Before you set on a treasure hunt with Hugo, you are advised to adjust your bets. By clicking on numbers on the "Quick Betting Panel" you can set coin size which ranges from 0.01 to 10. "Spin" button is used to set the reels in motion, and "Auto Play" option will turn the reels automatically without interruption for a chosen number of times.
Hugo himself is the Wild symbol in the game which can substitute all symbols in the game apart from the Scatter. Wild can also form winning combos when you land 3 or more of them on an active payline.
Afskylia is the Scatter symbol and if you land 3 or more of these anywhere on the reels you will trigger the bonus game. You can get 1, 2 or 3 lives depending on the number of symbols that triggered the feature. Once triggered, you will get into a mine cart and you need to navigate through the dangerous Skull Cavern. If you reach the end, then stand to multiply your wins by up to 5.
If you can get 3 or more Beavers on the reels, you will trigger Troll Race bonus round where you will be awarded with 10 spins. Within this bonus feature there are additional 3 sub-features: Beaver Cleaver, Hugo, Hugo, Hugo, and Treasure Hunt.
Beaver Cleaver is randomly triggered and can award up to 5 additional spins. If you trigger it 3 times, you will enter the Skull Cavern bonus round and get awarded with 3 lives. Hugo, Hugo, Hugo feature offers you the chance to win up to 2 bags to collect on each spin. When you collect 4 or more bags, 4 Wilds will be added to the reels. I don't really like the look of this game, have never been a fan of Hugo in past time... but it's still been fun playing Hugo 2. And it's nice to be able to start with as low as 0.10/spin. I've only tried the original Hugo slot once but that was no fun, 2 is way better.
You get a 5-reel gameplay with 10 paylines, wilds, a bonus game and free spins with a chance to get to the top of the mountain and a feature game. I've played this a few sessions and managed to get to top tier 2 out of 3 times and also got the bonus game 2 times with decent payouts. After clearing the complete run after free spins (10+5+5) you get the feature game and this is pick'n click game to get to the end, and you have 3 times to miss before you're gone. I'm not a fan of pick'n click games, too frustrating when you hit the dud in the early stage and don't get any big wins. But here you can miss and still get pretty far. If you hit the bonus game in regular gameplay I believe you only get 1 life.
Anyhow, it's a likeable slot with easy free spins (so far anyway) and decent payouts.
