Are Online Casinos Taking Over the World of Football Sponsorship?

Why Are Online Casinos Becoming Big Names in Football Sponsorship?

Entertainment is one of the most profitable industries around the globe. Every day people spend tons of money on gaming, sports and leisure. Certain fun activities are available in the real world while others such as online casinos wait for gamers and lovers of online slots on the Web. Football is the most popular offline way to have fun, holding the throne as an undisputed champion of all sports. What do you get then when you join online casinos and football? The answer is - football sponsorship - and here’s why online casinos are becoming big names in it.

Best Football Players Attract Sponsors

Football is not what it’s used to be a few decades ago. Great football players are now celebrities and magnets for incredible football sponsorship deals. Having that in mind, examples of top players profiting from their fame are no longer rare.

The latest to enter the club of the biggest sponsorship deals is Zlatan Ibrahimović, a top-quality football player from Sweden. Just recently Zlatan left Manchester United and England in order to move to Los Angeles, USA and play for the LA Galaxy.

Zlatan Ibrahimović announced his partnership with the Swedish betting brand Bethard.

This transfer would look like any other if it weren’t for one small additional detail. Or should we say 8 to 10 million small additional details? Right after joining the MLS club, Zlatan unveiled another contract. He started a partnership with the Swedish betting operator Bethard. What’s more, according to the Swedish tech site Breakit, he will earn 8 to 10 million euros from his signature. Wow!

Big Online Casinos Sponsor Major Football Clubs

Imagine yourself fighting for millions in the quiz “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”, and the last question that stands between you and the prize goes like this – “Name Five of the Largest Casino Sponsorship Deals Associated with Football Clubs”! Hmmm!

To be honest, it’s not an easy one, so let’s try to do it together. The first of the five might not be as large as others but its significance lies in the fact that it was the first football shirt sponsorship in the English Premier League history to feature a betting company. It happened in 2002 and the deal was closed between Fulham and Betfair Casino.

Online casinos keep increasing their influence in sports by signing lucrative football sponsorship deals.

The second on the list is Everton announcing club record five-year football shirt sponsorship worth 75 million pounds with the casino operator SportPesa. A well-known Austrian sports betting brand and online casino bwin comes third on the list by signing two mega deals on the same day in April 2006.

The first arrangement worth $12,250,000 per year was made with AC Milan, while the second with Manchester United brought an amazing $24.5 million per year to the Red Devils.

Finally, the list would be incomplete without Spor Toto, a Turkish state-owned betting company, which served as the Süper Lig’s title sponsor from 2010 until the end of 2017 and they’ve just been announced as the new-old sponsor of Turkish soccer’s top-tier Süper Lig. The previous contract was worth an annual $25 million.

Welcoming the 2018 World Cup in Russia

It would be literally impossible to discuss online casino sponsors and the biggest sponsorship deals in football without saying at least a few words about one of the largest sporting events worldwide – World Cup. Less than a month is left until the beginning of 2018 World Cup in Russia, so let’s check some fun facts related to this popular global phenomenon.

Held every four years, the World Cup presents an international competition where men’s national teams recognized by FIFA play against each other to win the World Cup Trophy, previously called Jules Rimet Trophy.

World Cup is a magnet for sponsors and it’s a question of time when online casinos will join the club.

According to a Forbes article from 2010, World Cup is the third most valuable sporting event brand, right after Super Bowl and the Summer Olympic Games. These three are ranked on gross revenue generated per day of competition, whereby the organizers of the 2006 World Cup in South Africa expected a marketing and sponsorship revenue to be $600 million

The later FIFA Financial Report for 2006 showed that 2006 World Cup raised €1.9 billion in marketing revenue and €700 million from sponsorship. The record was broken at the last World Cup organized in 2014 in Brazil, which generated $4.8 billion in revenue compared to $2.2 billion in expenses.

Given all mentioned, it’s no wonder why online casinos have such a great interest in signing massive football sponsorship deals.
