Honestly speaking, I like games that has fishes for its theme, not so much for the deep ocean kind , but more of the rearing kind, that swims in beautiful ponds or breeding places. like in this Lucky Koi game. I used to admire these fishes ever since I was a boy, at times putting my nose up against the aquarium glass to have a good insight of how it feels like being in the water, at times even imagining myself to be one of the fishes. Swimming so freely, without a care in the world, unlike in the human world. I love being a free spirit, free from anything that binds me to this materialistic world, of which I'm only beginning to enjoy now, but can never be as free as those fishes.
I like those Koi fishes. The tortoises and the dragon flies are okay too, but frogs don't excite me at all. The symbols in this game is a mixture of likes and dislikes for me, but that distracting pebbles background when spinning the reels is not to my liking at all. A moving water background with blurry plants and corals would have been perfect, but Microgaming guys think otherwise. That background spoiled my overall impressions of the game. The logo 'Lucky Koi' is the Wild symbol, 5 of which pays 40x the total bet, which is extremely low for a 25 paylines game, and is also a dumb Wild symbol too. Sheesh! No paying for itself, no doubling of wins, no expanding, no stacking, just the usual substituting, and that is very disappointing.
The Scatter symbol pays 100x the total bet for 5 of them, and getting 3 or more of these Scatters trigger a Bonus Choice, either a Free Spins game of 10 up to 30 free spins, with up to 5x multiplier, all randomly awarded, or the Koi Bonus game, whereby you pick 3 - 6 fishes to win prizes, with a chance for one extra pick. More free spins can be retriggered, but not for the Koi Bonus game, so the paytable says. The Koi fish pays 40x, the Gold Ingot pays 16x, the Silver Ingot pays 12x, the Bronze Coins pay 10x, and the rest paying from 8x to 6x, all per total bet amount for 5 of each kind. Sadly though, a very low paytable.
The low paytable should be able to provide an extended enjoyable playing time, but this wasn't exactly the case with this Lucky Koi game. At times, the game plays well, at other times, it can eat your credits quite fast with numerous low-paying and non-paying spins. Both the Free Spins game and the Koi Bonus fishing game can pay out some decent but mediocre size wins, of which the best I could get was just around the 50x total bet amount. Nothing higher than that so far. With better luck, better wins could be possible, but I ain't gonna try for it. It's an acceptable game to play, but not for big-win hunters.
