If any one of the readers of AskGamblers pages had the curiosity to follow all my reviews here, he learned that on the first 3 positions of the top of best slots I ever played there are 3 classic Microgaming slots: “Jamaican-a-Fortune”, “Bundle in the Jungle” and “Thor Blimey”. All these slots have just (1 line x 3 reels) and they resemble the real slots machines from my childhood (40 years ago), which had 1000 sparkling lights and brought as many additional features and possibilities of winning. But unfortunately, for the slots mentioned above it is almost impossible to find and play them in a “standard” Microgaming casino, where video slots are the kings and queens of the front page.
Yesterday, skimming through the pile of classic slots present here at AskGamblers, I came across a different classic slot “Golden Goals” that looks very much alike the 3 slots above and that deserves all the attention. The slot is so good that I lost more than a day playing it and enjoying its beauty. Although the winning possibilities are fewer here (than playing the previous 3 slots), their number is still impressive and each of these features brings something new with it.
At the first look the slot is a standard (5x3) reels, having 20 paylines and classic symbols (plus a scatter “Golden Goals”). Wins brought by simple combinations of symbols (“3-5 of a kind”) are relatively modest, but about once every 5-10 spins the slot awards the player with one of its features that brings more than important sums of money.
First feature, the “Trail Bonus” that is advancing a light on a scale to the left of the slot, seemed to me to be triggered randomly (yet, I am not fully convinced). The win is 10-30x line bet. Second feature, “Go for goal”, is triggered when the light of the “Trail Bonus” reaches the top of the scale. Now you can earn between 40 and 10000x (generally 100-250x) line bet, and the bonus can be started sometimes over again 2-3 times (so a total win of about 300-450x). The last feature, “Golden Goal” bonus offers a random number of Free Spins on a separate slot where each and every spin is a winner (the total win is about 700-1500x). Now sit down and make a count: if you are awarded one of these features say at each 10 normal spins and you win between 10-1500x bet, how much money you will pocket?
To fully describe here all these features I would probably have to write a few full pages. You need to play the game for its pure beauty. In addition also the wins are important: for the minimum bet (20 cents / spin), this slot never let me lose more than 2 Euro and I won enough extra money.
It is too bad that these slots are so rarely found in Microgaming casinos. Even if it is not of maximum rating, Golden Goals definitely gets 9 “stars” from me.
