5th Annual Safer Gambling Week Kicks Off

Organised by the Betting and Gaming Council, BACTA, and the Bingo Association, the 5th annual Safer Gambling Week kicked off on 17 October, running until the 23rd, with the goal to create a nationwide discussion surrounding responsible betting, both on and offline.

The event will feature an array of safer gambling messages online and in brick-and-mortar venues, showcasing the tools available for advice and support, such as time-outs and deposit limits.

Raising the Bar Further

Commenting on the start of the Safer Gambling Week 2022, Michael Dugher, Chief Executive of the BGC, described the rates of problem gambling as “low by international comparisons,” adding that “Safer Gambling Week is further evidence of the regulated industry’s determination to keep raising standards.”

“Safer Gambling Week is about showcasing safer gambling tools – like time-outs and deposit limits – that exist in the regulated industry to ensure that the millions of people who enjoy a regular flutter continue to do so in a safe and responsible environment,” Dugher noted.

The annual campaign builds upon the Safer Gambling Week 2021 when promotion and awareness of safer gambling tools led to a 17% increase compared to the previous four-week average.

Additionally, in 2021, social media reach hit 24.5 million, marking a 16% increase from the previous year.

The Betting and Gaming Council and its partners have set up a website dedicated to Safer Gambling Week, offering advice and resources for a wide array of stakeholders, such as parents, carers, Professionals, and resources aimed at the industry.
