Book of Golden Sands is one of the newest game releases from Pragmatic Play. I've been enjoying many of the latest Pragmatic Play games and I generally like book slots, so I was curious to try this game out.

The game itself is inspired by the Ancient Egypt theme, as it often goes with Book Of slots. However, instead of the regular 5 reels, Book of Sands offers 6 reels, 3 rows, a wild symbol and 729 ways to win. I'll be honest, I find the base game a bit boring. You have the low paying symbols, high paying symbols, a scatter and also a wild symbol. Having said that, to get any big base game wins, you need a 6oak combination of low value symbols or a good win with premiums. I personally haven't had a win above 30x mark on base game alone.

As it almost always goes, the game also offers a free spins bonus round which is either triggered by 3 or more book scatters or you can buy it for 100x your bet. Then you get 10 free spins with one special expanding symbol. However, the free spins come with a twist. On each reel there's a little meter, which counts your expanding symbols. Every time you get enough symbols for expansion, the meter will fill with the symbol you've collected. And if you get another expansion, the collected symbols will be added to your win, increasing the ways to win. While in theory it sounds great, in my experience the payouts are rather low. And even though usually you'd expect to get a lot of expansions with low paying symbols as your special symbols, the bonus round can be very volatile. On more occasions than not, I've not managed to get a win over 30x from free spins. Only once I managed to get a win above 100x bet when I had 3 reels split into more ways to win.

Overall I had good hopes for this game as it offers the classic book of game with a twist. But the payouts I've experienced are quite low, the bonus round seems very volatile and I find the base game a bit boring.
