Leprechaun Hills Slot

"Go over them hills yonder and you'll come to a very special place. Old folks called it Leprechaun Hills. Many Leprechauns are believed to be around there, so perhaps you'll find their pot of gold one day". Yeah, right! No Leprechaun has been that good to me all these years, so I'm not expecting this offering from Quickspin to be any different. Moreover, Quickspin games have yet to make a hit with me, unlike Play'nGo for example, which became one of my favourite providers soon enough.

Leprechaun Hills play with 40 paylines, with a 5-reels 4-rows play area (argh!) and with a minimum starting bet per spin of 0.24 EUR. This 5-reels 4-rows format is not to my liking, perhaps not ever. For a new game, the graphics leaves much to be desired. The game doesn't look new at all but looking rather dated. The colours and icons aren't vibrant either. Not a good one from Quickspin this time around, sorry to say. The Wild symbol in the game does not pay anything for itself, does not double any wins with it, but is stacked on all reels, and substitutes for other symbols except for the Scatter symbol. The Pot is the Scatter symbol, has the word 'Bonus' on it, so you won't miss it. It's another dumb symbol that doesn't pay anything for itself, appearing only on reels 2, 3 and 4, and getting these 3 symbols trigger 7 free spins, which if I'm not mistaken, can be retriggered. During the free spins, the Rainbow is a stacked Mystery symbol, which can transform into any Medium symbol, but cannot become a Wild symbol. The stacked Rainbow symbols only appear during the free spins, but all other symbols are also stacked on the reels. However, I don't think it's possible to get 20-of-a-kind win in this game. The paytable doesn't show it.

As for the other symbols in the game, the Leprechaun pays a low 25x total bet for getting 5 of them, followed by the Horseshoe and the Clover at 10x each, then the Mushroom and the Stout at 5x each, whilst the rest pay from 1.875x to 1.5x the total bet for getting 5 of each kind. A very low paytable, relying purely on getting lots of that Mystery symbols to generate the good wins. Also, any winning combination of 3 or more Medium symbols trigger a Lucky Respin, but this can only happen in the base game, and not during the free spins. What a waste and a shame! Too bad.

My one and only play on Leprechaun Hills wasn't good at all. Any game that uses a 5-reels 4-rows format would not find me playing it regularly, so one or two plays may be all that such games may get from me. In that one session, I did get 2 Free Spins games and several Lucky Respins, but none of them came out good. My best win was only 44x my bet amount from one of the Free Spins game, with the Rainbow symbols creating the win. Everything else was nothing to shout about, so Leprechaun Hills is nothing to shout about either.

This week I saw some screenshots showing some big wins achieved by a player in “Leprechaun Hills” slot, so, moved by curiosity, today I decided to do a few spins on this, the most recent game of “Quickspin” released in the present month of March, and this is what I could observe:

This slot has a structure of 5 x 4 reels, it is provided with 40 pay lines, and additionally, all the ordinary symbols appear stacked, and this also includes the wild symbol, which is a feature quite common in this type of slots.

What does not seem to be so common is the “Lucky Respin” feature which gives us an additional spin whenever we can form at least one line with some best-paid symbols in the game, i.e. those represented with symbols other than letters and numbers.

During this respin, the machine adds more symbols identical to the one with which we succeeded in forming that line, this in order to increase our chances of obtaining a big win by forming many lines simultaneously with that same symbol.

I think this last feature is cool; however, the trophy is for “Rainbow Free Spins” feature which gives 7 free games with the mysterious symbol represented with the rainbow that usually appears stacked and then becomes any of the best-paid symbols.

Precisely, my best big wins have come by this means, being my two best payouts, one of 32x and another of 101x my total bet, not negligible numbers at all, and it is even possible to get better results during this round of free spins if Lady Luck sits closer to you while you're playing.

It is normal to have some streaks of non-winning spins during the base game, but I think the features make this a potentially lucrative game, and I think it can be said that “Leprechaun Hills” is a slot with an acceptable risk-benefit relation, and I think it's worth trying it out; in addition, there is always the possibility that you have a little fun in the process.
