MGA Issues Warnings Regarding Unlicensed Operators

After noting that it is aware of "entities operating without an authorisation within Malta" that are "operating illegally," the Malta Gaming Authority has issued warnings about unlicensed operators.

Regulatory Requirements

As a result of the warning, the Authority has stated that it "informs the public that these entities are not duly authorised" to provide gaming services to any person in Malta.

Casinowin.bet, ThePokies.net, OlympusPlay.com, and Jbag888.com are just some of the 18 websites named in an MGA statement as violating regulatory requirements.

The warning went on to state that the operators were operating without a licence, in violation of Article 13 of the Gaming Act, which is in effect in Malta.

"The MGA would like to remind consumers not to utilise services provided by an entity until they have ascertained that the entity in question is authorised to provide such services by the MGA," the regulator said.

The gaming regulatory framework binds authorised persons to follow all applicable laws and regulations which protect players.

According to the report, "transactions with such entities are risky for consumers because their activities are unregulated and don't provide the necessary safeguards delineated under the framework."

Moving Forward

The MGA has recently begun a private consultation with its licensees about proposed changes to the Player Protection Directive. These changes would strengthen and clarify the existing framework.
