featured in the tournaments. Not so much nowadays, with newer games already taking over its place. High variance players would love this game, as it has potentials for huge wins, but I ain't one of them.

This game may be based on Alice in Wonderland, but Alice herself is missing. Hmm, maybe Alice was still at her home, not yet entered the Wonderland world, but never mind. Luckily too, this game isn't entitled Lucky Mad Hatters, or Cashalot Hatters, or even Wonderland Star, as a lot of the games tend to be entitled. Anyway, the Red Hat is the Wild symbol, 5 of which pays an incredible 20,000x the line bet, if you are damn lucky enough to get them. I couldn't even get 3 of them on any payline. If it appears anywhere on reel 3, it expands into a Wild Reel and awards 1 Respin. Other than that, it only does substitution of symbols, except for the Rabbit Scatter and the Cuckoo Clock Bonus symbols.

Getting 3, 4 or 5 adjacent Cuckoo Clock Bonus symbols award a Cuckoo Bonus pick-and-win game. Pick a clock to win cash prizes, up to a maximum of 45x the total bet amount. The Rabbit in the hat is the Scatter symbol, 5 of which pays a high 300x total bet amount, which is much higher than the usual 100x. 3, 4 or 5 of these Scatters trigger 10, 25 or 50 free spins with all wins doubled. You also get to pick one of the 3 Mad Hatters to be the Extra Wild symbol in the free spins game. More free spins cannot be retriggered. As for the rest of the symbols, they pay from 2000x the line bet to 100x the line bet for 5 of each kind. A very good paytable, with a high variance, so getting big wins may be very difficult but may be very rewarding indeed.

Well, playing a high variance game has its pros and cons. The Free Spins game are very difficult to come by, but can pay quite good, as far as my own games are concerned, with a 88x total bet win being my best. But still, that's not a lot is it? The Cuckoo Clock Bonus games didn't help at all, mostly paying 8x my bet amount, with 15x the highest, and nowhere near the possible maximum 45x win. As good as the game may be, with its good potentials, my games have not fared well enough for me to really like the game. Just too bad.

I haven't played Mad Hatters for a while now, it used to feature in quite a lot of Microgaming slots tournaments but I haven't been playing anywhere near as many since Vegas Partner Lounge and DigiMedia pulled out of the UK market, taking a huge chunk of the best Microgaming download casinos with them.

The game does look a little dated now and the user interface gives away the games age straight away as Microgaming haven't used a standard button toolbar along the bottom edge of their slots for some time. I actually still quite like this style though - all of the options are clearly laid out, the one thing that annoys me about it is the fact they insist on hiding the autoplay options in the "expert" menu and it seems to be random as to whether your preference stays saved between sessions. Even the latest Microgaming slots sometimes do this though so it's in no way just an issue with Mad Hatters.

The game has some chunky payouts on offer, particularly as this is a 30 line slot which seems to be the magic number where many game developers choose to start lowering the top end of the paytable in favour of the more frequent and larger number of simultaneous winning possibilities that extra lines usually provide. As an example the payoff for a line of wilds is set at 20,000 coins and five scatters pays 300x stake as well as giving 50 free spins! Better yet these wins can be doubled during the free spins as well and you even get to choose an extra wild symbol for the duration of your bonus round.

The game has an extra feature called the "Cuckoo Clock", but it's basically just another dull Pick Me bonus round. You need to hit between three and five clock symbols on an active payline to start the bonus and you get more picks depending how many clocks trigger the feature. The maximum award is under 50x your bet but on larger stakes that might still represent a decent win.

Although the presentation is a tad extrovert and "wacky" for my tastes I have no doubt Mad Hatters will have been considered a great looking game in its time. It's still fun to play, and still offers plenty of opportunities to walk away with a big win. I don't know any other game quite like it and seeing it again today has definitely got me in the mood to start playing it again as there's loads of big hits I haven't managed to see yet!

Playing Mad Hatters will not get you anywhere. Especially if you play on min bet like me. The bonus is disappointing and the wins are ranging from x3 to x10 bet size, which is nothing if you play with a small amount of money. I even managed to hit 5 scatters and won 150 x bet size, but I have lost them too eventually.

This is well a created slot run by Microgaming software with a theme that comes from Alice in Wonderland. It is a 5 reel and 30 pay lines slot. The icons are very big and they take up all the space and for that reason there is nothing going on in the background. The sound effects are somewhere nice too. The cup cake, a cup of tea, various ice creams, a slice of cake and a teapot are all low paying symbols. The three cheerful looking characters with impressive hats are the symbols that will pay more if you land them on an active pay line. The red top hat is a wild and the cuckoo clock and the blue rabbit are scatters in this game.

The free spins feature is triggered in the following way. 3 rabbits will award you with 10 free spins, 4 rabbits will award you with 25 free spins and 5 rabbits will award you with amazing 50 free spins. Also one of the hat symbols is picked to function as an extra wild symbol in the bonus. If you get 3, 4 or 5 cuckoo clock symbols anywhere on the reels you will trigger the cuckoo bonus. Here you get to pick up to 3 clocks and each clock is hiding a coin value for you. There is also an expanding wild if the red top hat wild symbol lands on the third reel which gives more opportunities to win some cash.
