Kentucky to Launch Sports Betting on 7 September

Kentuckians were up for some refreshing news last week after Governor Andy Beshear signed off on emergency administrative regulations to govern sports betting in the country. The Bluegrass State is now looking at 7 September for the sports betting launch.

Sports Bettors Looking at 7 September for Official Launch

As of Tuesday, 11 July, race tracks and gaming facilities are invited to apply for a retail sportsbook permit with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission after Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear signed regulations on sports gambling in the state, opening the way for Kentuckians to start betting on sports in the Week 1 of the NFL season.

Many racetracks have already stated interest or announced agreements to welcome sports bettors on 7 September and online on 28 September, with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission allowing partnering with up to three online operators, in addition to hosting their on-site retail sportsbooks.

A Historic Day for the Bluegrass State

Dubbing the signature of regulations documents "a historic day," Governor Bashear added :

Bringing sports wagering to the state not only gives Kentuckians a much-anticipated new form of entertainment, but also brings money to the state to support pensions.

According to the newly signed regulations, the sports betting revenue will cover regulatory costs, with a percentage allocated to help fight problem gambling. The rest of the revenue would go to the state public pension system.

With less than 60 days to go live, Kentucky will be the 38th US state to allow sports betting.
