Razor Returns Slot Overview

Push Gaming’s favourite shark is back for more underwater mayhem in the Razor Returns slot. The sequel to 2019’s popular Razor Shark is a 5-reel, 40 payline video slot that combines superb sound and visuals with some cracking features including free spins with a host of potential modifiers. These waters can be extremely choppy as this is a super high variance slot. The rewards can be huge though courtesy of a 100,000 x bet max win. With a 96.55% RTP rate, does this underwater sequel match the original? Find out in our deep dive Razor Returns review.

Razor Returns Details, RTP, Payout and Volatility

The Razor Returns slot is played on 5 reels, 5 rows and 40 fixed paylines. Create winning combinations by landing 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols or wilds from left to right on a payline starting from the leftmost reel.

You can dive into these shark-infested waters at bet levels of between $/£/€0.10 and $/£/€100 per spin. Click on the Coin icon above the Spin button then choose your stake. In some jurisdictions, there’s an opportunity to set Autoplay and Turbo Mode. This isn’t available if you’re playing in the UK though.

The Razor Returns RTP is 96.55% in most cases which is a much better than average figure. There’s also 95.4% and 94.49% RTP versions so try and play the one with the superior return to player rate. Check this by opening the Paytable at the online casinos you play at.

The volatility here is very high thought so be warned. Razor Returns comes with a great white shark sized max wins of 100,000 x your total bet. The max win probability is 1 in 397 million spins whilst its 1 in 27 million spins if using the Push Bets feature.

Razor Returns Theme, Audio and Symbols

If you’ve played Razor Shark, you’ll find plenty that’s familiar in the Razor Returns slot. The imagery is very similar in both games but the symbols are much sharper in the sequel.

Once again, we’re heading deep below the waves. Flanked by an array of colourful underwater plant life, the reels are made up of symbols with a nautical theme.

These include an anchor, compass, periscope and diving helmet. They’re joined by blue, green, pink and orange sharks. Best paying is the orange shark symbol which awards a 7.5 x bet payout for 5 in combination.

Joining the standard symbols is a Mechanical Great White Shark Wild and the Torpedo Scatter which can detonate the main bonus feature. Here’s what the paytable looks like.

  • Anchor: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.1, 0.2 or 0.8 x bet
  • Compass: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.1, 0.2 or 0.8 x bet
  • Periscope: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.1, 0.3 or 1 x bet
  • Diving Helmet: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.1, 0.3 or 1 x bet
  • Blue Shark: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.2, 0.7 or 2.5 x bet
  • Green Shark: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.3, 0.8 or 3 x bet
  • Pink Shark: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.5, 2 or 6 x bet
  • Orange Shark: 3, 4 or 5 = 0.6, 2.5 or 7.5 x bet
  • Wild: Substitutes for all paying symbols + pays up to 12.5 x bet
  • Scatter: 3+ in view triggers Free Spins feature

Razor Returns Mobile

The Razor Returns mobile version looks superb. The visuals are super sharp, even with the extra row added to the game engine compared to the original. You can play the game on iOS and Android tablets and smartphones as well as on desktop, laptops and MACs.

Razor Returns Bonus Features

If you like slot games that offer plenty of features, you’ve come to the right place with Razor Returns. There’s plenty going on here which keeps things nice and fresh. Highlights include mystery transforming symbols, nudging symbols, instant win prizes, multipliers and free spins. Let’s take a closer look.

Mystery Symbols

Special stacks of Mystery Symbols can appear in stacks of up to 5 symbols high. When they appear in either the base game or the free spins, they trigger the Nudge and Reveal feature.

Nudge and Reveal

The Mystery Symbols from the triggering spin transform into the new symbols. Symbols that can transform will be paying symbols, Wilds or Golden Shark symbols. Paying symbols deliver a standard payout if they form a winning combination. They then nudge down their reel, 1 position at a time on the spins that follow.

Razor Reveal

If the Mystery Symbols turn into Golden Sharks rather than standard paying symbols, you’ll bring the Razor Reveal feature into play. Each Golden Shark symbol on display then spins and reveals a prize. Here’s what they can deliver.

  • Instant Prize Symbols: These coins deliver payouts worth between 1 and 5,000 x bet.
  • Multiplier Symbols: These multipliers boost the payout by 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x.
  • Collector Symbols: The value of all other Instant Prize symbols is collected by the Collector Symbol which then transforms into an Instant Prize symbol. All Instant Prize symbols are removed from the game grid once they’ve been collected. Any empty reel positions will also spin through all of the possible prizes.
  • Convertor Symbols: When this symbols hits, 1 standard symbol is picked at random. All examples of this symbol appearing on the reels become Golden Shark symbols. This in turn triggers the Razor Reveal feature.

Free Spins

Land 3 or more Torpedo Scatters on the same spin (or via the Razor Reveal feature) to activate the Free Spins feature. The more triggering scatters, the better the multiplier to start the round: 3, 4 or 5 scatters will result in a 1x, 5x or 25x starting multiplier respectively.

You can also gamble and try and improve the value of the multiplier. If your gamble is unsuccessful, you won’t just lose your multiplier, you’ll lose all your free spins and return to the base game.

At the start of your free spins, reels 2 and 4 contain Mystery Symbols. These nudge 1 row at a time on each fee spin. Land a winning combination and the payout is boosted by the active multiplier. You won’t receive a set number of free spins here. Instead, the feature continues until all the Mystery Symbols have dropped off the bottom of the game grid.

Keep a special eye out for Nudge Up symbols during the free spins round. As their name suggests, the Mystery Stacks nudge up when these appear, in effect, adding extra free spins to your total.

Bonus Buy

This isn’t available to UK-based players but if you’re in another territory, you will have the chance to pay to trigger the Free Spins feature. There are 5 options with a variety of price tags and RTP rates attached:

  • 3 Torpedo Free Spins (with 1x starting multiplier): 106 x bet with a 96.27% RTP
  • 4 Torpedo Free Spins (with a 5x starting multiplier): 186 x bet with a 96.52% RTP
  • 5 Torpedo Free Spins (25x starting multiplier): 550 x bet with a 96.78% RTP
  • Random Free Spins (Random starting multiplier): 200 x bet with a 96.51% RTP
  • Razor Reveal (all 25 positions filled with Golden Sharks): 500 x bet with a 96.68% RTP

Push Bet

The Push Bet feature allows players to increase their stake per spin by 10%. In return, you’ll boost your chances of triggering the Free Spins feature.

Razor Returns Slot Verdict

Push Gaming has taken Razor Shark and made everything bigger and more outlandish in the Razor Returns slot. That’s true of both the design and gameplay.

There was little to complain about as far as the sound and visuals of the original were concerned but Razor Returns is ever better. There’s a beautiful, high-def look to all the imagery here which is superb. That’s even with an extra 5 symbols on display on each spin. It’s all very familiar but also completely fresh.

It’s a similar story with the gameplay. There was plenty going on in Razor Shark but there’s ever more variety in Razor Returns. The Free Spins feature is a corker thanks to the wealth of modifiers that can spice up the play. Bigger and bolder is also the order of the day when it comes to 100,000 x bet max wins too.

Add all that together and you have a terrific overall package. Push Gaming could have easily just gone through the motions in creating this sequel. Instead, they’ve created something really impressive. If you enjoyed Razor Shark, you’ll likely love Razor Returns.

DISLIKED

Metal Jaws Of Despair: The Art of Losing Gracefully In A Bonus!

Through the treacherous waters of Razor Returns, Push Gaming's latest attempt to separate me from my hard-earned cash faster than a great white separates seals from their blubber. This aquatic nightmare masquerading as a slot game is about as fun as a root canal performed by a drunken octopus.

My horrible experience with this fishy fiasco is just in. There I was, innocently spinning away on Winz casino, my $0.11 bets barely making a ripple in the deep ocean of slots. Little did I know I was about to be dragged into the underwater depths of joylessness faster than a fisherman baiting it's fishing rod for the fish!

The game lured me in with it's new entry and hollowed promises of big wins, like a neon humpback anglerfish in the depths. The generosity of this slot is as chose as a loan shark on collection day. Spin after spin, my balance kept sinking faster than the Titanic ship, with nary a win in sight.

But hold on, it gets better (or worse, depending on your perspective). I finally triggered the free spins feature. For a brief, shining moment, I thought I'd struck lost treasure. Or should I say, sunken treasure? Ha! How naive I was.

21 free spins total, a 12x multiplier still rising up and those mysterious seaweed stacks nudging down the reels like drunken jellyfish at an underwater rave. Promising but no catch! After all that build-up, after all those spins, after watching those multipliers climb very high what did I win?

Drumroll, please...(drums hitting repeatedly)

A big, fat, round, juicy... $0.00. That's right, folks. Zero! Not even enough to buy a single fish scale at the underwater flea market. I've seen more action in a pet goldfish bowl than I did during those free spins. Honestly, I had no reason to trigger a bonus that pays nothing! Really there's no point!

To add insult to injury, there wasn't even any extra seaweed to accompany my financial demise. I mean, come on! If I'm going to watch my balance get eaten alive, at least give me a decent win. Is that too much to ask?

In conclusion, if you're looking for a slot that'll settle your money for a disappearance faster than a magician's act, Razor Returns is the game for you. Though it's not a slot for me.

But if you're hoping for, oh I don't know, actual wins or even a smidgen of entertainment, you'd be better off throwing your money directly into the ocean. At least then you might get a thank you note from a grateful fish lol.

Do yourselves a favor and steer clear of this volatile maritime menace unless you have a very large bankroll, one that is in the thousands. There are plenty of other fish in the sea as they're all better than Razor Returns.

Save your money for a nice seafood dinner instead. At least then you'll have something to show for it besides a depleted balance and a bad aftertaste in your mouth.
