Gambling Commission Institutes Licensing Changes

The Gambling Commission has revealed that it intends to implement a new licencing system for gambling establishments.

Restructuring Current Setups

Gambling companies currently have a designated account manager under the current structure. The Gambling Commission, however, will abandon this manner of operation due to increased demand and instead create four subgroups, each of which will be responsible for processing different phases and kinds of licence.

The responsibilities of each of the four sub-groups are as follows:

  1. Operating License New Group will process applications for new operators.
  2. Change of Corporate Control Group will process applications for present operators to change their ownership and control.
  3. Personal Licence Group will handle all applications for personal licences.
  4. Operating Licence Vary Group will handle applications for adjustments to current licences.

The Commission has assured that the initial application process would not be altered in any way. However, mail-in applications will no longer be accepted.

The Commission explained this shift in licence operation in a statement: We are modifying our working processes to make the best use of our resources. Using this method, we intend to expedite the application process. Our ultimate goal is improved response time and quality of service for our customers.

In June 2022, the European Commission released new guidelines for operators on customer protection. In April, a new set of guidelines for consumers in danger of bankruptcy were published, and they are scheduled to take effect on September 12, 2022.
