From fat boy Georgie Porgie, we now go to another fat boy in Hearts & Tarts, the second game in the Rhyming Reels series. Fat boys and fat ladies seem to be very popular with Microgaming designers, for one reason or another, which I don't even want to know why either. In this game, we can see why the boy cannot be slim. He's forever munching on a tart biscuit, a tart cookie, a tart whatever. No wonder he's a tart fart. Err, I mean a tad fat.

The logo 'Hearts & Tarts' is the Wild symbol, 5 of which pays 4000x the line bet. It doubles all wins with it, and substitutes for other symbols except for the Scatter symbol. It isn't stacked in the base game but is stacked in the Free Spins game. The Crown is the Scatter symbol, 5 of which pays 200x the total bet, which is doubled the usual, and that's fairly good. Getting 3, 4 or 5 of the Scatter symbols trigger 10 free spins with all wins doubled, and more free spins can be retriggered. The paytable indicates 'win up to 2.4 million coins' in the Free Spins game, or 8,000x the total bet, but I really cannot see how this can be achieved or won in any Free Spins game that has only 10 free spins for starters, and with only a 2x multiplier. Even with many retriggers, which is a big rarity for any Microgaming game, and with just an average paytable, I just cannot work it out. Could this be a mistake from the game designers, or just a marketing hype to attract players to keep on playing? I really do not know. It just seems so impossible to achieve! As for the symbols in the game, the Fat Lady pays 1000x, the Fat Boy pays 800x, the Waitresses pay 600x, and the rest pay from 400x to 30x, all per line bet for 5 of each kind. An average paytable but more on the low side.

The first thing that I found was that the Autoplay button doesn't work at all, which was a nuisance, because I had to manually make the spins, or settle for that miserable 10 spins on auto option. Why it wasn't functioning, I had no idea. The Fat Lady symbol is stacked in both the base game and in the Free Spins game, but the Wild symbol is only stacked in the Free Spins game. Nonetheless, in my plays, the Wild symbol hardly come stacked at all, mostly just single Wild symbols on the reels, as compared to the regular stacked Fat Lady symbols. This was disappointing to me, because I would prefer the Wilds to be more frequently stacked, providing more chances for wins. The stacked Fat Lady symbols were hardly ever useful anyway.

The Free Spins games were hard to come by, but I did get 2 of them in one of my plays, but the payouts were worlds apart. One was a blardy low 4x, whilst the other one was a decent 50x my bet amount. Generally speaking, I did not enjoy playing Hearts & Tarts, and this game isn't even close to that of Georgie Porgie's game.

This was one of the very first Microgaming slots I played, so it's great to see it really hasn't aged very much at all after all this time. The graphics could look a little better, in particular some of the symbols look a little rough, so perhaps that aspect of the game would benefit from one of the "HD Makeovers" that Microgaming has been giving their older games such as Loaded and Sure Win lately, but apart from that it plays just as well as ever.

The vast majority of this games payout potential is reserved to the stacked "tarts" symbols, so you'll be hoping to get as many of those onscreen at once as possible during the base game if you want to have a profitable session. The wild symbol doubles any payline win it forms a part of, and the 30 paylines make it possible to win on a large number of lines simultaneously.

The free spins round adds a 2x multiplier and stacked wild symbols to the reels too, making a full screen of top symbols a little easier to achieve - it's just a shame that, like always, you spend so little of your time playing the game inside that elusive bonus round!

The jackpot is tantalisingly high at 2.4 million coins, which is what Microgaming slots are all about really. You'll need a full screen of wilds during the free spins in order to achieve this, which sadly I've never even got close to, but it's the possibility that keeps us playing after all.

However, if I look back at the time when it was launched until now, I can fairly say that it failed to live up to its expectation. With a top prize of 2,400,000 coins the expectations are already set high for any avid slots fan.

Rhyming Reels Hearts & Tarts basically has the same format as some other Microgaming slots, like Old King Cole, Georgie Porgie and Jack & Jill just to name a few. This slot does feature more paylines though since you can select up to 30 paylines on five reels.

The minimum bet is 0.30, but I preferred to play on a 60 cents bet size. Not sure how to describe the theme of this slot, but it's basically a slot which depicts the fine things in life food and family wise. In addition Rhyming Reels Hearts & Tarts features wild symbols (heart), stacked top paying symbols (fat woman) and scatters (crown).

I think that's how you can win the max by hitting the stacked top paying symbol on every reel. However, don't be too gullible though since it's incredible hard to make a winning combination with only 3oak, let alone 5oak!

I never witnessed so many dead spins on a slot before I started to play Rhyming Reels Hearts & Tarts. I can fairly say that my first 50 spins were all garbage paying little to nothing. The best paying stacked symbol of the fat lady would often come in just to block other combinations. Quite annoying to witness that, since it definitely raised my blood pressure lol.

What I also find disappointing about this game is that 3, 4 or 5 scatters all only trigger 10 free spins with just a 2x multiplier. On the upside the wild symbol does add a 4x multiplier to any winning combinations. I experienced the free spins once and haven't won more than 10x bet size. Overall I'm probably down around 150 euros on this game.

I'm sure this game can reward huge prize, but I never seen any related screenshots on any forum displaying this game. Either this game is very unpopular due to the somewhat boring theme or the variance is super-super-super HIGH! I at least won't play it again, since there are better slots.
