Taco Hell Review—Editor’s Impressions

Tonight, we’re dining in hell courtesy of the Taco Hell slot machine. Popiplay’s underworld chef serves up a banquet of adjustable reels, Wilds, Instant Prizes, and a Free Spins feature. In this Taco Hell slot review, we’ll show you how the game looks and feels, discuss the features, and test its mobile compatibility.

Taco Hell Slot Overview

One of the first things that struck us about this Popiplay title was the two blocked rows at the bottom of the grid. It begins as a classic 3x3 slot, but if you click the arrows to the side of the bottom rows, it expands to 4x4 and 5x5. In other slot reviews, we’ve noted that such expansions come with a hefty price; the stake typically doubles. In this case, your stake remains the same.

It’s all down to player preference. If you’d prefer to land those devilish symbols (including a Chef, Waitress, Guacamole, Burrito, and 10-A card ranks) on five reels and 20 slot paylines instead of three reels and 10 paylines, click those arrows.

Taco Hell RTP, Payout, and Volatility

The Taco Hell RTP stands at a respectable 96.74%, putting it comfortably above average for online slots.

The volatility on this 10-20 payline slot falls in the medium to high range, so while wins may be infrequent, the game strikes a good balance between payout size and frequency.

As for the max win, it’s surprisingly low at 4,320x. We expected more from a game with such an impactful main feature and the option for a 5x5 grid, but it’s certainly not the lowest we’ve seen.

Taco Hell Mobile

Minor adjustments to the mobile version ensure it offers a similar but more streamlined experience than the desktop one. The spin button shifts to the bottom of the reel, the reels take up most of the game screen, and the colours are sharper and more vibrant on high-resolution devices. We definitely preferred the mobile version over the desktop version.

Taco Hell Graphics and Gaming Experience

A spicy, upbeat track plays as you spin reels filled with food and smiling characters. Our only criticism is that the card rank symbols and the wrap around the Burrito are all blue, making some spins look a little monotone. The food also doesn’t look that appealing, and a different design style may have worked better. Still, the gameplay is fun, and as with all video slots, that’s what matters most.

Taco Hell Bonus Features

Pepper symbols carry monetary values, and if you land two of them, you’ll win the values shown. Other than that, the Taco Hell features all revolve around the Free Spins, with up to 20 Free Spins triggered by revealing three or more Scatters.

Taco Hell Free Spins Feature

You may notice that there’s no Wild in the base game, as this comes into play during the Taco Hell Free Spins round. It substitutes for all symbols except the Peppers, and if you land four of them, you’ll retrigger the feature and land a multiplier of x2, x3, or x10. You can retrigger the feature a maximum of three times.

The Peppers are a little different in the feature, as they only release their values when they appear on the same spin as a Wild symbol.

Taco Hell Slot Summary

Taco Hell is another excellent title from a developer that’s quickly gaining a reputation for producing fun, feature-rich slot games. We feel that the studio could have done a little more with the design, as the food symbols barely look edible and the colours are lacking vibrancy, but thanks to the expanding grid and Free Spins, we still had fun with the Taco Hell slot demo.
