The latest quarterly telephone survey ordered by the United Kingdom Gambling Commission revealed that the overall participation in gambling activities and problem gambling rates have remained stable in statistical terms.

Problem Gambling Remains Stable

The telephone survey was conducted by Yonder Consulting on a sample of 4,018 participants, highlighting that the rate of general problem gambling has remained stable year-over-year at 0.3% during the period to September 2022.

When broken down between the male and female populations, problem gambling participation showed a 0.4% and 0.1% split, respectively.

Gambling participation among the 16-24-year-olds marked a sharp rise to 1.4%, increasing from 0.4% year-on-year; other age brackets have, meanwhile, remained stable, the UKGC said.

Regarding moderate risk gambling rates, the survey recorded an increase to 1.1% from 0.7% in the year to September 2021 among males, whereas among females, the figure nearly doubled, from 0.5% to 1.2%.

The low-risk rate declined from 1.9 to 1.8% year-on-year, the UKGC noted, with the 16-24, 35-44, 45-54 and over 65 age brackets all reporting increases. Meanwhile, the 25-34 and 55-64 demographics declined to 2.4% and 0.9%, respectively.

Finally, overall participation in gambling activity during the past four weeks in the year to September 2022 is said to have "remained statistically stable" at 44.1%, the UKGC reported.
