Competition is fierce when it comes to club football in Europe, with the top clubs in the world coming from the top five national championships of England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France. While it may not be the most popular football league in Europe, Belgian Pro League betting takes up a significant part of the bookmakers’ offering.
Belgian Pro League Format Overview
It was formed in 1895, meaning it is one of the oldest leagues around, with a long history behind it.
Anderlecht is by far the most successful club in its history, with 31 league titles, with Club Brugge next best with 19, which included winning the league in 2023/24.
A key year in the Belgian Pro League was 2009/2010 when significant changes were made to the league’s pre-existing format.
The first of those was a reduction in the number of teams from 18 to 16. Those 16 teams now play each other twice (home and away) during the regular season, between late July and April.
An even bigger difference to the previous format is that after April, the Top 6 from the regular season contest a round-robin playoff with teams carrying half their points from the regular season into the Championship playoff. The winner of that is crowned the Belgian champion.
Previously, that resulted in a place into the Champions League (CL) final qualifying round but with the CL competitions’ own change of format and expansion in 2024-25, the Championship play-off winners now go directly into the main Champions League competition. The runners-up go to the Third Qualifying Round of the CL.
The teams finishing third and fourth in the Championship playoff enter different qualifying stages of the Europa League.
From 2023 onwards, relegation is determined by the teams finishing between 13th and 16th also facing off in a playoff. The bottom two are relegated straight away to the Challenger Pro League, while the team finishing 14th plays the third-placed team from the Challenger Pro League for the right to remain in the top division.
How We Choose the Best Belgian Pro League Betting Sites
There is no shortage of online Belgian Pro League betting sites, which is hardly surprising because there are plenty of Belgian football betting fans eager to wager on their top domestic league, plus other punters from all around the world equally keen on betting on this entertaining and unpredictable league, as well.
Here are the criteria we at AskGamblers use to determine which we consider to be the best Belgian Pro League betting sites.
Bonuses and Promotions
All of the best sports betting sites will give you a welcome offer of sorts as a thank-you for choosing to open an account with them. These days they’re normally in the form of a deposit match bonus, or one or more free bets, which you can generally use for betting on the Belgian Pro League, or just about anything else you like.
The better the welcome offer in terms of the value of the free bet (or other bonus), the flexibility in terms of how you can use it and the lower the wagering requirements (hopefully none), the more likely the Jupiler Pro League betting site will be to attract new customers.
We also appreciate it when a sportsbook has further promos such as more free bets, Odds Boosts, money-back offers, reload bonuses, and extra payouts and/or insurance on accas.
Available Payment Methods
The general rule with football betting sites, as with any others, is the more payment options, the better.
But it’s also important that there is a good mix of different types of payment methods: debit cards, bank transfers, e-wallets, etc., so customers have plenty of choices and can select one or more that suit them.
Payment option staples like Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Neteller, and bank transfers are ‘musts’ these days, though we note the rising popularity of Google Pay, Apple Pay, and cryptocurrency.
It is a big plus if deposits and withdrawals are processed quickly and hopefully with no fees at all associated with them or very nominal ones.
Security
Security is probably not the first thing you think of when it comes to Belgian Pro League betting, but it’s imperative.
The sportsbook needs to be protected from cyberattacks by having all the necessary software in place that means you, your data and money are never under threat, especially when making transactions to and from the betting site.
Security also means the sportsbook is safe in other ways, such as holding a respectable betting licence, paying out on winning bets, and processing withdrawals without any fuss. It also has a good track record of treating customers fairly and ethically rather than taking advantage of them.

Useful Tips for Betting on Belgian Pro League
When it comes to football, history has a habit of repeating itself. Hence, a good starting point is to look at historical data for trends that suggest a particular team will perform in a particular way in the future, whether that’s over the course of the season as a whole, or in an individual match.
For example, despite not winning a Belgian Pro League since the playoff system was introduced in 2009, Standard Liege averages more points per game (1.63) in the Championship playoffs than any other team, bar Club Brugge (1.7). However, several other teams have gone on to win it, whereas Liege hasn’t.
With regards to betting on matches, you might want to narrow your stats-based research just to the previous season rather than going further back. Does a team score more goals when playing at home than away? Which teams had the most clean sheets in the previous season? Maybe those trends will continue in the next season, as well.
Team news, such as injuries, suspensions or absences for other reasons, could also be crucial. So, check online sports newspapers, sites focused on Belgian football or even the club’s own sites for information on this, as it could heavily affect a team’s chances.
