Wheel of Fortune Megaways Slot Overview
IGT once again takes inspiration from a hit TV gameshow in the Wheel of Fortune Megaways slot. It’s not just a bog standard Megaways game either. The game shakes up the standard Megaways mechanic, especially during the free spins where the number of ways to win can get as high as 1 million. The other main feature highlight is the Wild Megastack which can turn up to 3 reels totally wild. Find out more about this flashy, volatile slot that has 82,700 x bet max wins in our full Wheel of Fortune Megaways review.
Wheel of Fortune Megaways Details, RTP, Payout and Volatility
The Wheel of Fortune Megaways slot is played on 6 reels and up to 117,649 ways to win. Randomly, the number of symbols that appear on each reel changes with each spin. The more symbols on display, the more chances to create a winning combination. For 117,649 ways to win, you need to see 7 symbols on each of the 6 reels.
Winning combinations are formed in the usual way for Megaways slots by landing the same matching symbols on 3 or more adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. You’ll only need 2 of the top paying ring symbols to land a prize.
Bets in Wheel of Fortune Megaways range from between $/£/€0.20 and $/£/€300 per spin. Use the green arrow buttons to the side of the reels to adjust your bet size. Bear in mind that the max bet at online casinos will vary substantially. Players outside the UK will likely be able to use the Autoplay feature. This allows you to set up to 50 auto spins as well as a win and loss stop limits. Click on the conjoined arrows above the spin button to use this.
The Wheel of Fortune Megaways RTP is 96.46% which is better than average. Very high volatility, the max win is a whopping 82,700 x your total bet. It’s one of the highest paying Megaways games as a result.
Wheel of Fortune Megaways Theme, Audio and Symbols
As you’d expect from a branded slot based on one of the most popular TV shows in the world, there’s bright, glossy look to the visuals in the Wheel of Fortune Megaways slot. With a game show theme, it’s all a bit flashy and in your face.
The setting is a neon-lit TV studio. The backing track sounds like the sort of thing you’d hear when a contestant is trying to think of their answer. You’ll hear blasts of the Wheel of Fortune theme song too.
On the reels, you’ll find A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 royals alongside rings, speedboats, cars and private jets. All in gold, naturally. Best paying is the diamond ring symbol which awards 25 x your total bet for 6 in combination.
There’s also a Wild symbol that substitutes for all the standard symbols in a winning combination. This appears on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 only. With a Wheel of Fortune Scatter and Expansion symbol that appears only during the free spins, here’s what the symbols pay out:
- 9: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.1, 0.15, 0.25 or 0.4 x bet
- 10: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 or 0.4 x bet
- J: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.15, 0.25, 0.4 or 0.5 x bet
- Q: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.15, 0.25, 0.4 or 0.6 x bet
- K: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.2, 0.3, 0.5 or 0.7 x bet
- A: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.2, 0.3, 0.5 or 0.7 x bet
- Sports Car: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 or 0.9 x bet
- Speedboat: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 or 1 x bet
- Private Jet: 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 0.5, 0.75, 1 or 2 x bet
- Diamond Ring: 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 = 2, 3, 5, 6.25 or 25 x bet
- Wild: Substitutes for all standard symbols
- Scatter: 3+ triggers Free Spins feature
- Expansion: Only appears during free spins
Wheel of Fortune Megaways Mobile
Wheel of Fortune Megaways is available to play on tablets and smartphones as well as desktop computers laptops and MACs. There are quite a lot of moving parts here, especially during the Free Spins feature. The visuals are up to the job in the mobile version, but this is something I preferred playing on a bigger screen.
Wheel of Fortune Megaways Bonus Features
Unlike some of the other slots in the Wheel of Fortune series, the range of extras in the Megaways version isn’t enormous. There’s still the potential for plenty of action though courtesy of the Wild Megastacks and free spins on expanded reels.
Wild Megastacks
In the base game, the Wild symbol can gain some magical properties. Instead of acting as a single symbol, it can randomly morph into a Wild Megastack and turn the whole reel wild. The TV host’s ‘beautiful assistant’ appears on these stacked symbols.
The Megaways mechanic means that the Wild Megastack is the equivalent of 7 standard wild symbols on that reel. Up to 3 Wild Megastacks can appear simultaneously on the same spin in the base game. Like standard wilds, the Wild Megastacks can land on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 but not reels 1 and 6.
Free Spins
Land 3 or more Wheel of Fortune Scatter symbols on the same spin to activate the Free Spins feature. The more scatters, the more free spins you’ll receive:
- 3 scatters = 12 free spins
- 4 scatters = 14 free spins
- 5 scatters = 16 free spins
- 6 scatters = 18 free spins
You’ll then spin the famous Wheel of Fortune wheel which determines how many active Megaways you’ll begin the free spins with (from 14,400 to 117,649 ways to win).
Look out for the Expansion symbol (the Wheel of Fortune logo). Whenever 1 of these appears, it’s replaced by 2 standard symbols which increases the number of symbols on that reel for the rest of the round.
Instead of the maximum of 7 symbols on each reel in the base game, the number of symbols on each reel during the free spins can get as high as 10. More symbols mean more active Megaways too. If you manage to get all 6 reels to display the maximum 10 symbols, you’ll have 1 million ways to win.
As well as boosting the number of Megaways, expanding a reel to its maximum 10 symbols also brings more free spins into play. Each reel that reaches 10 symbols delivers a retrigger. You’ll then spin a wheel. Depending on where the pointer stops, you’ll receive up to 12 more free spins. If you do this on each reel, there’s a maximum of 90 free spins available in total.
Just like in the base game, Wilds can transform into Wild Megastacks during the free spins. These can count as up to 10 symbols on fully expanded reels. It’s possible to land 2 Wild Megastacks on the same free spin.
Wheel of Fortune Megaways Slot Verdict
IGT Wheel of Fortune slots have been a real mixed bag in terms of quality. The Wheel of Fortune Megaways slot is among the best of the series. The design is nice and slick and the game is easy to play (which isn’t always the case in this franchise).
Additionally, the range of features stack up nicely too. The major issue I had was triggering them. I found the free spins with the expanding reels very difficult to trigger. That’s no real surprise given the extremely high volatility of this slot.
The expanded reels can make the free spins worth landing, just expect it to take some time. I’ve come to expect even more goodies attached to our free spins too but there weren’t any multipliers to sweeten the action here unfortunately.
It’s not the most innovative Megaways slot I’ve played but the potential 1 million ways to win and 82,700 x bet max wins make Wheel of Fortune Megaways worth a spin.
If you want more than the traditional 117,649 Megaways, I recommend you try Rasputin Megaways from Big Time Gaming. Based on Russian holy man/love machine, it has lots of bonus features including free spins with Extending Reels and increasing multipliers. It has a very high 96.68% RTP rate, 68,180 x bet max wins and up to 2,985,984 ways to win.
