5 Reel Drive is a colourful 9-payline video slot running on Microgaming software platform. This car-themed game reminiscent of 1950’s America possesses both wild and scatter symbols in the form of a yellow road sign and a police car, respectively. Players are welcome to try their hand at this slot on this page for free or select any of the Microgaming casinos from the listings to play the game for real money.
Before joining the vintage road trip, players should adjust their bet, which they can do by clicking on +/-. The number of paylines played are regulated by pressing “Select Lines”. The “Spin” button initiates the game, while "Bet Max" automatically selects all 9 paylines and simultaneously prompts the reels to begin spinning at the player’s current coin value. To play the game multiple times with no interruptions, players need to click “Expert” and then “Auto Play”.
In order to reach the attractive 10,000 coin jackpot, players need to acquire 5 Flaming Wheels symbols on the active payline.

Microgaming has a lot of 9-payline games, almost all of which are oldies, released at a time when online gaming was still new, so 9-payline games would have better chances in attracting more new players. 5 Reel Drive is one of them, themed on American truck drivers, car drivers, Highways, and of course, Highway Police cars, which is taken as the Scatter symbol in this game.
The graphics are nothing to shout about, but understandable. The highest paying symbol, the Flag+Burning Tyre, has a very good win value of 10,000x the line bet for 5 of them, but all other symbols have been marked down with lower values, ranging from 1000x the line bet for the Truck Driver, down to 70x the line bet for the Coffee+Doughnut. 5 Scatters, the Police Car, pays only 50x the total bet, and the Wild symbol, the Road Sign, is a dumb Wild! It doesn't double any wins, it doesn't pay for itself, it doesn't move or expand, just like a true dumb Wild! But that's not all! 3 or more Scatters don't award any Free Spins game, because there isn't any Free Spins game! What the aargh! If you can play any game without any features in it, then you would probably like this 5 Reel Drive. No need to ask my opinion!
Playing 5 Reel Drive was not too bad in the early stages of the game, but when nothing seems to be happening for me, I simply get turned off! Oh yeah, of course, there were small insignificant wins along the way, but nothing there to make me stay!
Playing any game with just 9 paylines can work either way - good or bad! Why bad? Because you cannot expect to get big wins with so little paylines. There's only 1 high paying symbol to aim for, the Wilds are true dumb bummers, and the Scatters do nothing more than to give you a win multiplier. No Free Spins game, no Bonus Round game, no Special Feature game, all making me a very bored player within a very short time! Have I ever won anything on this game? If it's a Microgaming game, my chances of winning on it is less than 25%, after more than 15 years of track record!
