Beat the Beast: Quetzalcoatl’s Trial slot is based on the feathered serpent deity from ancient Mesoamerican culture. This slot features an Aztec theme and is set deep in the jungle with an ancient Aztec temple in the backdrop.
The game features 5-reels, 3 rows, and 9 fixed paylines, and is the fourth installment in the Beat the Beast series. The main focus on this slot is the bonus game feature where wilds give you orbs. These then fill meters up which transforms the mid-value symbols into the next paying symbol. You will get extra free spins on every symbol upgrade up until you unleash the beast symbol.
Symbols on the reels include the low-paying symbols which are your standard A, K, Q, J, and 10 royals. The high-paying symbols consist of cups, axes, crowns, and the Quetzalcoatl statuette. The Quetzalcoatl statuette symbol is the most rewarding and pays you 250x stake for 5 in combination. The Quetzalcoatl Emblem count as the wild and scatter symbol and this symbol substitute for every other symbol whether its in the base or free spins feature. Land 3, 4, or 5 Quetzalcoatl Emblem symbols to get a 2, 20, or 200x stake prize and at the same time trigger the bonus feature.
The bonus game consists of a 5 level round of free spins which also sees a green wild symbol come into play. It’s your job to collect these wild symbols whenever they land which then moves you up to the next level. Once you have collected 5 wilds, then the lowest symbol that is currently in play will be upgraded to the next mid win symbol on the paytable.
This slot is extremely highly volatile, but one would expect the max win of x5555 your total bet to be a bit more in all honesty. As you can imagine, looking at the bonus feature, it seems pretty easy to progress but for most bonuses pays around 20 – 70x your total bet. I won at most x300 even during final stage, but those premium symbols do not line for decent wins.

Beat the Beast: Quetzalcoatl's Trial is a slot game from Thunderkick game provider that was released a while back. I was quite interested in trying this game out due to the fact that it's a part of their Beat the Beast series slots, and I quite like them. But as my experience shows, all of the Beat the beast series slots from Thunderkick have good features yet are very highly volatile games. And Quetzalcoatl's Trial is no exception.
First of all, I have to say that the name of this game is very complicated and I'm not entirely sure what it stands for. But speaking of the game design, the slot is set in an ancient looking temple and the color-scheme is nice and vibrant. The game has 5 reels and 9 paylines yet the minimum bet starts at 10 cents. I always play this game with minimum bets as it can be very volatile and eat up a lot of your balance without giving any good wins.
Speaking of the features, the game has scatter symbols that also works as a wild and then there's a free spins bonus round. I have to say that the base game isn't too exciting- there's no base game feature and the game can easily give lots of empty spins in a row. But once you get 3 or more scatters, you'll get 10 free spins.
I really like the free spins feature as it has several interesting elements. First of all, in the bonus round you ladn stacked wilds and it's quite important. Reason for that being the symbol upgrade feature.Every time you land a wild, it will go towards the wild collection meter- and once you've collected 5 wilds, one of the lower paying premium symbols will upgrade to the next premium symbol. This feature really reminds me of Pink Elephants slot and I do enjoy it. Also, once you upgrade, you also get 2 extra spins. There's altogether 5 upgrade levels but it's quite difficult to get there. I haven't got past the 3rd symbol upgrade, yet with wilds and premiums you can still land a decent win. My best win from the free spins round has been around 250x bet, but unfortunately most of the time I can barely get to a 50x win.
Overall I do like this game and I like the Beat the Beast series slots- they're one of my go-to games from Thunderkick and in theory they have very good winning potential. However, I personally feel like this game is very volatile- I've had numerous sessions where I've lost my balance playing this slot with minimum bets and not trigger a single free spins feature. But I like the bonsu feature as it has a chase element and I keep waiting to get to the last upgrade level, which is when there's more winning potential. All in all, I like this game, but I would recommend being careful with it as it's very volatile.
