Frozen Diamonds is the latest video slot game from Microgaming that I have played. It seems that this slot is perfect for this time of the year. I would definitely not play this chilly slot during the summer time.

Frozen Diamonds is a 5 reels and 20 pay lines video slot game. I had a really nice session playing this slot. To be honest I started with only 10 euros on my balance so I was not expecting anything to happen. I thought I will try something new, I will play for a while and no matter what happens I will not get angry. To be truthful I thought that I will lose my money very fast. So I started placing min bets on the Frozen Diamonds video slot game and in 5 spins I managed to get 20 euors. I was getting five of a kind wins and I started to feel the adrenaline pretty soon. This was all happening thanks to the tumbling reel, because every time I was landing a win all those symbols that were part of the winning combination disappear and new ones replace them.

This game is powered with only one special feature besides the tumbling reels and that is the free spins round. After 3 successful tumbling reels the free spins are activated. You would be surprised how often that happens in this game. You can get 5 or 10 free spins and this free spins are rewarded randomly. The wins are not mind blowing I must say, I never won more than 30 x bet but the thing is that they come regularly. So at the end I had a feeling that all the time I was having free spins and getting rewards for that.

Frozen Diamonds turns out to be a great game so I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I cannot recall if I've ever seen any of Microgaming games that uses frozen icons before, have you? This newly released Frozen Diamonds game looks different from the usual and looks kinda cool too. Well, it should be cool, or else it wouldn't be frozen, right? I've seen games from other game providers that uses similar frozen icons and symbols, but this is probably the first from Microgaming. I may be wrong, but what the heck, it isn't that important after all.

The Wild symbol pays 50x the total bet amount, replaces and substitutes for all other symbols, because there aren't any Scatter or Bonus symbols in this game, but is nonetheless a dumb symbol. No doubling of any wins, no expanding, no nothing. No Scatters also mean no additional wins. Now that is not a good thing. The Red Diamond in ice pays 50x the total bet, the Green Gem 30x, the Reddish Gem 20x, the purplish Gem 15x, and all the other lower symbols pay from 3x down to 1.75x, all per total bet amount for 5 of each kind. Hmm. Need I even say that this paytable sucks! It is just damn blardy low!

So, without any Scatters or Bonus symbols, how are the Free Spins activated, you may ask? Good question. On the left side of the play area, there's a special 3-tiered meter that looks like an 'onion plant'. Every win fills one part of the meter. Get 3 successive wins in a row and the meter becomes full, awarding 5 or 10 free spins randomly. During the free spins, the first spin itself have random Wilds on reel 2 or 3, and every third successive win awards 1 Extra Spin, indicated at the top of the 'onion plant'. All collected Extra Spins are automatically activated after the last free spin has been played.

Having said all that, the initial interesting look of Frozen Diamonds failed to impress me. The gameplay may be a little different from any other usual game, but the paytable lacks punches for nice good wins, giving out mostly very small and mediocre payouts which don't excite at all. Expectations for huge wins may even be out of the question. Ah well, this new Frozen Diamonds game is yet another attempt by Microgaming that couldn't live up to players high expectations.

Frozen Diamonds is one of Microgamings latest releases and sports a super modern user interface, great graphics, and intricate animations. Because of this you'll need to have a decently specced machine particularly with regards to graphics to play the browser based version of this game quickly and smoothly although as ever the download casino version seems to work well even on slower devices.

The game uses frozen symbols melting to represent "rolling reels" in the style of Break Away or Gonzos Quest. The presentation looks original but the concept is nothing we haven't seen dozens of times before. I was lucky enough to hit the freespins on my very first go and watched keenly as the "Big Win" animation popped up again and again as wilds just kept on dropping into view on the middle reel. I felt pretty disappointed when even after being awarded an additional six free spins my final total was just 80x my bet! I really wish slot designers would stop referring to 10x bet as being something special as its really nothing out of the ordinary to see ten dead spins in a row - why should I be excited to win ten bets back?

After a couple of hundred spins I checked out the paytable which explained the logic behind all those wilds on the centre reel as well as the extra spins I received - turns out I really wasn't so lucky afterall and both these things can be expected to happen pretty much every time you hit the feature - nevertheless I still felt the game had made a whole lot of fuss about nothing!

I always like to check out Microgamings new releases straight away as they produce a large number of my favourite slots. It's nice to see an original production from them rather than just another clone of one of their older machines, but there's nothing particularly exciting about Frozen Diamonds and infact it really doesn't look or feel like a Microgaming slot at all. Fun, but not fantastic overall.
