It is said to be the oldest poem in Old English, about a man named Beowulf who became a hero! The story is set in pagan Scandinavia in the 6th century. Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, comes to the aid of Hrothgar, the king of the Danes, whose mead hall in Heorot has been under attack by the monster Grendel.

After 'Beowulf' slays him, Grendel's mother attacks the hall and is then defeated. Victorious, 'Beowulf' goes home to Götaland and becomes king of the Geats. Fifty years later, 'Beowulf' defeats a Dragon, but is mortally wounded in the battle. After his death, his attendants Cremate his body and erect a Tower on a Headland in his Memory.

I was inspired by a member's winning screenshot on this Pragmatic Play Beowulf game. He got all 5 Wild Reels of Beowulf, and won himself an handsome win. The graphics used in this game are of standard acceptable quality, nothing outstanding, but could be better with bigger and more prominent icons. Currently, they are too small for good visual impact. Another good thing about this game is that the keyboard's 'Space' and 'Enter' keys can be used to start and stop the spins, not available in other current games, except in old games of yesteryears. I don't use them anyway, so it makes no difference to me.

Beowulf, the Wild symbol, pays 2500x the line bet for getting 5 of them, it doesn't double wins with it, but does come stacked on reel 1 in the base game, and stacked on all reels during the Super Respins Feature game. It also substitutes for other symbols except for the Scatter symbol, and pays both ways with winning combinations. If a fully stacked Beowulf Wild symbol appears on reel 1, 3 Respins are awarded, during which, only Beowulf and blank symbols can appear. As for the other symbols in the game, the Queen pays 1500x, the King pays 800x, the Ship pays 500x, the Horn pays 400x, the Ring pays 300x, and the others pay from 200x to 50x, all per line bet for getting 5 of each kind. A low paytable but acceptable for a 5-reels 4-rows game.

After playing Beowulf a few times, I'm still not quite impressed with the game. Mainly because the Free Spins games paid rather poorly for me, awarding wins of between 1x up to 39x total bet amount, still far from being impressive. The Super Respins, on the other hand, did give better wins of up to 175x so far, with the best wins yet to be won and seen, but this is easier said than done. Just as with Play'nGo games, Beowulf can suddenly pay big, or simply go cold and eat big. The lucky players may love this game, but others may hate it. I'm still caught in-between.

I think this is the best feature this game has as it comes up very often and each time it gave me a win of 10x bet and up to 30x bet. Not a lot but since it is a frequent feature, it can still keep your balance steady.

The other feature this game has, I really dislike and it is a free spins bonus. I usually love free spins as they mostly have the biggest win potential, but this is definitely not the case. First of all I find them very hard to trigger- it took me several hundreds of spins to trigger my first feature and it is not even worth waiting for- for 3 or more scatters you get 10 and up to 20 free spins but they have no extra feature- no multiplier, no extra wild, just nothing. And having this feature several times not one I have had a win worth 10x bet and that's simply sad.

Overall this is a game I wouldn't really recommend. The design is nice and they have done a good job with the re spin feature, but other than that this game is just average. I don't think that you can win big on this game and the free spins bonus is pure disappointment.
