Euro 2024 Overview

Euro 2024 starts on 14 June and lasts until 14 July. The host of this year’s event will be Germany, unlike Euro 2020, which was hosted by 11 European countries. It is the 17th edition of the championship that first started in France in 1960. The format has changed significantly over the years, mainly regarding the number of teams in the final event. The current 24-team system was introduced in France in 2016.

Euro 2024 is organised by UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), just like the previous events, which is why it can also be found under the name UEFA Euro 2024. The group stage starts on 14 June and ends on 26 June, with the group winners and runner-ups qualifying for the knockout phase alongside the four best third-placed teams.

The semi-finals will be played in Munich and Dortmund on 9 and 10 July, respectively, and the final match will be played in Berlin on 14 July. European Championships are among the favourite sports betting events for punters across Europe and beyond, and we are looking at a real treat this summer.

Euro 2024 Groups

The national teams that qualified for the event were drawn into six groups of four teams, groups A to F, with the host traditionally opening the event on day one of the tournament. Each team will play each other before it’s decided who will progress to the knockout stage. This is what all groups look like:

  • Group A: Germany, Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland
  • Group B: Spain, Croatia, Italy and Albania
  • Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia and England
  • Group D: Poland, the Netherlands, Austria and France
  • Group E: Belgium, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine
  • Group F: Turkey, Georgia, Portugal and the Czech Republic

The draw was held on 2 December 2023, when all the matches were announced, alongside their kick-off times.

Previous European Championship Winners

From the first event held in 1960, when only four teams participated in the final tournament, and all the way to the 24 teams in 2024, winning the European championship has always been a matter of immense joy and pride. Let’s look at all the winners throughout these 64 years while we eagerly await the crowning of the next champion this year:

  • 1960: Soviet Union
  • 1964: Spain
  • 1968: Italy
  • 1972: West Germany
  • 1976: Czechoslovakia
  • 1980: West Germany
  • 1984: France
  • 1988: the Netherlands
  • 1992: Denmark
  • 1996: Germany
  • 2000: France
  • 2004: Greece
  • 2008: Spain
  • 2012: Spain
  • 2016: Portugal
  • 2020: Italy

Whether Euro 2024 will bring a new name to the list or one of the previous winners will add another trophy to their collection remains to be seen this July.

How We Rate Euro 2024 Betting Sites

If you are looking for a sportsbook to bet on Euro 2024, you have a selection of sites that offer Euro 2024 betting right on this page. We recommend that you read our reviews before choosing a sportsbook to sign up with because we explore various aspects that we find relevant when rating a sports betting site.

When it comes to rating the Euro 2024 betting sites, these are some of the most important criteria we look into:

  • Licence and security: The first requirement we have from a sports betting site is that it is licensed and secure, as we only list reliable sportsbooks on our website. Whether it’s the UK Gambling Commission, Malta Gaming Authority or even a Curacao iGaming licence, the sportsbook must provide its licensing details so we are certain that bettors are protected in case of any problems.
  • Odds and markets: Offering a vast choice of markets for UEFA Euro 2024 betting is a prerequisite for a sportsbook to be called one of the best for this competition. Apart from betting on the match or tournament winner, the sports betting site should also allow punters to bet on the number of goals, corners, cards, the correct score, and any other attractive markets. Providing better odds than the competition is crucial in the long run, which is why punters appreciate it when they can win just a little more every time.
  • Bonuses and promotions: Starting from the welcome bonus, promotions are something that attract and later retain customers at a sportsbook. Around the time when Euro 2024 betting is on, we appreciate when a sports betting site offers promotions created specifically for this competition, be it a welcome bonus, a free bet for existing customers or another type of promotion.
  • Betting features: In-play betting is as important for UEFA Euro 2024 betting as it is for any other huge sporting event. Opening games can bring a lot of surprises, especially depending on the shape the teams are in, so live betting allows punters to change their minds and their bets after certain developments in the event. Live streaming is also particularly popular for major events, and if the sportsbook allows Bet Builders on these matches, then it’s a huge bonus.
  • The overall user experience: We just love it when a website is responsive and easy to navigate, as it creates a seamless user experience. With so many odds available for each match, it’s incredibly easy to get lost in all those numbers. Also, when a customer encounters a problem on a betting site, they appreciate having a customer support agent there to help solve the issue.

Euro 2024 Betting Markets

One thing we know with certainty is that there is no lack of markets to bet on when it comes to betting for Euro 2024 before it kicks off. In-play markets will also be available once the matches actually begin, but let’s start with the outright markets available at the moment of writing this guide:

  • Euro 2024 Winner: If you want to try to predict the tournament winner, right now, the odds are in favour of England and France, closely followed by Germany, Spain and Portugal.
  • Group Winners: You can bet on teams you think will win each group at the odds available pre-tournament. Some group winners might be tougher to predict than others, and the odds will reflect that.
  • To Reach Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, or Final: If you are confident that a team will reach the later stages of the Euro 2024, you might want to place your bets and grab the odds that seem lucrative.

Another market available pre-torunament is the Top Goalscorer. If you have been following the action across Europe, including national championships and Euro qualifiers, you might feel confident in trying to guess who will score the most goals this summer. The odds are out, so pick your favourites to snatch some wins when the tournament ends.

Once the tournament begins, there will also be room for plenty of betting action. Single bets are common for pre-tournament markets, but if you wish to take part in all the action in one day and bet on all three matches during the group stage, accumulator bets are a good choice.

In-play markets will also become available on Euro 2024 betting sites when the tournament is underway, so you will get a chance to predict the match winner, who will score next, the number of cards, corner kicks, or whatever you enjoy betting on while the match is ongoing.

Euro 2024 Betting Sites

Euro 2024 Odds

The bookies have already decided on their favourites to win the groups and the entire competition, of course, and you can check the Euro 2024 odds on the online betting sites listed above. Those odds will likely change before the tournament starts, depending on the shape of key players and the team's results in pre-tournament, friendly matches.

If you wish to grab the odds that sportsbooks offer now, you probably shouldn’t hesitate, as they can change at any time, depending on developments in the pitch. If you think the odds can change to become more favourable for you, make sure to check them regularly so you don’t miss your chance.

At the moment, the bookies think that England and France are the biggest favourites to win the tournament, whereas France forward Kylian Mbappe is the favourite to be the top goalscorer, closely followed by England’s Harry Kane. Cristiano Ronaldo and Jude Bellingham are the third and fourth favourites for this award.

When you look at the odds for the Best Player of the Tournament, they are not so widely available, but the sportsbooks that offer this market consider the Frenchman Mbappe to be the favourite at odds 9.00, before Jude Bellingham, Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne, and Harry Kane, all sitting at odds 13.00.

UEFA Euro 2024 Bonuses and Promotions

Euro 2024 betting sites will launch their bonuses and promotions when we get closer to the beginning of the tournament. Bookies typically decide to increase the odds on certain players to be the top goalscorers (perhaps Bellingham will become their surprise favourite, or maybe Olivier Giroud) or some match-specific promotions.

Before and during the tournament, we can also expect some free bet offers that punters can use to bet on various Euro 2024 markets, either as a welcome bonus or a promotion for existing customers. Make sure to read the terms and conditions carefully to avoid being disqualified from using the promotion.

Euro 2024-specific welcome bonuses will pop up as we approach June 14, and using a bonus to test a new sportsbook is a tempting offer for every bettor. There will be plenty of betting bonuses around the Euro, so keep an eye out for them and choose the ones you like best.

Euro 2024 Betting Tips

If this is your first time betting on this UEFA tournament, but you have experience with football betting, the first step is to register an account with a reputable sportsbook that offers good odds and markets you enjoy betting on. If the odds sportsbooks offer on the outright markets seem good to you, consider placing your bet early, as it could be the most generous odds you’ll get.

If you think there is room for improvement and wish to take the risk, you could split your stake and invest half now and half later if that makes sense for your bets.

One of the best things you can do for your betting is actually watch the matches the national teams you wish to bet on play before the Euro, or at least follow their results. When the tournament starts, try to follow as much of the action as possible, especially if you know football and enjoy watching the game.

Betting on a favourite sounds like a safe bet, but one game can change everything in a tournament like this one, and surprises do happen, so if you know a lot about many teams, you can be one of those bettors who can sense a surprise and snatch a win on an upset.

Our advice is to claim the bonus offers you like best, use your knowledge of the sport and your betting strategy and enjoy the tournament.
