It’s Halloween night. You’re spinning your favourite Halloween slot, sipping your pumpkin spice latte and minding your own business. Then you hear it. A creak. A gust of cold air. Something that sounds suspiciously like a door opening on its own.
Did you leave a window open?
Before you can investigate, a long-haired figure emerges from the darkness. Pale face. Hair hanging over its eyes. Barely a sound as it glides towards you.
You’re frozen. Your heart is pounding. Your only thought is to get out of there.
And then… THUD!
The creature trips over absolutely nothing and lands face-first on your laptop.
You’re too terrified to look. Then comes a familiar voice from somewhere beneath all that hair.
LOOK! I WON!
On your screen, the symbols have lined up. The jackpot is flashing like a beacon from the underworld. The mysterious creature, meanwhile, is still sprawled across your keyboard.
You slowly turn your head. Oh. Of course.
Your demon is actually the old lady next door, who’s sleepwalking again and apparently has a lucky hand.
I must’ve forgotten to lock my door, son. Sorry about that.
You help her up, escort her home and make sure she’s safely tucked away for the night. Crisis averted. Laptop mostly intact. Jackpot still glowing in your mind.
You’re just about to head home when she calls after you:
So… are we splitting that jackpot or what?
Happy Halloween to you, too.
