Sails of Gold slot is a 10-payline video slot, powered by Play’n GO software provider. The game features colourful symbols that are inspired by the voyage of Christopher Columbus. There are 5 paper-like reels set against the beautiful sunset backdrop. Players are welcome to try Sails of Gold slot for free here on our page, or visit any of the Play’n GO Casinos listed below to play for real money.
Before you join Christopher Columbus and start exploring, you are advised to regulate your bets first. There are up to 10 “Lines” players can bet on. Coin value ranges from 0.01 to 1, while the number of coins varies from 1 to 5. “Autoplay” sets the reels in motion without interruption for the chosen number of times. Once you are ready, hit “Spin” and start the game.
The Wild is the Christopher Columbus himself. The Wild card acts as a replacement for all symbols, with the exception of the Scatter. The Scatter is the ship. Once players land 3 Scatters simultaneously, in any position on the reels, 10 Free Spins will be initiated.
The Golden Ship is the Bonus symbol which may occur during the Free Spins feature. Once it does, it will act as the Wild card and substitute for all other symbols. If you manage to land 3 Bonus symbols anywhere on the reels simultaneously, you will receive the additional 10 Free Spins. You may win up to 250000 coins.

Another decent ten line game from Play N Go, quite similar to their game "Golden Caravan" overall but that isn't such a bad thing as this game shares the same maximum 5,000x stake maximum win which is always a prize worth playing for. I prefer the graphics in this game too, everything is drawn in gorgeous high resolution and the colours really stand out in this game too. It's not THE most beautiful slot game I have played and the symbols could surely be more interesting but for the given theme I don't really see how any provider could really improve on the visuals offered here.
Games with nine or ten lines very often have the best paytables and that is also the case here - the top paying symbol returns 100x your stake for a five of a kind, with 50x and 25x offered for the next two symbols down which is a much nicer gradual slope than the paytables offered in games by Thunderkick for example. I don't feel as if there is only one symbol I am interested in when I play this game which I see as being a definite plus.
During the free spins the scatter symbol is converted into an additional wild, but it can still award retriggers as well. I really love it when scatters also act as wilds and even just getting this feature during the free spins really improves this game for me. A full line of wilds also pays 5,000 coins too and achieving this is so much more likely with the extra wilds added to the reels which makes the free spins all the more exciting.
Overall this is really quite a basic machine but thanks to its single spin jackpot it's one that I'd definitely consider playing for a decent part of any gaming session and even though it's getting on a little bit now I think I do prefer this game over some of Play N Go's more recent efforts which have also been very respectable machines in their own right. If your not too fussed about the theme of your games (or if you just have a thing for historic looking naval themed games...?) then this is definitely worth checking out.
As with the majority of Play N Go slots the bonus symbol appears only on reels 1, 3 and 5, and it often seems as if at least one of these will appear on every single spin. This can be quite frustrating at times because the ships will block other winning combinations and the frequency of you landing one or two of these onscreen really does not some to tally with your chances of actually landing all three to trigger the free spins bonus.
