In a major announcement days ago, one of iGaming’s titans, Scientific Games, revealed that it will transform into Light & Wonder following a series of bold strategic moves in the past months.
The move comes after Scientific sold its lottery and sports betting businesses for a combined $7,2 billion, focusing solely on retail terminals and iGaming innovation, which will be marketed under the new name.
Introducing Light & Wonder to the World
According to Scientific Games, the idea behind the transformation is to become the leading cross-platform global game company that is focused on game creation and leveraging technology that enables a seamless player experience across platforms.
The deliberate cross-platform approach is intended to bring top-notch game franchises to players worldwide, the company said, including games in brick-and-mortar casinos, online and mobile, as well as both real money and free-to-play social gaming markets.
We are thrilled to introduce the world to Light & Wonder, a company that will build great games and franchises that offer players a seamless experience across platforms, said Light & Wonder Chief Executive Officer Barry Cottle.
Our powerful new strategy required a powerful new identity to distinguish us and our unique offerings and capabilities, Cottle noted.
The announcement comes after a series of bold strategic steps, including the divestiture of Scientific’s Lottery and Sports Betting Businesses, which the company sold for approximately $7.2 billion in late 2021.
The brand new identity, Light & Wonder, stems from the company’s strategic vision and key stakeholders’ input, the provider said in a press release.
New Website and Legal Name Change
Along with the transformation, the company announced the launch of a new website, bringing together iGaming and land-based casino products, technology and services. lnw.com is the new web address and it’s already live, featuring stunning and highly interactive web design, offering a look at games, platforms, systems, hardware, and player account management.
Until a legal name change is complete this spring, Light & Wonder will operate under an assumed name.
