Slot Features
Ankh is the Wild symbol that can sub in for any other symbol in a game to help form win combo. In addition to being the Wild, Ankh is also a Scatter that can form Scatter wins and trigger Bonus Free Spins round.
Free Spins
You will need at least 3 or more Ankh symbols to trigger the Free Spins round. Once triggered, you will get awarded with 8, 10, 12 or 15 spins, depending on the number of triggering Scatters, and if you land another 3 or more Ankh symbols, the feature will get retriggered.
Before the spins start, a random symbol will get chosen to be the Expanding symbol through the Free Spins. The Expanding Symbol chosen will be displayed above the reels in Free Spins, and if it happens to be Shai, the wins will get doubled when the symbols expands.
Gamble
After a win you can try and either double or quadruple that win in a Gamble round. If you choose to gamble, a dealer will draw a card, and your job is to try and guess either a card colour or card suit. Correct colour will double the wins, correct guess at suit will quadruple them, and wrong guess will take you back to the base game.
Summary
Secret of Dead is another “book of” look alike with high volatility and 96.20% RTP. Although it leans towards less innovation and more of a “tested recipe” it still deviates from the standard that we’ve seen in these type of slots, mostly due to the added 6th reel. Still, with the win potential of x10000 the bet makes this slot worth a couple of spins.
Secret of Dead is a slot that was released quite some time ago by one of my favorite providers- Play'n Go. I have to say, when I first heard of this game being launched, I wasn't necessarily excited to try it, for the simple reason it being another "book of" game. And I feel like nowadays there's already so many games like this, majority coming from Play'n Go, that it's just not exciting anymore. But since I do love Play'n Go, I thought to give it a try at least.
As you can tell by the name, the game is again inspired by their "Dead" series, hence the slot takes you to Ancient Egypt, which is very common for the book type of slots. The only thing I do find interesting about this game is the fact that instead of 5 reels and 10 paylines, Secret of Dead is a 10 payline slot with 6 reels.
If I'm being honest, the base game isn't too exciting. You have a wild symbol that is also a scatter symbol and 3 or more trigger free spins bonus round. Other than that, you have your high paying and low paying symbols, but no other base game feature. So the base game itself I don't find exciting.
Then, once you trigger the free spins, you get 8 free spins with a selected symbol that expands, which again is very typical to these kinds of slots. If you do get 3 or more scatters, you get 5 more free spins and another symbol is selected as a special symbol, which is similar to Legacy of Dead. I have had the free spins on this game many times and only once managed to get another expanding symbol, but it ended up with a less than 100x bet win anyway.
Overall I find Secret of Dead to be a mediocre game, it's not bad but it's definitely not unique. I do like the fact that there are 6 reels instead of 5 and that you can get more expanding symbols in the free spins. But having said that, the payouts are quite average. I've had a few wins over 100x bet, but on average the bonus pays anywhere from 20x-40x. If I have to compare it to other Play'n Go games with similar features, I prefer Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead instead of this game, but if you're low rolling, it's not a bad option due to the minimum bets being only 10 cents.
