A Dragon's Story is NextGen software powered video slot with 5 reels and 25 pay-lines inspired with dragons. Their lair is filled with gold and the dragon is guarding it, and if you manage to retrieve it you will end up being rich. The slot is colorful and cartoony-looking. The reels are transparent and set against the backdrop of nature with a bunch of golden coins lying around. Before you enter the dragon’s den, you are advised to set your betting range. By clicking on "Up/Down Arrows" you will set coins size which ranges from 0.01 to 2. By clicking on "Stones" above the arrows you will set the maximum bet. "Play" treasure chest is used to set the reels in motion on a current bet, and "Autoplay" is used to turn the reels without interruption for a certain number of times. "Hearts & Clubs" button appears after you land a win and starts a gamble feature. With "Super Bet" you will turn on the super bet feature.
The Wild symbol in the Red Dragon Ruff, it can substitute for any symbol except for the Scatter. Also, the Wild symbol can form winning combos on its own.
Purple Jewel is the Scatter symbol and it can form scatter wins. If you land 3 or more of them anywhere on the reels you will trigger free spins. Once triggered you will receive 10 spins with doubled prizes. Little Dragons will burn enhanced reels more often during Free Spins.
If you turn on the Super Bet option little dragons will appear below the reels, who will burn reels into enhanced reels. For all 5 reels enhanced you need to bet 50 coins, for reels 2, 3 and 4 you need to bet 35 coins, and for reel 3 you need to bet 25 coins.
Sir William might enter Ruff’s lair after any paid spin and thus trigger Brave Sir William bonus feature. Send him a fireball to help him win big. The more treasure sir William drops the bigger your prize will be.
The Gamble feature can be activated each time you hit a win by clicking on the "Heart&Clubs" button. Here you stand to double or quadruple your winnings. If you guess the color of the card you will double the winnings, and if you guess the suit your winnings will be quadrupled. If you make a wrong guess you will lose everything and you will be taken back to the base game. You are limited to 5 correct picks. You can leave on your own after each correct guess by clicking on "Take Win".

Some players have expressed their enjoyment and likeness for this game from NextGen, A Dragon's Story. I myself have never played it before, and I've been wondering if the game can be as good as others are saying about it. An opportunity came when I recently registered at a casino having this game, and with the bonus money in hand, I decided to give A Dragon's Story a first play. Hmm, my instincts said 'don't play it', but my curiosity said 'you wouldn't know for sure until you've tried playing it', and so it was that I ended up following that curiosity voice in my head. Well, it turned out to be a big mistake!
NextGen is not one of my favourite software provider, and just like Microgaming too, NextGen games hardly ever give me any wins at all so far! In this game, the Dragon is the Wild symbol, paying 2000x the line bet for 5 of them, and substitutes for other symbols except the Scatter symbol. It is nonetheless a dumb Wild symbol for not doubling any wins with it and for not becoming stacked or expanded. The Purple Jewel is the Scatter symbol, paying 2500x the line bet for 5 of them, or 100x the total bet amount, and getting 3 or more of these Scatter symbols trigger 10 free spins with all wins doubled, but more free spins can be retriggered. Sheesh! 10 free spins with a 2x multiplier is way below the norm. This should have been 20 free spins instead. The symbols in the game are just as badly valued, paying from a low 1000x down to 100x the line bet for 5 of each kind. A low paytable.
In order to win bigger amounts, a player is recommended to activate the 'Superbet' feature, thereby increasing the number of random Wilds coming onto the reels, for more winning chances, or so it says. This Superbet feature can work nicely for some players, but it can also be disastrous for most others, as it is for me too. There are 2 stages of the feature, either choosing the 3-reels option, or going for the best 5-reels option, thereby doubling the initial bet size per spin. The feature promises more random Wilds during the free spins, but from what I had gotten during my free spins, none of those Little Dragons additional Wilds gave any decent wins at all! Most of the time, it was only 1 or 2 Wilds being thrown onto the 5-reels option that I had chosen, and that was my biggest mistake! Playing at twice the initial cost per spin, yet not getting anything worthwhile from it all.
My first ever play on this A Dragon's Story was a big disappointment! Using the Superbet's 5-reels option drained by credits twice as fast, the Little Dragons didn't provide any sufficient additional Wilds to give more and better wins, the randomly activated 'Brave Sir William Bonus' feature didn't give any good wins, only 1x and 7x my bet amount, and the Free Spins games with that blardy Superbet feature paid only 30x and 35x my bet amount, when was actually paying twice as much for each spin! My 80 EUR starting bankroll went down the drain in less than 45 minutes! What the argh!
